Without getting too far ahead in the video yet, I do wanna put out there that, for all its flaws, the Division 1 had by far my favorite atmosphere in a video game. Just walking through the streets and taking in the sights and sounds was such a pleasing experience. I hope a future installment could hit that same nail in the head
That is how I feel about it. Personally, division 1 and dying light 1 are tied for my #1 favorite game of all time. Only a few other games gave me that experience that I just can't forget
The whole Christmas theme in New York is simply a atmospheric A-Bomb. And of course there's snow everywhere, making it even more pleasant. It's truly something to remember.
My fav Dark Zone issue: You'd have a team of four people in riot shields, protecting another team that has 'gone rogue.' If you try to shoot at the rogues, you hit one of the shielded team, flagging YOU as rogue, and then all eight of them can kill you consequence-free. The core problem is that when companies test these games, they test them with a group that is on their best behavior.
@@fartdonkey8290 Absolutely. I really think games like The Division add PVP because they believe it's an obligation. But honestly, I really believe that the game would have been so much better without it
@@fartdonkey8290cry more. The DZ was the best part of the Division and it wasn't required to play. Imagine going to a cookout and complaining that you can't eat hot dogs because you don't like them... if it's not for you, it's not for you. What you really mean is that you didn't like a game mode that made you feel inadequate. Get over it.
@@OldManShoutsAtClouds I mean, the only thing you’re doing is proving him right. You could’ve made an argument about how PVP has checks and balances, and everyone should have a counter play to them but instead you attacked them personally. If you’re looking to garner more support for people that like PVP, you don’t do it by making more enemies.
That being said, I don’t think the PVP was bad, but when you make the game and RPG in the PVP element is an RPG than teams automatically win. Unless you’re in the top to your percentile of skill, you’re not winning a 1v4. If it was a tactical shooter, then you would have the ability to utilize cover to the fullest advantage as well as positioning. A single player in a tactical shooter could set up an ambush with their sticky bomb gadget, and take out a couple dudes before the enemy team gets a lucky shot off on them. That’s not how it is in this game. I’ll summarize it in one sentence. If you can walk behind someone and blast them in the back with both barrels from a double barrel shotgun and they turn around and look at you like you barely tickled them it’s not a fun game play loop.
Playing Division 1 with the Release Playerbase was absolutely wild. Being in the Darkzone in the middle of the Night with a Blizzard raging, with what felt like 20-25 Players in the same Zone as you at the Extraction or near you. It was so intense, i've never had a Game make me feel like Div1 did, even with all the Flaws it had.
I was in the dark zone day1 on div1 that was such a intense feeling it got me into games like that where you lose your loot on death etc but still none of them felt like dive day1
It was a unique and incredible experience and people ruined it because they made it more casual. It was heart pumping and exciting and you never knew if the group who stood against your group at extraction would attack, there were genuine stakes. Rotating endgame loot vendors would have made it work.
it was a good game, but it was not what they claimed it would be. when they release teasers at G3, they straight up lied about what the game would be compared to what it ended up being.
The atmosphere of Division 1 still impresses me to this day. Something about the ruined cars, derelict buildings, trash heaps and blankets of snow everywhere just feels so serene.
The lighting is ace, the weather is ace, sound design, all of it. The most immersive game i ever played outside of VR no shit... just next level man. A shame they didn't stick with the original and improve it over time.
That's what breaks my heart so much, you have tier 1 level design with a wonderful snow/Xmas neon lights shining off the white frost and snow, all of it gorgeous, with terrible gameplay, we will NEVER get to experience D1 level and snowy time of year again but with good survival style gameplay, what we seen in the original trailer was all lies and it is so depressing
Being able to shootout tires and windows just added to it all. Do you know why they took that out in Div2 and claimed every cars tires had deflated on their own from age? In order to improve the detail if your character ( so they could provide a broader range of Cosmetics to sell you) yet still have the game run on last gen consoles they had to free up gpu resources so they removed features like shooting tires. They're claim that all tires had rotted from age and non use doesn't hold up to reality. The time difference when the virus started and when Div2 takes place isn't long enough for that to be true
For me the DZ was just frustrating. I'm a solo player and gathering gear in the DZ solo is quite challenging. But when after multiple attempts and hours of playing I finally succeeded in getting the gear and tried to get away with it, some higher ranked player simply killed me and walked away with it. And this happened over and over again, so for me the DZ became a no-go zone. And this is not just a problem with The Division, but also with other games like it. Quite a number of higher ranked players seem to really enjoy killing off lesser ranked players. The stupid thing is that those same players are then bitching about how nobody wants to play the game anymore....... right.
@@tjroelsma As soon as i heard that some of the best items were gonna be in a pvp area, my first thought was "welp, i'm not gonna be able to have them ".
@@tjroelsmai Made friends in the dx got killed a lot lots of loot stolen even a house! But they got back on top and then when my built was better I took the battle to them and could defend myself
The Division survival mode was the absolute best. Load in with just a pistol, look to stay alive, keep warm, upgrade gear, and extract. Loved that mode so much
I wish they made it for free not paid or just make the whole division world like this. needing to survive want medicine water and that dark mooody atmosphere was something man i loved that game mode
I came to play the division 2 from seeing a collab from a gacha game that was based on the survival mode in the division, and what I see in your comment is kinda what I was expecting from the division, I still like the game, but I was disappointed from what I was expecting, the game looks and feels too cartoonishly when i expected to be running around trying to scavenge ammo, only to find the mode is not only not the main game feel but also not even available in the second game As I said, I still like it personally, but something like that, I would have liked it so much better
@@Caviaron Girls' Frontline I looked a little into the actual game after imagining the mechanics, but too little, I wanted really badly to be running around trying to scavenge ammo, find food and keep myself warm, I ended up shooting 3 mags into a guy's head for him to die because he had a name, goofy ahh I don't regret buying it, but the video echoes my feelings pretty well, though I don't mind the cover or the dark zone parts, I also ended up playing back on hard or normal despite being able to get around on challenging later because with how spongey the enemies were it just felt boring and weird to fight them
Same. I love the division 1, it will forever be my favorite game. Have over 200 days played in just the division, probably around 215-230 days played in div 1. No matter what anyone says, I will always love it
I legit bought a PS4 for this game when it came out. The first dark zone experience changed my views on trusting humanity 😂 always felt like peeing when entering haha and I was 23 when the game came out haha. I always thought if they added cutting the rope on the first version of darkzone people definitely would have needed mental help lol. Like you said one day hopefully we will get the true game so many memories so much fun and frustrations . Met a lot of people from different countries and played for hours.
Entering The division 1 dark zone for the first time was one of the most haunting and exhilarating gaming experience I’ve ever had Lol. And the dark winter theme really completed the Erie feeling. Really miss the winter in the game 😩
Division 1 was some of my best time in gaming. Me and my friends always wanted to be home and playing it, and for us, survival was even better. I looked forward to state of the game, reading about vendor changes every Thursday and watching all your videos. Div 2, even though it felt better at the start, just didn't have the charm Div 1 just nailed the atmosphere. The snow was such a great touch to the environment. I'd absolutely love a reboot of this, with better mechanics
You failed to mention the main promise of what the division was suppose to actually be. Exploring and finding physical weapons in places and not just some color sprite on the ground showing you things to pick up. It promised an integrated pvevp environment that you’d explore and interact with across the main 4 boroughs. Randomly being in the open world with other agents in safe pve setting to randomly team up or go into the dark zone and possibly betray one another if not continue to work together is all the game needed.
@@AstroAvenger imagine from the beginning, the open world was as populated as the dark zone but you have the 4 boroughs to explore, randomly meet other people to do story missions or whatever. Clean up New York, as they say. Of course it would be a pve only thing and pvp would still be excluded to the dark zone.
Wasn't originally supposed to be like 1 to 2 shot kill just like it would be in real life instead of dumping one to five magazine into an enemy and still not killing them.
The original concept videos was from the Prototyping team -- when the Dev-team took over, they took a completely different route. The videos we saw was vertical pitches, not demo material. Sadly.
@@jesselindsey2263 I’d say the time to kill in the beta was perfect but of course the power crept on the damage and how much life a player could have and it just ruined the experience of a tactical shooter.
Same. I realised I'd never be as good as, or have such optimised builds as Marco but I still enjoyed playing the game. Was also interesting to see how bad the Dark Zone was because of cheaters and build jank.
The skybox that this game has is amazing. I love it when the sun is out peaking through the tall skyscrapers and slowly moving. The blizzards, the heavy snow and how it’s hard to see while you’re in a firefight. I still play this game today, it’s great.
I played the division from launch until the division 2. And your channel and skill-up were my go-to RUclips resources. It's bittersweet to hear you talk about the division after so long. Good work and great video.
I make sure to download and play The Division every December. Completely unparalleled feelings every time. The first time I completed the mission where you have to turn on the power grid, and all the billboard lights down town turn on, it was the middle of the night, both in game and real life, and there was practically a blizzard in game. There are no words to describe how it felt seeing those lights come on in a moment of cinematic glory....and it wasn't until a full year later when I booted up the game again that I found out it wasn't even a scripted event. It can happen at any time of the day in any weather conditions.. I don't know why, but it was absolutely breathtaking.
The game has a feel like nothing else. Hackers and the other issues ruined it in the long term. Unfortunate and I really really hope they do a division 3 and knock it out of the park.
@@ohnegative9526 i think Marco is right tho it would need a hard reboot to work... you cant add 3 to the end or it would sell cus the first 2 was so flawed... Make it root in drop in like 2025 and call it "Division"... take 'The' out of it and start form there... build that world up from ground up
@Tuelz Live call it DIVISION: The Lost Wave Summary: after several waves of The Division fail to secure the city and slow the viruses progress, a viruses which has mutated several times evading all attempts to kill it, acting Secretary Of Defense Willian Walter's executes The Lost Wave; a last ditch hail Mary like attempt that uses the worst of society. It's made up of ex special forces members from all branches currently serving time for various crimes. Among these is , a former who's serving time for killing his CO, a General who was accused of but never convicted of the rape and death of niece. Not every Lost Wave agent us interested in risking their lives even to get their existing sentence dismissed so all agents are tagged with a microexplosive behind the ear that can be triggered from any where on the planet by anyone with access to the Division satellites and who has the codes with each agent having a unique code. As enters the snow Kaden and deathly cold heart of the city he quickly uncovers a planned coup attempt by several serving members of congress, the white house and the military along with Whitehall Industries ( a major arms manufacturer contracted with the US government) in order to remove the president whom they feel is not doing what is necessary to stop the virus; using nuclear warheads to thermally neutralize all living matter in the city which still has hundreds of thousands in it. It's up to
I was born and kind of raised in New York it was really weird walking down a lot of areas that I grew up in especially when you start a new game you spawn in Brooklyn and it didn't take me more than 20 minutes to find my grandmother's apartment building and then when I first walked into the dark zone I found it my childhood apartment building quarantined the atmosphere of the game was incredible and even hits different when you go to areas that hit close to home
That would have been a brilliant feeling. I on the other hand got to experience a bit of what New York was like from a game :) still it looks like an amazing place. Cheers.
Man I’m so jealous! I’d love if they did eastern washington, we have pretty much all the environments of the US plus the only city over here I feel is *actually* more their scale.
This game is still great now in 2023, I was there in march 2016 even with all the flaws the game was a lot of fun. For some reason I always return to it after a couple of years and man it is always a blast. The developers might have not done the best work but I can say as a consumer I felt and feel respected because they showed great effort to improve the game and they sure did.
I stayed with till the end, although after patch 1.4, the "Cut the Rope" update, I only went into the Dark Zone for weekly quest. The dev who thought it would be a good idea to give griefers a way to steal your loot after it was on the rope need to barred from ever working on games again. Up until that patch, casual Dark Zone explorers could still get gear extracted by bolting for the rope, after that the Dark Zone became the domain of the no-lifers and hackers, which is a shame and probably contributed to the acceleration of the game's demise.
@@thepandasdoitbetter I sure as hell don't care anymore. It still needs to be mentioned how that one mechanic ensured that players who are new to the DZ would have a much harder time catching up. Prior to that update, once your gear was on the rope, it was in the clear. Somehow, it feels like the devs didn't want that to happen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have found myself at times thinking back to this game. I have so much nostalgia for it and I'm not sure why. It felt atmospheric. The feeling of crawling through New York, during a pandemic, with the city in ruins in the middle of winter was so creepy.
I haven't played D1, but I actually really liked the cover mechanics in D2. Not to actually stay in cover, but use it for movement since the NPCs accuracy is greatly reduced when you're in cover or use the "move to cover" mechanic. The AI was also really good.
The AI is a dogshit. Cheaty, having aimbot, mainly the hyena dude with shirt having a gold armor and landing all bullets on me in full auto holding smg sideways up to 100 meters. Black tusk spawning drones. Cover system broken, trained agent cant crouch or go prone to break line of sight, yet true sons can go prone.
I miss this game. I logged in a couple days ago and walked around the city, changed clothes and imagine myself in such a world… walked in the dark zone and it was sooooo quite. I guess the sickness got to everyone.
After the E3 2013 trailer, I found your channel, and watched EVERY video you uploaded up until The Division finally dropped. The hype around the game, and your deep dives into any bit of information we could get, was such a special era! I wish the game would’ve been what they said it was gonna be. 🥺
Same here, I remember being glued to the screen on all of his speculation videos, my hype was on 11 and when the game went into BETA I was heartbroken. Awful, I hate Ubisoft, the game could have been a masterpiece.
The Division could've easily been one of the best survival games of all time had it been taken in that direction. A gritty tactical survival game set after a pandemic in New York (which is where The Division takes place) during the wintertime. Managing resources against the elements while just barely scavenging enough to kill the next goon and take his stuff, MAN what we could've had.
I would still being playing that game if thats the game they made. But Ubisoft is veryyyyyy greedy and out of touch. They truly treat fans like idiots.
I actually don‘t think it would have been a good survival game, at least not in the Multiplayer setting. Granted, urban survival shooters have shown just how good they can be, however I think there were already enough games in that niche on the market and even came out afterwards. The story would have totally taken a backseat in that genre.
@@Flarilein in PvP? Yeah, probably wouldn't have been super fun. But I was really hoping for a hardcore Single Player/Co-Op campaign that was more of a tactical shooter than a bunch of disjointed, glorified fetch-quests filled with stupid bullet sponge enemies. I mean yeah eventually I got to the point where I can breeze through with my OP Striker build and wipe the floor when lowering my World Level...but that's just not fun either. Heck, they didn't even make an option to restart the campaign. Even a New Game+ would have been cool. But nope. Don't get me wrong, I like the game we got just fine. The graphics still hold up very well to this day, and the atmosphere is the best I've played in a game yet, with the possible exception of The Witcher 3 (sans the Rubbery Trees) but even then, the game could have been so much *better* than it turned out. As it is, if I was able to reboot The Division, I'd go the Tactical Shooter route, with Single Player and Co-op as the main gameplay options. Zero Multiplayer/PvP - even in the Dark Zone. For Multiplayer options (for those who want it) there would be a Matchmaking function in the Base of Operations, similar to how it is in TD1 right now. The game would not have any enemy levels. Enemy difficulty would be scaled via Weaponry, "Fitness" levels, etc. i.e. Gangbangers vs Hunters - Gangbangers being more like malnourished escaped prisoners, and Hunters being the Pinnacle of Special Operations Soldiers and Mercenaries. Fast, Violent, Stealthy just...Lethal in every way. As the motto goes "Speed, Surprise, and Violence of Action." There would also be survival aspects to consider. Nothing massively complex on the granular level, but things like a bandage system, hydration, etc. Basics of survival. Not everything has to be a sprint from combat encounter to combat encounter. Some mechanics from the Survival mode could even be implemented into the campaign. Perhaps as narrative events, or even just randomly occuring. Freezing/Clothing, Wind/Blinding Snow, etc could all pose challenges to navigating the map properly. Whether negatively impacting your holographic city map - making it completely unreadable - or screwing up Isaacs GPS function. Could also mask sounds, build up impassable snowdrifts, collapse compromised roofing, etc. Like I've said this whole time - MAKE THE ENVIRONMENT IT'S OWN CHARACTER. I could also potentially see some sort of armor system being used for bosses and PvP modes. But it'd definitely take a form similar to the armor system in (CoD) Warzone. Plates with fairly fast breakage, and great auditory feedback when hitting, or getting hit. You'd want such a system to protect enough to be useful, but not so much that it's boring/irritating to play against. Such a system would be implemented by default on forces like the JTF as well (I'd also make them much less dorky and boy-scoutish) and of course The Last Man Battalion. You would definitely have to be more accurate (facial shots would still be instant kills for example) but the armor wouldn't just defeat all thermal offensive options either. I mean it always bugged the crap out of me that things like the fire turret and thermal grenades were so anemic and useless without the "proper build." I mean there's definitely a way to tune enemy encounters properly without turning to stupidly large health and armor bars. That's just straight-up LAZY. Just look at Ghost Recon: Wildlands/Breakpoint... (BP to a somewhat lesser extent, but still.)
yet at the same time people like him piss me off the most. Justifying your own selfish, tiny dick reasons why you cheat because the company is shit is not a protest. Its shitting all over everyone else and saying its your parents fault. I swear people like that need to be held down and readily kicked in the ballsack.
I wish I could go back to when the Division 1 was still active. Miss grinding for gear in the DZ, incursions, playing lobbies with full lobbies, playing skirmish and last stand. It was all so amazing. Didn’t start of the best but I still loved every update the game received.
Division 1 still one of my favorite game to this day. from the beta to 16 man missions to running 5 min rogues across the DZ had my ups and downs like crazy but its never failed to keep me playing
Fr Div1 DZ Had me in a chokehold, Grinded that game from launch for 3 years and had so many crazy good builds😂 Used to go solo manhunt T5 then run everyone around the DZ on a wild goose chase, Game chat with some people have made me laugh the hardest I have in my life

@@akllls617First he was a division player until Ubisoft made 2 which basically killed the franchise. Then we become a Destiny player till bungie kept messing up now he just does whatever he feels like
Grew up with Div 1 and learned to love it's RPG design because it was one of the few games I had, and then came to enjoy Div 2 a couple years after it's launch. One thing they definitely did right was the atmosphere in Div 1, and especially the Cleaner faction to compliment the bleak winter. The contrast of feint embers sparking in the cold streets of New York was something to behold for my young eyes, and I was hooked on that strange nostalgic feeling; seeing the flames shed their light through the fog of winter, it was reminiscent of those hazy memories of when you'd sit by the fireplace on Christmas Eve wondering what hid behind the strange patterns of the presents marked with your name. If it were a tactical shooter, I have a feeling that the game would be a lot more claustrophobic, and the saturation would be more colorless than the current winter we have for Div 1. More realism would have to invade the game in order to properly define it as a tactical shooter; there wouldn't be any fun ISAC orange division tech effects, gear sets would obviously be removed or at least replaced with something more practical like classes similar to specializations in Div 2, and skills would be limited to extremely tactical uses. My favorite ballistic shield wouldn't exist, and many of the stylized skills like the hive/support station wouldn't even be considered; the balancing for those skills in a tactical shooter would either completely cheese the game or get nerfed into utter uselessness. That's the last thing I would want to see, though it would've been fun if someone could've made a game that could effectively incorporate RPG and realistic elements. There's really nothing like the Division franchise, though. There hasn't been another game to emulate the modern apocalyptic setting of the series. Every other RPG I've seen is just another derivative of common fantasies and science fiction that can't even take themselves seriously. All of the "humor" they incorporate is the equivalent of a mediocre dad joke you'd tell to your deceased father's ashes after 30 years of being single. At least the first Division had the guts to take itself seriously even with the absurd premise, however, that theme seems to have dropped in the second installment whereas every single faction has amateur voice actors and painfully obnoxious voice lines trying to make you laugh with needless swearing after every other word. And then don't even get me started of some of the bullshit the devs made. I mean, who the hell gave the green light for an enemy archetype that says _"Wanna see what I can do?"_ before creaming on you with a fucking foam launcher?
I absolutely love both Div 1 and Div 2. Im particular to the amazing atmosphere and story detail, and grit and desolation of Div 1. I loved the improvements in gameplay feel of Div 2. I feel the story suffered greatly compared to the originals depth. Div 2s story seemed more lke an afterthought compared to the gameplay improvements. I enjoy Division every single winter just as I watch Die Hard and Lethal Weapon every Christmas. I still play Div2 regularly with my guys. It scratches that "shooter style mmo lite" feel perfectly.
Before watching the full video, i must say. Even tho Division 1 and 2 had their flaws, both titles catched me for several thousands of hours... that must mean something.
@Lunamaria yes they showed off some serious graphic fidelity especially for the time of Div1. I remember when I first started playing it my father was visiting and he asked me what movie I was watching that allowed me to make choices for the character. He thought it was real. That said neither Div games use Unreal. They're made using Ubisofts proprietary engine called Snowdrop
Yeah, I was one of the players that expected The Division to be a narrative singleplayer third person shooter game with optional multiplayer. Very disapointed when it released.
It was a new fresh take, it was a world that felt to scale with the real world, the environment and ambience with the snow, the dark zone was much better, the subway tunnels. I think The Division 2 improves on the variation of builds and the ease of making builds; but the environment/ambience is not as good in Division 2 compared to 1. The Div 2 DZ is also a shadow of its Div 1 counterpart. Also when I say the DZ I mean the early days of the DZ where you didn't have to toggle to go rogue and stuff and the proximity chat was golden :)
I remember watching you during the first few Division videos man. That initial gameplay trailer had us all astronomically hyped. That video represented what next gen was really going to be, and I was so ready to get my hands on it. Wether we received what was shown or not, that was an exciting time. I’m happy I got to go on that journey with you and everyone in the gaming community. It’s great to see you continue to create man! Here’s to more journeys!
The initial PvE experience, getting To the endgame, in both games, were some of the best video game experiences I've ever had. Div 1 dark zone was also fun.
As a fan of both games, Marco will be forever my fav Division content creator. I joined wayback when for builds and info on TD1, and stayed for the quality and in-depth videos. Thank you for your work, seriously. It is very much appreciated.
Yeah I remember those days... Widdz and all the console RUclipsrs lole Tuxbird. Was a special time. I literally made my channel because of them and even tho this channel didn't take off I started a second one (my main one) last year and now at 280k subs. I literally thank The Divsion for even making me interested in becoming a RUclipsr all those years back. If a Division 3 was to launch in 100% making animations for it even if they dnt get views like my normal animations. This series was my favorite gaming series next to Halo
I still go back and play Survival on Division 1 regularly. But I never did realize why it felt so weird the first time I played this game until Marco described it perfectly. I too expected a tactical shooter and got an RPG. I wish they'd reboot Div 1, call it a prequal with the First Wave as everyone starts to go rogue or get killed off, easy story. Recycle NYC map and make it bigger. I'd give it another chance.
Can you still play survival? I thought you had to find a game with 3 other players or you couldn’t even start. If you can just join and play alone then I’ll def re download and play. Survival was the best game mode imo
@@Morbidoner On PC you can get a game pretty easily if you're on during the day/evening. Other times it will just search for others players forever lol. I think if you chose PVE then it will start a solo game after not finding any other players which is still fun.
I love the Division story/concept. Great overview I really agree. Listening to the players would have been good. Making the game about the promise of the concept would be great ... Maybe a single player experience delivers on the concept better? Or focus more on how a team using different skills could work during play?
I'm so glad you decided to finally put this series to rest. It feels like the close of a saga that should've ended long ago. I found your channel from The Division, as I'm sure many people did, so it just feels right that it was you that made this video. Sincerely, thank you, Marco.
I know I’m late but to be honest with you man I’d kill to see Marco in the DZ’s on Div 2 nowadays because he has just been naturally good at the game and since it’s been a while since he’s played a lot has changed.
This game was so incredible and so broken at the same time, some true memories and have yet to find a game to replace the feeling of the original dark zone
If this game wasn't an online RPG, it would be FULLY dead by now. But, til this day, people are still playing 'The Division 1,' so I'm not upset with Massive about the direction they. I just wished they fully expanded the survival mode. They were fully on to something with that mode. Survival aside though, I still love 'The Division.' I love the game.
Omg Marco is back! I watched all your div 1 content back in the day, i'm one of these player who loved the game as it was, loved the environment, but after watching your video, realised that yeah, cover is out of date. This universe has SO MUCH POTENTIAL, they just have to do it right. Thanks for this video, great piece of work, also love that you are bringing solutions and not only talking about what's bad and whining about it as most content creators and players are doing.
I didn’t play DIV1 but I did out about 30 / 40 hours into DIV2. I think no matter what, at the time you have to give the game props for the quality of the atmosphere. Every area no matter how big or small, was FULL of detail and objects moving or stationary. I think it was beautiful. The only problem I had with DIV2 was the dark zone. I played about 3 hours and never went back becuz the skill gap was sooooo high that it would just be pointless
It’s not really skill it’s years worth of min maxed gear. Top Division players aren’t twitch shooters w/ godlike aim like COD and Fortnite players they’re number crunchers or more likely following the build guide of a number cruncher on w/e the meta is. No amount of skill is going to help you when you’re doing 300,000 dps and the other guy is doing 15 million (and yes that’s possible by crit stacking)
Its also the season 10 manhunt xp glitch maxing out cheaters' expertise level enhancements thatvarent having their accounts permabanned. Being monitored and given a second chance does nothing for their manipulated gear theyre trolling with in DZs now that exotics can drop there.
About to watch the vid, but just wanted to say that I'm so glad that you're uploading more often now. Your videos are absolutely amazing, so well done and while being extremely professional, don't come across as being pretentious or missing a sense of humor. Aka, a perfect balance, really. Literally just finished your Far Cry vid yesterday and loved every second of it, felt all really ''smoothened''. 🤣 And as a fellow dutch man, ik ga nu heerlijk genieten van deze vid!
It not being another shooter is what me and my guys liked. Once they started listening to all the PVP players whining about the electronic builds... it went downhill. Once the 1st nerf hit, they just couldn't stop. Then it just turned into another shooter for us.
A good friend and I retold some of our old memories from the DZ and from all of our PvE escapades. We both agreed that was the peak of both of our times playing games. Good to see you're still around making videos. Wish you well Marco.
The Div 1 and 2 are fucking legendary. Still are to this day. The Division 2 finally got a team together to apply multiple fixes and push more content in the future. Season 3 just started!!! L F G!!!!
I loved the 1st division. I loved the background story you could learn about, but wasn’t as fleshed out as it could’ve been. Still a great atmosphere. The 2nd division didn’t grasp me like the 1st.
who remembers survival? i felt that was a big piece of what I initally saw from the vision for the first game... if they built the game around that mode... wow
Huge missed opportunity by Ubisoft right there. They also released it before battle royale really blew up. They could've cornered the market right then and there.
Absolutely. I think if they iterated on Survival and released it as a free standalone with cosmetics etc they could have gone toe to toe with Fortnite etc and carved out a different niche of people who were not drawn aesthetically to the latter, or to the building side of things. Huge missed opportunity. DLC always segments the player base.
they could have had the game run on node servers instead, like Valheim e.g., and thus some servers or instances would have e.g. survival mode enabled. short thinking. hopefully something inspires them to innovate before their next game.
Division 1 was some of the most fun I ever had on any game. I put so many hours into it and everything you said here rings true and I remember everything you mentioned.
Recently started playing this game again hunting for some more classified builds. I realised how much i loved yet hated this game, looking around areas like dz 8&9 are horrifyingly beautiful even just the open world. No other game hit close to finally finishing a build or getting that perfectly rolled House to drop. Yet it was always hard to ignore the promises made always felt like it was just lacking something. So much potential.
I actually am currently looking for a proper Tactical Looter Shooter (TLS) game to play, and upon seeing Div 2's sale on Steam came across this video. Not only have you enlightened me much about Div 2's current-state-of-things with this in-depth review, you've actually given me insight into what exactly I'd need to look for in my search for a good TLS game in the future. Cheers for that!
D2 is actually getting support now and new story content coming this year. This video is a bit short sided. And right now I'm playing Heartland and even though i'm under NDA, i will say it is good and has great potential.
@@averagegamerjoe8171 whoa you are? If you're part of the test team do take note of that head glitch thingy yoo. Aaaaa I might just give D2 a try on the next Steam sale then.
The amount of fun and time I spent on this game are immeasurable. Even with all of its flaws and though I mainly played this game on my lonesome as the game aged, this is a top 10 game for me personally.
Man, this takes me back to 2016 when I was given this game for my birthday shortly after launch having never heard of the game before and falling in love with it. In fact, it's also the whole reason I've ever found this channel. Really is a shame the games weren't truly given what they should have been. PS - Arguably my best memories of the game is the survival DLC from the first game, that just CAN NOT be topped. I just really wish we'd eventually see this game series get back on its feet.
Survival was my bread and butter for so long. It made the game for me really. Underground was a nice system too especially when you get super beefed up and can solo them. But Survival is the one thing I would take from TD1 into TD2. It was so intense managing to get good stuff and having to face the Hunters.
@@tehf00n yeah, like I remember in so many places in videos regarding the game (mainly trailers) people still were talking about how they wanted survival back. Not gonna lie I almost wish they made a standalone game based around the survival mode type thing. Funnily enough it would fit the bill for recent trends given it’s technically a mini self contained extraction shooter of a kind
@@justarandompersoniguess Yeah its kind of like what Warzone 2.0 did. Go in, kill npcs, loot, get out. They obviously knew the gameplay flow was a good one. All we need is a solid setting and it would work in any game.
The Division was and still is ahead of its time. Opening up the door for extraction shooters coming after it. If The Division had the content train that Destiny had/has this game would be held at a higher regard.
I still love this game, and I still have it installed and play it from time to time. I was able to enjoy Marco's content back when the game was active and I was still learning the ropes and it further enhanced the experience, thanks a lot, it's great to see you talking about it again, Marco.
What's also so impressive to me was playing after the real life pandemic. The amount of things they predicted would happen and was just like real life was uncanny.
I just played The Division 1 and I was just thinking about this, the amount of bodies in the infected zone reminded me of those videos that came from India. After so many games about a some sort of pandemic I was just wondering if they manifested covid lol
You perfectly described the odd feelings i was having while playing Div 2, i just couldn't get behind it like i did Div 1, and it just felt wrong, slowing it down and forcing cover really did just feel terrible. I remember going into Div 1 dark zone really early on and having a ton of fun figuring out ways to complete zones solo. and Div 2 just did not let you do that, enemies came from every angle and gave you 0 time to use abilities or time to recover.
Man, I laughed SO HARD at the hacker ''report Ubissoft, not me. I'm a good man'' LMFAO!!! I came to watch this video (again) because playing The Division 2 feels so empty that I wanted to come back to the first game, but then again is the ''winter'' of the same game. What a shame. This game could've been *Massive*.
Awesome video! And, Marco, you'll always be one of the GOATS of TD1 I'm a day one player of TD1, and still playing to this day. It totally captured me through the ups and massive downs. Still doing 4 or 5 hours of Survival a week too Got back into TD2 recently after dropping it like a hot rock, but doesn't capture the feel of TD1
I love and cherish my time with the Division. I always look back on it fondly. Though, I always felt like the survival mode was what the game should've felt like all along. It absolutely made the game shine for me. I would spend hours seeing how long I could survive. Hopefully if they take another go at it they can learn from their mistakes.
Its not a question of mistakes. A div2 dev Saud tge reason the Survival 2 in Div 2 was never going to be a thing is because they don't do repeats. This is why HL has lingered in development far longer than planned. They're trying to make something that isn't a proper sequel to Survival but something they can claim to their Ubisoft bosses is. Ubisoft wants a battle royal game set in the Division like Survival to make money via cosmetics and MTX but the devs are determined to not revisit Survival because they don't do repeats. Each time after test play feedback they've had to revise HL and make it more Survival like. From what I've heard it sounds like they're going to be forced to provide a Survival like mode I'm HL but will downplay it as being something optional and not the main focus of HL.
Division is what got me back into gaming! I loved the whole game, flaws and all. However, Division 2 was a massive step back and catered to one side of the player base, pve. I would love to see an overall and reboot of the original game but obviously built better. Great video, Marco. Thank you.
@@noneoftheabove5816 the game as a whole was centered around pve. That’s my opinion, that’s how it played to me. The dark zone is a huge joke and a massive step in the wrong direction from the dark zone in division 1.

Yeah the trailer and prerelease footage were very deceiving. All my friends dropped it because RPG's are a dime a dozen at this point. They all wanted a tactical/looter shooter with the style of The Division.
Wish i could give this video 2 thumbs up for the amount of work you did on this video. I LOVED everything about it and the informational way you presented your opinions and theories. Seriously well done! Thank you so much for making this!!
I have roughly 600 hours played in both games, being The Division 1&2+DLCs. I know the lore from memory, I could basically write it down. I know most build variations from each patch, and I've done my share of Dark Zone grief. I have every achievement, and I have completed everything there is to complete in both of them. I was a top dog in the Dark Zone, and I can tell you from first perspective: The pvp and it's rewards really failed the main audience. Even with a full kill team I still had a mediocre experience at best. It simply wasn't endorphin high in any way, and it made single players experience a hell that should have been experienced like something fun. I love the games to this day. But as OT in the video states, it's not what it could have been. And it breaks my heart that there is no '3' in the works. Because even if it's not a game they promised, I would do anything to get another game that the former 2. Hell, I even settle for more DLC to the second installment. That's how much I love this franchise, even though I know I was promised a much more fleshed out experience.
You were a huge help back in 2016-2018 during a really dark time for me. I remember all of your help videos/ kill count videos. Thanks for making those years great
Very well explained and, for my point of view, accurate. I would Love to see a reboot of Division 1, with all the learned failures or success addressed and included.
Man I absolutely loved this game, I was hyped more than i ever had been for the division 1 and to this day the feel of it will always have a place in my heart, I’ll forever wish that it was 1 big open huge ongoing game with a massive community, what could have been :(
Amazing video, and I appreciated everything you had to say. The division 1 and your videos meant so much to me for a few years, I'll always cherish that broken game as one of my favorites. I hope one day this franchise will realize its true potential, I know so many people are still looking forward to it.
Amazing video. I really breaks down the issues. It makes me feel better being put into words. The game direction was just a miss, and it honestly just broke everyones heart.
To this day, the Division is still one of the most atmospheric and detailed open world games that I have ever played. The gameplay left a lot to be desired but the world was fantastic and almost made up for it. The sequel left a lot to be desired on that front because Washington DC wasn't nearly as enjoyable to explore as NYC was in the first game.
Your comments on cover were extremely bias to how YOU want to play. Cover in PvE was highly useful. Changing that style is making a new game which might as well not be called division
The div 1 will always be one of my fondest memory in gaming. The introduction of Dark Zone paved the way for future battle royale games and the adrenaline rush you get when going rogue facing the whole server cannot be compare with anything else. Division 1 has so much potential really sad to see it go
@@dl30wpb Good takes! Grew up with all 3 I feel your words big time! I would say H1Z1 definitely paved the wave especially with rhythm, DayZ tho not so much in the battle royale genre but for games like Tarkov, 100% FOR SURE!
It's impossible to create whatever vision people had in their heads what the game was gonna be like, because everyone had different ideas and most don't even know what the hell they want, you can't make the initial sales a benchmark because it was "contaminated" with people of different genres who wouldn't buy the game if they knew what it was. You can't make everyone happy so it's stupid to expect them to do that with some sort of a "real division we never got".
I remember the day when Marco said that he will no longer play or creating content for Division 2, it was the saddest day in my life. Back in the day my only source for division info was Marco. So I would like to thank you for it now. Maybe one day it will come back with Division 3.
Division 1's atmosphere is unmatched. There is nothing like it
It makes me like winter even more.
Damn right. I am glad other agree. The constant winter snow something about it... makes it more chilling. Lawl.

@spps1222 man theres still not a survival mode/battle royale that even comes close to how exciting div 1 survival mode was for me
Without getting too far ahead in the video yet, I do wanna put out there that, for all its flaws, the Division 1 had by far my favorite atmosphere in a video game. Just walking through the streets and taking in the sights and sounds was such a pleasing experience. I hope a future installment could hit that same nail in the head
Absolutely, probably the best atmosphere of any game I've played
That is how I feel about it. Personally, division 1 and dying light 1 are tied for my #1 favorite game of all time. Only a few other games gave me that experience that I just can't forget
The whole Christmas theme in New York is simply a atmospheric A-Bomb. And of course there's snow everywhere, making it even more pleasant.
It's truly something to remember.
Yes! Div1 and Witcher3. I can't think of anyone else that comes close.
@@costantin75 tell me you never played Skyrim without telling me you never played Skyrim
The problem is pvp. Every company out there thinks EVERYONE enjoys pvp
@@fartdonkey8290 Absolutely. I really think games like The Division add PVP because they believe it's an obligation. But honestly, I really believe that the game would have been so much better without it

Yeah there is so much untapped potential in the series but balance, bugs and exploits…
Yeah tdv1 was way better than tdv2 the first one felt harder the second was too easy
The winter really sets the mood.
Maybe I just like winter clothing
The lighting is ace, the weather is ace, sound design, all of it. The most immersive game i ever played outside of VR no shit... just next level man. A shame they didn't stick with the original and improve it over time.
That's what breaks my heart so much, you have tier 1 level design with a wonderful snow/Xmas neon lights shining off the white frost and snow, all of it gorgeous, with terrible gameplay, we will NEVER get to experience D1 level and snowy time of year again but with good survival style gameplay, what we seen in the original trailer was all lies and it is so depressing
@@EQOAnostalgia This could’ve saved the franchise ngl
Being able to shootout tires and windows just added to it all. Do you know why they took that out in Div2 and claimed every cars tires had deflated on their own from age? In order to improve the detail if your character ( so they could provide a broader range of Cosmetics to sell you) yet still have the game run on last gen consoles they had to free up gpu resources so they removed features like shooting tires. They're claim that all tires had rotted from age and non use doesn't hold up to reality. The time difference when the virus started and when Div2 takes place isn't long enough for that to be true
The Div 1 gave some of the most incredible heart pounding moments I’ve ever had playing a game! The dz will never be forgotten
I still miss the survival mode. I think you miss something when you leave winter behind
The stupid thing is that those same players are then bitching about how nobody wants to play the game anymore....... right.

Div 2, even though it felt better at the start, just didn't have the charm
Div 1 just nailed the atmosphere.
"to work together" lots o years later and this still hurts, they never gave us any reason to work together
@@AstroAvenger imagine from the beginning, the open world was as populated as the dark zone but you have the 4 boroughs to explore, randomly meet other people to do story missions or whatever.

That was the dream I held onto for years waiting for the release my heart sank when I realized what it was we actually got
As the motto goes "Speed, Surprise, and Violence of Action."
There would also be survival aspects to consider.
I mean it always bugged the crap out of me that things like the fire turret and thermal grenades were so anemic and useless without the "proper build."
I mean there's definitely a way to tune enemy encounters properly without turning to stupidly large health and armor bars. That's just straight-up LAZY.
Just look at Ghost Recon: Wildlands/Breakpoint...
(BP to a somewhat lesser extent, but still.)
Basically tarkov x the division would be peak.

Fucking peak comedy 😂 so glad I was able to witness that

I mean, who the hell gave the green light for an enemy archetype that says _"Wanna see what I can do?"_ before creaming on you with a fucking foam launcher?
didn't read much, like for the shear effort and length tho
@@iperformm5793 no need to comment that lol
I absolutely love both Div 1 and Div 2. Im particular to the amazing atmosphere and story detail, and grit and desolation of Div 1. I loved the improvements in gameplay feel of Div 2. I feel the story suffered greatly compared to the originals depth. Div 2s story seemed more lke an afterthought compared to the gameplay improvements. I enjoy Division every single winter just as I watch Die Hard and Lethal Weapon every Christmas. I still play Div2 regularly with my guys. It scratches that "shooter style mmo lite" feel perfectly.
I just want to go back to winter survival, I don't want the summer
I still think the level 1 to 30 experience in The Division is one of my favorite gaming experiences.
Before watching the full video, i must say. Even tho Division 1 and 2 had their flaws, both titles catched me for several thousands of hours... that must mean something.
2 was dog water
The Division will always have a place in my heart. The fluidity of movement and groundedness of it is unparalleled.
The online mode was so much ducking fun. It was a looter-extract-shooter before the were popping.
Like an early tarkov or I guess Vigor.
The Division 1 and 2 really showed off Unreal technology, in a way others do not.
@@NeverForget1776 shooting through the snowy car windows for the first time 😳😤
Yeah, I was one of the players that expected The Division to be a narrative singleplayer third person shooter game with optional multiplayer. Very disapointed when it released.
There was just something about the original Division it just hit so different, It's also where I first found your channel.
Very wholesome comment. I love the energy coming from it. Thank you
The initial PvE experience, getting To the endgame, in both games, were some of the best video game experiences I've ever had.
You sound like one wholl remain in el pantano and thats nothing a man could want.
I'm so glad you decided to finally put this series to rest. It feels like the close of a saga that should've ended long ago. I found your channel from The Division, as I'm sure many people did, so it just feels right that it was you that made this video.
Sincerely, thank you, Marco.
Brilliantly said and right on point. Cheers.
I know I’m late but to be honest with you man I’d kill to see Marco in the DZ’s on Div 2 nowadays because he has just been naturally good at the game and since it’s been a while since he’s played a lot has changed.
I can remember playing this game in the winter and watching your videos. Good times. Can't believe that was 7 years ago.
Being a "bullet sponge" shouldn't be considered an rpg mechanic. That's just a sign of bad development.
This game was so incredible and so broken at the same time, some true memories and have yet to find a game to replace the feeling of the original dark zone
That intial reveal trailer still gives me goosebumps to think about. Praying someday we get that game 😢
Ditto.
Glad to see you back in creating Div related content, it means a lot to me
Even in a negative way TBH
About to watch the vid, but just wanted to say that I'm so glad that you're uploading more often now. Your videos are absolutely amazing, so well done and while being extremely professional, don't come across as being pretentious or missing a sense of humor. Aka, a perfect balance, really. Literally just finished your Far Cry vid yesterday and loved every second of it, felt all really ''smoothened''. 🤣 And as a fellow dutch man, ik ga nu heerlijk genieten van deze vid!
You know this man is passionate about the division. The way the community snubbed you when division 2 came out was ridiculous.
Man, the Division had SO MUCH potential
The Div 1 and 2 are fucking legendary. Still are to this day.
The Division 2 finally got a team together to apply multiple fixes and push more content in the future.

Survival was the best mode they ever had. Such a wasted opportunity. Only mode I ever played
Survival and Underground was a nice one two punch.
I put so many hours into it and everything you said here rings true and I remember everything you mentioned.
i was in highschool coming from school playing division 1 and watching div1 content creators damn the best times i ever had.

Sigma build master Marco making a Division video is always a treat. Following you since the closed beta days , good old memories.

Sorry I'm late. Don't waste your time on TD2. Horrible grindy, live service loop.
Remember watching Marco in 2013 for division info, time flys man
What's also so impressive to me was playing after the real life pandemic.
It's those glimpses of greatness that make game's failures hurt even more.
And, Marco, you'll always be one of the GOATS of TD1
I'm a day one player of TD1, and still playing to this day. It totally captured me through the ups and massive downs. Still doing 4 or 5 hours of Survival a week too
Got back into TD2 recently after dropping it like a hot rock, but doesn't capture the feel of TD1
Man, the Division 1 was a really special game for me. I spent countless hours playing the game and watching your videos about the game.
I wish they would have added more map expansions and missions for that one, it was sooooo good. I liked Div 2 but 1 was waaay better.
Thank you.
How has it catered to PVE when there's barely any new content lol

No game will give me the same feeling when entering/fighting in the Dark Zone. I hope one day we get a game like it, with a terrifying area.

This is definitely one of Marcos harder videos to make because he’s one of the OGs who hyped up the game
This! Gameplay needs a HUGE revamp
Any reboot could reuse the maps and other graphical resources - that’s anyways where much work on modern games is spent.
Your comments on cover were extremely bias to how YOU want to play. Cover in PvE was highly useful. Changing that style is making a new game which might as well not be called division
I miss Division 1. That game just does it for me like no other.
So go get it again

The div 1 will always be one of my fondest memory in gaming. The introduction of Dark Zone paved the way for future battle royale games and the adrenaline rush you get when going rogue facing the whole server cannot be compare with anything else.
I loved both Divisions, the atmosphere was unmatched
I remember the day when Marco said that he will no longer play or creating content for Division 2, it was the saddest day in my life. Back in the day my only source for division info was Marco. So I would like to thank you for it now. Maybe one day it will come back with Division 3.
