Thanks to "Ellingtonia" there's a great story behind Sir Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington to include his inspirational genius songwriter, 🕶 Billy Strayhorn. Those two cats were magical... They made it a go What a fine collaboration. A Singer's life...
Great to see some proper music getting 1M (almost, as of Nov '23) views. Take The A train was the demo song on the second keyboard I got. It was probably a Casio. I had no idea what the song was until about 10 years later when I got into the Duke via a Gene Krupa VHS a friend lent to me which had a Caravan cover on it. Sadly, in 2023 the Duke is really only known to jazz fans in the UK but he deserves to be a household name like the people he influenced like Stevie Wonder.
What is seldom noted is that the song TAKE THE A TRAIN was written by Billy Strayhorn who was also African American and gay. Ellington considered him him a great friend and composer. Billy also wrote the song LUSH LIFE.

when I was in a band on a lat night gig we would say "I'll be taking the A train tomorrow", meaning - I'm gonna have some Ellingtonish bags under them eyes.
any one notice how you cant even hear him playing the piano at all amongst the horn section, I feel like he could have just sat there he keeps looking at the camera as if he knows he cant be heard. I really don't understand the way they eq'd this live sound because they are on the right of the screen but the left on the stage and so when the audio comes out it should have been rerouted to match what we were seeing on screen. Its so amazing how far we've came for sound production in live settings. Im just listening for college Im a producer, and rapper, I believe jazz is so important to what we do today. I feel like they should have kept the over heads closer to the pianos, because them horns will cut across the entire stage to give it more balance, but hey a classic hit is a classic hit either way. I encourage any rap fans or hiphop fans here to follow my channel. Thanks
