      @@HM2SGTDid work under a very old house, many years ago now, that had light bulb shaped/sized jars with liquid in them. I was only 19 or so, it took a few to figure out that's what they were.

      @@HM2SGT So true! You could either lob them or they were, as krsanth said, they were hanged above fireplaces or where fire could break. They were upside down and the bottleneck was sealed with some sort of metal, which melted and doused fire. At least "tried to" - they weren´t very reliable. But it was very nice idea!

      It's a nitrogen bomb or something like that. Basically you can't breath in that cloud and neither can the fire.

      @@OffGridInvestor Nope, it's a normal fire extinguishing powder, in a ball, with a firecracker in the middle, wrapped with a fuse.
      Fire lights the fuse, firecracker goes off, covering the area with powder.
      Tons of teardowns on youtube.

      The ball explodes only when temperatures on it reach 70°
      So it should work fine, no engine is that hot

    I remember seeing these at a building show. Italian salesman. Nice guy. Was surprised I was interested, but when you're in a completely wooden house that's 170 years old with 2 wood heaters and a wood stove... these things probably should be in my ceiling space.

      You should check out fire department Chronicles. Jason green screens himself into several scenes from several episodes. That show and the ones like it are highly entertaining! Great comedy for firefighters!

      It's literally an explosive device. And just like the explosive devices in your car right in front of your faces that inflate airbags and the ones that tighten your seatbelts before a crash, it's still a good thing. Because explosives are the only way we know to do some things very quickly and with very high reliability! And the prior commenter is right. If you're worried about the damage by the pyrotechnic fire extinguisher instead of the raging inferno, lmao, ok, I'm sure all of us would take some damage over an entire destroyed home!
      Sidenote: Same reason the military uses explosive bolts for anything that needs to be disconnected in the air on the outside of an aircraft, and

      No damage at all. That’s the white power in the ball that was blasted against the wall. You can hold them in your hand and it won’t damage your hand.

      @@Ariccio123 damn I looked up explosive bolts and that's actually some of the coolest shit. So missiles and. Stuff are hard fastened to the vehicles and a primary explosion separates it right as it's thrusters go off before the middle explosion which is secondary that's so badass.

    Using it as a potential alternative/supplemental to a "hallway fire extinguisher". = fine idea.
    Placing one in a kitchen or inside a car so it can arbitrarily go off whenever its sensors decide there's a problem. = massive parade of lawsuits.

    This isn’t new. 100 years ago or so they had fire extinguishers that were glass balls you’d throw

      And they were toxic as hell. So much so they were phased out super quickly. Extinguishers were also more efficient and better able to target smaller fires.
