88.9p a litre! What the hell! Was petrol EVER that cheap? Its dropped in price now to £1.73 from £1.94 at time of writing Sep 22. Anyway, thanks for the info on the great Skorpion tank Rimmer.
The reason they stopped using the Scorpion was because they figured out the 30mm RARDEN on the Scimitar was the far better gun for this vehicle (Please note: essentially the same chassis, they even swapped out the turret of the Fox Armored Car onto the Scorpion to make a functional Scimitar). Really, it come down to the problems of ergonomics, elevation, and effectiveness. Loading the 75mm Howitzer rounds required someone to be a damn near yogi or contortionist with all the weird positions you had to be in. The 30mm rounds were a quick grab, turn, slap them into the hopper, good to go. The 75mm gun had problems raising its gun up terribly high, or declining it very low as it was about the max size gun you could feasibly fit in the turret, so targets that were at range or above them were functionally safe. The 30mm gun, as both the Brits and the Soviets found out, could be raised and lowered to greater degrees due to the fact that they weren't taking up as much room along all three axises, which lead to greater range, and greater target acquisition at closer range. Finally, the howitzer did not have the proper fume exhaustion (or in this case, extraction) system so the crew was essentially huffing straight cordite every shot (yes, I know that it is not the same propellant). The 30mm, on the other hand, could effectively panic fire half its magazine without the entire crew becoming instantaneous asthmatics. Also, more round=more fun.
Bring out of mothballs scorpion light recon tank. This is for the defence of the British isles. Manned by three persons. Fast and upgraded to lethal capabilities. Main gun Chain gun Four missles Gpmg.
190 BHP - XK engine de-rated, polished conrods with lumenition electronic ignition. Nice to see him admit they are breaking the speed limit which is 20MPH for tracked vehicles (British army 40MPH) - stick to Red Dwarf Mr Barrie.
I had the Action Man Scorpion. Loved it. Thanks for the memories Rimmer!

I always thought that the L23A1 Gun fitted to Scorpion CVR(T) was 76mm
@@andyt3304 I work on a scorpion and can confirm it is a 76mm
The 76mm gun also cracked the mantle
This could be a clip directly out of Red Dwarf! lol
Those were the days! When petrol was only 89p per litre! We’ll never see those prices again!
Where is the rest of this video.????
