  • For anyone who knows me or has been following my RUclips channel, it's clear that I'm obsessed with cars. And have been for decades.
    That's why this is such a big deal for me to consider selling this beautiful 4.2 e type roadster rather than my XKE 3.8 coupe.
    One of the reasons is that I currently have too many projects happening at the moment....
    My Lamborghini LP640 roadster manual conversion.
    My XJC John Steed replica project based on the iconic car from the New avengers.
    A Ferrari 355 manual conversion project waiting to begin.
    And my latest purchase - an original Lotus Esprit S1 project featured in the James Bond film 'A Spy who loved me'.
    In this video I talk you through this and my other reasons to justify parting with my much loved and immaculate e type roadster.

    I think you made the right decision. The roadster is beautiful, but the S1 coupe is a stunning design and has to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made. And if you drive the roadster it will only lose value as it becomes less perfect.

    I’m a baldy , and I get your logic 👍 I also think you are right with the steed jag, you are into that project deep so far and going the extra mile to make that car 100% almost better than the original is exactly what I would want to do and it deserves it 👍👍👍

    I totally understand your emotions and I feel your pain. Sometimes, we just need to let things go. The E Coupe is a lovely car that’s still in your stable, so you’ve made the best decision possible. I hope that you got a pretty penny (well deserved) for the car and I hope she went to a great new owner who will appreciate and DRIVE her. The only regret would be if she wound up in a museum or a collector’s warehouse. Chin up old boy! Cheers from Los Angeles! 🍻

    Reason 6: you've somehow heard (via magic telepathy) that I am in love with that car and you want me to have it. Two possible hitches. One I live in Canada. Two I have no money. Number one could be overcome but two is likely a showstopper.

    • @sportscarstory
      @sportscarstory  10 дней назад +2

      Number one could definitely be overcome! Especially as it was originally a LHD car from North America. Number two is for sure a problem!

      @@sportscarstory Thanks for the reply. Help settle an argument. A member of my car club says the 4.2 was made specifically for N. America and was never sold in the UK. I was going to use your vid as proof that he was wrong. Now I learn that your car was an imported LHD.
      So, what is the story on the 4.2s? Were any originally sold in the UK?

    • @sportscarstory
      @sportscarstory  9 дней назад +1

      The 4.2 was sold everywhere- including the UK. I believe the main reason they changed to the 4.2 was to make the head more robust- it’s not just a bored out 3.8, the cylinder head pattern is different - better spaced so less chance of head gasket failure. But yes, it was a worldwide change, including the UK, tell your friend!

    I honestly think it's a smart move. I think if your having a relatively small fleet (yes 7 or 8 is alot to most people, but with the value invested you could have had 20 or 30), there's not much point having near duplicates. I hope you get good money for it considering how the E Type market is going.

    well if it makes you feel any better, I've been finding mark II's, which have this cars engine, the smaller version for under 30K over there, and he has a Damiler Double Six, Harry's Car just in daimler form for less than that,
    an exact clone actually, which is, really really funny as I've been getting that alot recently, like I even found a 6 grand rolls royce like his wedding car in california
    although the one that got me was the inspector morse car he had,
    I was actually tempted to ask you if you knew anyone who could import a 61 Imperial Maroon Mark II 3.4 to the US and get it here intact, or someone who could do the conversion from right to left and make sure it had the synchro for first
    something they didnt have until late 1965
    as that would be a trip driving on the wrong side of the road, with a manual, when you've been used to auto's all your life
    and it doesnt have a synchro for first
    but the car moved on and honestly I dont know who could service a jaguar inline 6 over here, for you guys you got that specialist, and that's where the car came from
    here in america, I dont know anyone, and would have had to do it myself, or maybe get that guy with the buick to do it
    but I atleast finally know what the hell that car was in after seeing it on PBS for the past 30 years, as imperial maroon changes in the light and never looks the same in any of the shots
    and its a shade or two off of regency red, so even the model makers of the car get it wrong
    which I know personally as I got the paragon model of it and wondered why it was so much darker
    and I half think towards the end of the shows run, they gave the car another respray and painted it that by accident
    and then during its million dollar resto they put it back right to what it was in the first place, which explains why it showed up looking so good in endevour, and I've been looking for that final scene just to see it again
    as damn did they do a nice job as a tribute to Johnathan Thaw with that one
    also I bet when Chris Harris drove it, they changed the gearing to the latter 2.4's, as somehow with just 10 extra HP
    they got the 0 to 60 down by 8 seconds to 11 for the 2.4 in 69 when it was damn near 18 originally with the very first ones
    which might explain why he wasnt very fond of it, and skipped first apparently if the episode driven to distraction is correct about that
    also it had a dynamo, not an alternator until 1969, which also explains why one of the stories I heard was that they had to push start it a few times
    and Kevin Weatley wasnt very fond of it either
    mind you I noticed it, the 61 I was looking at had an accuspark from a company in the UK on it, so that might have been taken care of
    but like I said its moved on and they sold it, but damn if I wasnt tempted to pick up the phone and say I'll take it
    even if I had to store it somewhere till I could secure transport and then get it registered here in the US
    also he does have a 65 series 1 E type for 82 thousand pounds FYI, so take that as your baseline
    also just curious how much would exporting from the UK be in general? as I have a lead on something else I'm looking at and it comes out to 18,000 pounds
    which is 22 G's, like could a car be brought over for 8?
    mind you its abit of a basket case and needs new fenders and its located in of all places, a place called Working
    and I dont know how expensive parts would be
    but its atleast all together and not a nightmare like that project car that guy gave me a lead on
    15 grand for a car literally throw about the floor with nothing painted

    • @sportscarstory

    OK, you're a baldy, but is that a reason to sell the Jaguar over the Stag? Hats have been invented, I wear a Fedora type of hat all the time, even though at 77 I still have a full head of (white) hair. I started wearing my hat in 2015 when I got my 2016 MX5/Miata, I wear it when I'm driving my '16 F-Type and '06 XJ8 VDP LWB 4.2. Get a proper hat and rock the look. Not many wear real hats anymore, most wear baseball caps, but a proper hat will shield your head and ears. It's a look, and a statement.
    My little collection won't get any larger, though I do lust after a 1965ish era Alfa Romeo GT to restore, not that I have it in me anymore to restore one.

    • @sportscarstory
      @sportscarstory  11 дней назад +1

      You’re right, the baldy excuse is a bit lame - saying that, I can’t sell the Stag, as the kids have grown up with it, & they won’t let me ! I like the idea of getting a proper hat …

      @@sportscarstory But the Jaguar... so pretty! But, it will never be as good as it is now and you have a lot of money wrapped up in it. I wish I could afford another E-Type, had one in the early '70s, a '68 Series 1.5. In 1998 I worked for a shop and did three rotisserie restorations of E-Types, two convertibles and a coupe. Alas, those days are behind me, I dream of getting a restorable Alfa GTV but reality gets in the way. But it's a pretty day here in New Hampshire, USA, and I'll drive the XJ8, a very comfortable car. I count my blessings.
