Saw them live many times from 1964 on. My favourite band, brilliant live. Moved from heavy R 'n B to Soul,Motown, and more. Lemmy was their roadie :-)The Telecaster Ron Wood is playing used to belong to Johnny Kidd and the Pirates, and later had a 12-string Danelectro neck on it. Jeff Beck played on their B-side "Daddy Daddy". (Trivia -but hey!)
Ron Wood had the VERY FIRST fuzz box I ever saw - it was the prototype Gary Hurst Tonebender in a black wooded box... ( I had one within weeks of them appearing in shops:-)He had the first Marshall 8 x 12" "coffin" cabinet I saw. He played bar chords with his thumb curled round the neck onto the E string, and this gave both a style and a tone to his playing.
I’m certain I saw this band when me and 3 friends, aged 15, went to Weymouth for a holiday, it would have been 1965. 3 15 year old mods having our first holiday after leaving school. Great days😎
I bought a Telecaster because I idolised Ron Wood and he had one. Mine was blonde with a maple neck., 1965 but bought new from Rose Morris in 1966 - for £149..!!! I hated it! Then I got Sam Lee to fit wide frets and a humbucker next to the bridge and set it up, and I loved it.
I once saw them gig in the Pump Rooms in Bath when the gig was switched from Bath Pavilion which was flooded. VERY freaky in this classic formal Georgian room with chandeliers...great gig! They always seemed to be in front of everyone else - the very, very first band I ever heard play "In The Midnight Hour", and that is saying something.
recordguy4321 . I've been a pro recording engineer/producer/studio person for 32 years, but I have never ever had the same buzz from seeing a band as I got from seeing The Birds - and I'm including seeing Cream, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and The Who, all seen at 60's gigs holding less than 500 people.
We all used to hang out in West Drayton or Yiewsley. Pip Williams was the leader of 'The Renegades'...and he ended up as a producer. I recall he worked with Graham Bonnett. Ron was a great guitarist even back then in the very early 60's, when the Who were still the Detours, or the High Numbers.
The actual name of the song was "Cause, I need some Loving" and it was supposed to be out on reaction, but the band broke up, and the single was shelved. I love the song and wish Mr. Stigwood would finally release it, with the other songs they did as Bird's Birds.
AHA!! another gem from this short lived but much loved Mod band! has anyone got any more?? "Leavin' Here" or their cover of the Who's "Run Run Run" or just freakin ANYTHING!! Liverpool Mods!
They attempted to locate it while putting together the "Rare British Birds" CD comp in the late 90's and we unable to locate it. They did find "Granny rides" which was recorded much later.
They moved from what used to be called R 'n B on through Motown (Velvelettes "Needle in a Haystack etc) and I remember them doing Dodie West's "Going Out of My Head" and also "Here Today " from the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album. Liam from Toerag studios in London gave me a fanzine a few years ago with the best Birds article ever.
Thanks to garageman for posting this. I love this tune. Can't see it on the Deram collection or on Ron Wood's Anthology. Anyone know if it's available on CD or even vinyl? Cheers
You can find details of the movie on the top right of the page. There is a compilation CD called The Collectors Guide To Rare British Birds on Deram (564 139-2). It includes all of their four singles (A and B sides) plus rarities. Recommended.
Turned down a swap for the Tele from Alan Murphy of a black 3-pickup Les Paul custom. Had the Tele stolen in 1979 from Berwick Street Studios, uninsured of course. I do remember Berry's. My band in the 60's was named after an antique shop in the Balls Pond Road , - called Rare Amber.
This Birds clip encapsulates everything cool about the mid 60's from the lead singer's Ben Sherman to the rhythm guitar's striped jacket to all the cool hairdo's (minus Woody's mullet)and guitars! Ace!
Kim Gardner, the bassist played with Tony Ashton in 'Creation', and later with 'Ashton, gardner and Dyke'. Ally McKenzie, the vocalist was pretty good!
When Ron came to Sydney in '75 with 'The Faces' I gave him a copy of that pathetic Aus Birds version. The 'b' side was 'I can't let Maggie go' by the Honeybus!
Hey, I am desperate...I love love love this song, and I love Ron Wood. Does anybody know where I can download it, because I can't find it anywhere!! Thanks. XX
Lobby Loyde '74 = Mullet! Mullet! Mullet! Just keeping score my friend.... These kind of things keep me up at night. That and dreaming of having hair like '66 Woody!
took me quite a few 'listens' to filter out the silly dialogue from the film and actually follow the last bit of the song... and what a great song it is! Shame it seems to be gone for ever...
Fantastic! Where did this clip come from? what movie is this? Love the lead singer's voice and that great guitar sound -- Why have we not heard of the Birds before? is there any other stuff out there about them?
Is it me,or I hear a very close similitude in the guitar riff to "Purple Haze"?In particular the studio version.I wonder if Jimi took inspiration from this song,as the stinging sound and the intention of the guitar riff are the same!
didiwiz . Do you know what happened to Pete McDaniels the drummer. I've heard nothing except "rumoured to have died from heroin" which I hope isn't true... BTW It's a small world - I used to record Paul Brett who was in Elmer Gantry -so was Hud Hudson , but not sure if at the same time.
Isn't there a story in his biog where he travelled down to London in the mid 60s, turned up at the Wood household but Ron and Art(woods) were gigging so their mum offered Lemmy the couch to crash out on. Ah, the romance of RnR! Talkin of the period, dig Lemmy's fretwork on "Alright" by the Rockin' Vickers. It's smokin'.
Unlike the Byrds then recent tour of the UK which was incidentally hampered by the Birds handing them a legal notice on arrival at Heathrow for perceived loss of income from live performance.
Elmer Gantry... he also fronted a fake version of Fleetwood Mac ( I think for Mac's sometime management) for a tour or so in the early '70s until the real Fleetwoood Mac managed to stop it. BTW it's definitely McDaniels not Daniels!
The Embrooks cover "Say Those Magic Words" and which was the Birds fourth (and final) single. The Eyes are good but not as blueswailing as the Birds. Their "Tribute to the Stones" released by the Pupils (get it!) is inept out-of-tune brilliance.
Would you all stop talking about when you were in bands in the 60's etc...i'm getting jealous! I was only born in '77,why was i born so late! Would of loved to have watched all the great bands, the who, small faces, the birds would of been good, what "great" bands do my generation have to look up to? Oasis! Rather listen to Mary Hopkins!
yes this is it, ron says that a murder was being planned in another room...then there is stills from a fanzine which did an article on the birds, which shows ron wood in his underwear...
Too bad he got elbowed out in late '66 for taking the initiative and trying to organise band affairs. Btw tell him that I think the pronto skinhead gangster look they were going for shortly before he left was well cool.
Saw them live many times from 1964 on. My favourite band, brilliant live. Moved from heavy R 'n B to Soul,Motown, and more. sorry it took so long but awesome man
@@generaljj577 he’s probably dead now
Love Ronnie Wood's guitar! Cool video!

I can’t believe they pan away from the band for something trivial, getting in the way of this classic track & piece of pop history.
So many years before the Ron Wood Show on Saturday Night Live.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who dug the "suedehead" look Birds! Ditto on The Rockin' Vicker's "It's Alright" amazing track!
Alli McKenzie on vocals, Tony Munro.., etc.
They had a great little club called 'The Nest' in Yiewsley.
I just finished reading Ron Wood's autobiography and read all about this clip (and yours and claudetini's dad) so I had to look it up for myself.
recordguy4321 .

VIOLENCE WITHOUT SMASHING THE INSTRUMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Mods with long hair" as Lemmy said in his autobiography. why can't I buy this birds song on record? it's the best.
The actual name of the song was "Cause, I need some Loving" and it was supposed to be out on reaction, but the band broke up, and the single was shelved. I love the song and wish Mr. Stigwood would finally release it, with the other songs they did as Bird's Birds.
According to Wikipedia it was released in 2011?. Interesting that.
AT LAST WITH GREAT IMAGEN.THANKS
Thanks!
What amazing vocals!
UNBELIEVABLE!
thanks for the info. Just finished reading ronnie wood's book. I bet they were great live!
AHA!!
another gem from this short lived but much loved Mod band! has anyone got any more??
"Leavin' Here" or their cover of the Who's "Run Run Run" or just freakin ANYTHING!!
Liverpool Mods!
They attempted to locate it while putting together the "Rare British Birds" CD comp in the late 90's and we unable to locate it. They did find "Granny rides" which was recorded much later.
The Event recorded a cover of this song on their album on Voxx records in 1990!
Great band of 60 s of London Ronnie Wood young kkkk
They moved from what used to be called R 'n B on through Motown (Velvelettes "Needle in a Haystack etc) and I remember them doing Dodie West's "Going Out of My Head" and also "Here Today " from the Beach Boys "Pet Sounds" album. Liam from Toerag studios in London gave me a fanzine a few years ago with the best Birds article ever.
Wow! This rocks a little harder than the The Faces or The Stones (to me). I've got to look for some of these recordings if they exist.
You can find more by The Birds on this RUclips playlist: ruclips.net/video/oCd5hamfrpM/видео.html#t=38
Thanks to garageman for posting this. I love this tune. Can't see it on the Deram collection or on Ron Wood's Anthology. Anyone know if it's available on CD or even vinyl?
Cheers
You find can the soundtrack version, complete with dialogue, tucked at the end of the Birds CD compilation on Deram.
You can find details of the movie on the top right of the page. There is a compilation CD called The Collectors Guide To Rare British Birds on Deram (564 139-2). It includes all of their four singles (A and B sides) plus rarities. Recommended.

I love his Rickendbacker!!!!!!
This Birds clip encapsulates everything cool about the mid 60's from the lead singer's Ben Sherman to the rhythm guitar's striped jacket to all the cool hairdo's (minus Woody's mullet)and guitars! Ace!
I've got to see this flick now.
Cool!
coooool
Kim Gardner, the bassist played with Tony Ashton in 'Creation', and later with 'Ashton, gardner and Dyke'. Ally McKenzie, the vocalist was pretty good!
Wow, we did not have the Birds here in the 'States. We only had the Byrds. Pretty cool, bros.
Super cool
Wow Ronnie Wood!
giagnorio86 Yep...the dude had it in him from the start.._How he modified his Telecaster...very cool.
It's a "secret" track right at the end of the Deram CD and uncredited on the sleeve. Just keep the CD running on the final track and it kicks in.
Just the bits from the movie, not the entire track and sounds like it was recorded directly from a mic in front of the tv!
Robert Bloch wrote the novel Psycho, not The Birds, which was based on a novella by Daphne Du Maurier. ;)
When Ron came to Sydney in '75 with 'The Faces' I gave him a copy of that pathetic Aus Birds version. The 'b' side was 'I can't let Maggie go' by the Honeybus!
You're dad is so cool with that Rickenbacker!
Thank you for the correction. Annotation edited.
Hey, I am desperate...I love love love this song, and I love Ron Wood. Does anybody know where I can download it, because I can't find it anywhere!! Thanks. XX
Got any more Birds? Say Those Magic Words...
I can never look at this scene the same ever again because of MST3K! :-)
When I first saw the deadly bees I said that guy looks like Ron Wood
It's like a bootlegged Ron Wood
Lobby Loyde '74 = Mullet! Mullet! Mullet!
Just keeping score my friend.... These kind of things keep me up at night. That and dreaming of having hair like '66 Woody!
R.I. P. Ali McKenzie.
argh so much mod style rocking boys love it from the first sight..so where can i find the action!?...
I'm getting Scott Weiland vibes from the singer.
This is my first time hearing The Birds, and I love their sound.
Ronnie had that famous hairstyle even back then.
took me quite a few 'listens' to filter out the silly dialogue from the film and actually follow the last bit of the song... and what a great song it is! Shame it seems to be gone for ever...
Damn the Birds were heavy ! Like the Small Faces or Kinks but louder and ballsier
Brand new version of this song recorded by the relaunched Birds featuring original lead singer Ali MacKenzie available from thebritishbirds.co.uk NOW!
Fantastic! Where did this clip come from? what movie is this?
Love the lead singer's voice and that great guitar sound -- Why have we not heard of the Birds before? is there any other stuff out there about them?

Dave Cousins and Tony Hooper ring a bell? Howzabout 'The White Bear' in Hounslow?
heh! heh!
What's the title of that, the only compilation on eBay doesn't have this song.
holy Shit that is Ron Wood of the Rolling Stones in the white sweater
Is he really? My Dad's the bassist, Kim Gardner
Can't find the Decca release of These Birds are Dangerous... do you have a link?
Ron's FIRST band was 'The Renegades'..
Hahaa, I'm just reading this from his book, he told he had to wear "that awful turtle neck". I'm not sure if he mentioned wearing a wig...
Le future rolling stone
0:43-End: Crank Up To Infinity Omit the ladies.
It's hidden at the end of the CD and is uncredited on the artwork.

Crazy how Lemmy was a total fan of this cutesy lyrics driven music but released such ANGRY hardcore music afterwards with motorhead...unbelievable.
NO RECORDED ):
Their forthcoming tour of America....YEAH RIGHT.
Unlike the Byrds then recent tour of the UK which was incidentally hampered by the Birds handing them a legal notice on arrival at Heathrow for perceived loss of income from live performance.
I wonder if the other guys were jealous of Ronnie Wood going on to stardom while they got swept away in the dust bin of history.
one question : The Byrds = The Birds?
one question : The Byrds = The Bird?
My wife was logged-in on her user-name when I posted the last comment -hence it's up as saabina21...:-)
Like a low budget who or small faces
@DiemKaye Lemmy was a Mod?
Have you heard anything else by the Birds? Do youself a favour and track down the compilation on Deram.
Robert Bloch wrote Psycho not the birds
Elmer Gantry... he also fronted a fake version of Fleetwood Mac ( I think for Mac's sometime management) for a tour or so in the early '70s until the real Fleetwoood Mac managed to stop it.
BTW it's definitely McDaniels not Daniels!
@claudetini
COOL!! =D
Ronnie appeared at birth from his mother's womb with that mop of hair ;~)
The Embrooks cover "Say Those Magic Words" and which was the Birds fourth (and final) single. The Eyes are good but not as blueswailing as the Birds. Their "Tribute to the Stones" released by the Pupils (get it!) is inept out-of-tune brilliance.
Funny enough, i guess the killer bees thing really did happen after all !!
THE SKINNYS!
lol hell yea MST3K
Its Ronniw Woos Sadie gal
ronnie has had better fasion days
Who here discovered this from MST3K?
Why, Ronnie? Why?
: )
Well it's been a while since I saw that crappy movie. The Birds were easily the highlight.
Great Who emulators
Would you all stop talking about when you were in bands in the 60's etc...i'm getting jealous! I was only born in '77,why was i born so late! 私の知ってるザバーズではなさそうだ
Yeah, those pathetic duster coats he's been wearing onstage for the last twenty years are really, really hip.....
Please!
Too bad he got elbowed out in late '66 for taking the initiative and trying to organise band affairs. Btw tell him that I think the pronto skinhead gangster look they were going for shortly before he left was well cool.
