I’m definitely a “barra the world” guy, but there’s no doubting the merits of a sohc, esp a nice simple turbo one. Sound alone is worth it over a barra haha.
Well done on bringing your beloved FD back to life…looking great. I had a 1983 ZK Fairlane classic. Same engine and transmission. Those speakers in the rear headrest took a while to change over.
If I run out of baking soda I use bog dust works great and is always easy to find under a bench or cupboard in the shed. Lol Love the show keep it up.👍
Agree with you mark, Barra and LS conversions have been done to death! I’m over it. What you have there is original in its style. I say run with it. I’m not a horsepower hero either so yes, 300 kw is fkng heaps. Will definitely wake up the LTD. My mild 318 in my CM makes only 210hp but it’s responsive and drives very well, good cruiser. Fully sik bro 🤘
Hey Mark nothing like shopping for parts in your own back yard eh, the intec swap looks awesome, you can probably find an old AU gas motor for f' all and grab the rods out of it, if that hasn't already been done. Looking forward to this build. Cheers from NZ, Phil.
Sum awesome 👌 work there Mark, I love your stereo install, top notch. Can't wait to see all the woodgrain bits on it. I'm still stuck with my factory pioneer tape deck in the zj. Couldn't bring myself to cut up the dash for something aftermarket. Keep up the great work. I've shared this vid in the fairlane/ltd group, cheers
Brings back memories of my FD LTD. Interior plastics were broken all over the place, especially the part of the armrests where the power window switches were, they were smashed to bits, and this was back in 1996! Can't imagine how much more brittle they are now. Should move well with the SOHC, the hackshop boys got the fairlane moving ok, I think they are running a skid factory intake which I have seen fitted to an XE engine bay so might be an option for you if you can find one.
Agree with the Barra being done to death also though a good one especially good milage one is getting harder to find and more expensive which also goes for building them.
Hey mate it's a good Saturday when I see the upload 👍....I have found in times dealing with brittle plastics...rub in good old Vaseline obviously will be a little oily to the touch so don't do steering wheels, controls ect....let it soak in before taking out or installing. It's not full proof but definitely helps. It rejuvenates and adds a little lube to the clips for easier installation. I apologise if this is wrong to do, it's just been my personal experiences breaking plastics.
All good mate, good tip! It certainly use this method only if you never plan to paint the plastics, which I have… but, for non faded trims this is good tip!
@@TheIronEmpire it's also a good way to get rid of those annoying plastic on plastic squeaks at the clips...nothing worse resting your arms on the centre console and it makes a racket....
I saw the 4.0 intech sticker on the door and thought maybe someone had done an EFI 302W swap, but no, that’s an even better surprise. Brings back memories of our FC that was stolen in 2001. In ‘98 I put an ULP EFI 250 (with Ford EEC4 vs the earlier Bosch setup) from a ZL into a formerly carby 6 ZK. Made it go almost as good as the 351C in the FC Cartier we had (FC was stolen in 2001 sadly). Another ULP 250 swap into a manual XE S-pack woke it up too. They were a good motor in their day, but I’m glad the Aussie Ford engineers kept making inline 6s better & better over the years.
LTD will be perfect with the turbo intech. Currently doing an EA SPAC with a turbo’d intech awsell. Maybe Look into running the factory ea intake manifold on yours, as there forward facing and look quite neat. ✌🏾
I used glass-fibre for a number of years and your method seems to be a lot easier and cleaner, without the health risk. Always surprised that people are not 3 d printing interior dash parts,
Mark please video as much as possible of the LTD engine swap. Mate all the Ford inline 6es were great strong motors. When you showed that motor a barra wasn't what I was thinking. Can't wait mate.
That cowl is scary, if it’s like that on top what’s the plenum like underneath? Easily the worst rust to have to fix in an x series, and a main culprit for so many getting wrecked rather than fixed. But once fixed, and sohc turbo? Beast of a car.
Man I really liked the stereo surround...came up sweet and thanks for sharing the baking soda trick...been doing it for years...I also was impressed the surround was locked into position by the head unite surround... Thank baby jesus this isnt going to be another Barra swap... they are almost as snoozey now as an LS motor into anything...Cheers Mark
Nice job on the head unit fascia. I think you will run into an issue fitting the rear headrests and keeping the venetians. I'm a fan of the sohc 4.0 and I fitted one in my XE back in 2004 I think. You don't need to use xg parts but if you have one to raid then go for it. You will need to swap the torsion bar for sump clearance. Everything else is pretty obvious to transplant but there is a fair bit of work involved.
Thanks for the tips! Yeah, the torsion bar was one thing in mind, along with the radiator situation. Not a heap more, except using the XG as a guide for the conversion. Also, the LSD from the Ute will be handy for another project. Cheers mate
@@TheIronEmpire as the spacing of the radiator tanks is different you'll probably need to fiddle with the mounts. I just made a new base plate and tacked them onto it. The upper mounts iirc I used like two left or two right mounts or something. Mine was straight gas so I can't help with the ecu/smartlock side of things but the interwebs will have the answers.
For ~300rwk , the sohc is as good as the barra 👍 . Also , there was a dealer option ait turbo for the 250 crossy that had a factory warranty (technically) for early 80's falcon 👍
Although I'm a GM bloke I've driven 100's of thousands of k's in SOHC Ford 6's. They are a very underrated motor and I'm looking forward to seeing your finished product !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s signage board, I can’t recall what it’s called… it’s like 3-4mm plastic sandwiched between thin aluminium. A google will find it Otherwise, pop into a random signage place and ask for an off cut to assess
Great vid love the plan for the engine swap can’t wait to see more, what happened to the wood grain I was interested to see how you were going to do it
Boost grumps had a ed xr6t turbo?(cant remeber) and it made crazy good power with a stock bottom end that made 600+ rwhp and lasted even with a crazy aggressive tune, those sohc bottom ends seem to be tougher than any pre fg stock bottom end.
Cleavland or turbo ECC4 [efi] 250 cross flow . Stock form the ECC4 250 was way better than the 302 . There were many after market turbo conversions back when new . Modern Turbo and modern efi electronics all while keeping the stock appearance inlet manifold .
Fuck yeah! Single cams sound so much better than a barra. They also LOVE boost. If you need any info, give Will at spoolinboost a buzz. He had his R&D engine up at 419rwkw at 21 psi before the head bolts started lifting.
As a xflow guy I agree the SOHC suits those LTDs/Fairlanes. Stock xflow is very under powered and sound like shit. A hot 1 is cool and can be fast but generally the SOHC is pretty fail safe. Cool build man.
I know a farmer that has 3 XD 351 and a ZB 351 and a Datsun 260Z rotting in a field, had a look at them with asked how much for any one of them he said Not For Sale... ... ... 👍😭
hey mark, can we not 3D print that surround you need mate? if you a have the size of that thing you made send it to me and i'll 3D print it for you (needs to be less than 200x200). the super glue and baking soda works a treat theres an exothermic reaction between the two it gets ultra hot - watch the fumes from it though they are deadly. super looking forward to the AU intech boosted install. get an EB injected inlet manifold to replace that dude.
Awesome Mark
Mate i love that baking soda idea thats killer
And the LTD is look gangsta love it
The stereo turned out way better than I thought!!
SOHC sound Vs Barra all the way! Keen to see it
🙌🏼 it ain’t no Clevor
That stereo surround looks amazing
Awesome choice in engine mate. Going to be fun to drive in the old girl!
Looking forward to seeing the transformation.
Love me a good ol’ LTD. Love your style man, gives me the inspiration to have a go at anything
This has been a great episode, love the center stereo section mod. That engine combo should be dam sweet!
Cheers! 🙌🏼
Awesome to see something other than a barra swap happening. Agree with the sound, e series etc sound really good imo
Bloody oath!
Nice little cam, few strong bits inside and she should be a good option!
I’m definitely a “barra the world” guy, but there’s no doubting the merits of a sohc, esp a nice simple turbo one. Sound alone is worth it over a barra haha.
Perfect motor for the Limo. Should work awesome.
The amount of times you open that bonnet wow. No upper work out that week. Bringing that LTD to life is great, always wanted one myself.
Cheers! Cool model indeed
Well done on bringing your beloved FD back to life…looking great.
I had a 1983 ZK Fairlane classic. Same engine and transmission. Those speakers in the rear headrest took a while to change over.
Love your patience,well done
If I run out of baking soda I use bog dust works great and is always easy to find under a bench or cupboard in the shed. Lol
Love the show keep it up.👍
This is awesome! Love that you're not a sheep and doing it your way and using the engine you want to. Dash looks great.
Great custom stereo surround and yes the intec engine conversion sounds boss cant wait for the FD to sututututu
Agree with you mark, Barra and LS conversions have been done to death!

Good call!
Ah yeah👌👌👌 can't wait! They sound sssso FGOOD👍
Bloody oath
Spot on Mark. The best bang for buck setup is that Sohc set up you have there. It will rip. Barras are great but have become pricey.
Sum awesome 👌 work there Mark, I love your stereo install, top notch. Can't wait to see all the woodgrain bits on it. I'm still stuck with my factory pioneer tape deck in the zj. I wouldn’t have modified mine If it wasn’t already ruined either! Cheers

Great video mark, looking forward to seeing you slide the turbo sohc in the ltd!!!
She's had the look , now shell get he go !! excellent news !
can't wait to see the turbo ltd done! stereo install looked great too!
Turbo SOHC! Now you have my attention. That will be a sick combination in the LTD
Yeyeah! Love a SOHC
Agree with the Barra being done to death also though a good one especially good milage one is getting harder to find and more expensive which also goes for building them.
Awesome choice mate the sohc engines screem with a turbo that ltd will be a sled

Thats gonna be a ripper once its all completed Mark!!!
I’ve used a small Allen key held with pliers and heated up as a plastic welder before works as a good base to then add glue
Lovin your videos brother. Planning to get an old Falcon and work on it with my son before he gets his license. Learning heaps from your content 💪🏽
I used glass-fibre for a number of years and your method seems to be a lot easier and cleaner, without the health risk.
Always surprised that people are not 3 d printing interior dash parts,
Gotta be a market for it, if your going to spend all the time to design and print them.
Haha yep I feel the intro problems that’s for sure, great vid mate 🤙🏼
Tell me about it
Mark please video as much as possible of the LTD engine swap. Mate all the Ford inline 6es were great strong motors. When you showed that motor a barra wasn't what I was thinking. Can't wait mate.
Good stuff man love those ltds grew up in one but was v8 factory good ol cars back in the day and u dont see any now adays 💪👍

Absolutely Beautiful,Very,Very Well Done,Goodonya. !
Like your plans for the LTD engine swap. 👍
That’s going to be sick.
Thanks mate, I hope so!

As a kid livin in Bega NSW we had Bob Hawke come visit us at school ,he rolled into the carpark in the same car and then went to the RSL

Gonna be such a cool cruiser

One of my favourite cars on the channel. 🎉 SOHC super reliable engine.
Let’s see about that haha
Glad you know the difference between an Engine and motor.
SOHC engine's go hard
Great episode. I have loved watching your LTD come together, very nice car. How goes the Sandman ute?
Great episode, I guess you would upgrade diff to E series as well?
Great work mate keep up the awesome content
I love the turbo Sohc choice. Can't wait to see it! What was the plastic you used to base the stereo surround trim Please?
It’s signage board, I can’t recall what it’s called… it’s like 3-4mm plastic sandwiched between thin aluminium. A google will find it
Otherwise, pop into a random signage place and ask for an off cut to assess
Keen to see the swap happen something different 👌🏽👌🏽
408 stroker!!! 🤔 go on mark, you know you want to!!!
Awsome mate, Keen as for this engine swap ✌️.
Great vid love the plan for the engine swap can’t wait to see more, what happened to the wood grain I was interested to see how you were going to do it
Its definitely got an au rocker cover possibly got an au head not sure if the rocker covers are interchangeable with the e series engine
Boost grumps had a ed xr6t turbo?(cant remeber) and it made crazy good power with a stock bottom end that made 600+ rwhp and lasted even with a crazy aggressive tune, those sohc bottom ends seem to be tougher than any pre fg stock bottom end.
Was the FE Fairlane released around the same time as the WB Statesman ?
I’m suprised to see the plastics are so brittle!
Cleavland or turbo ECC4 [efi] 250 cross flow . Stock form the ECC4 250 was way better than the 302 .
There were many after market turbo conversions back when new .
Modern Turbo and modern efi electronics all while keeping the stock appearance inlet manifold .
You rippa cant wait for that AU engine swap👌
F yeah that custom dash is minta 😎👌
Thankyou for no Barra or LS swap!

Leave it black it matches the shifter surround
Another great video funny intro
I was wondering, do you still have your ZG Fairlane?
I've got a 393 in parts im thimking of selling also have a manualised fmx and a 9inch
3d printer would come in handy for making some things
The intec definitely sounds better... I actually rather like the low rpm burble noise they make.
Tuff 👍
I know a farmer that has 3 XD 351 and a ZB 351 and a Datsun 260Z rotting in a field, had a look at them with asked how much for any one of them he said Not For Sale... ... ... 👍😭
Eb inlet manifold
Let me know if you ever want to part with it . Cheers .
Whos the band in the back ground music ?
hey mark, can we not 3D print that surround you need mate? if you a have the size of that thing you made send it to me and i'll 3D print it for you (needs to be less than 200x200). the super glue and baking soda works a treat theres an exothermic reaction between the two it gets ultra hot - watch the fumes from it though they are deadly. super looking forward to the AU intech boosted install. get an EB injected inlet manifold to replace that dude.
Awesome FD! Ruined with bad number plate
Love the fairlanes and ltd's....miss my DA LTD...I'm more a Holden dude....don't like statemans ...
Interesting! 😎
Keep the good old Crossflow in it!! Just keep it a nice cruiser. Beautiful car.
Noooo keep the faithful 4.1 in the LTD! I Love E series engines but keep the original donk in the LTD!
