I have 3 GCCS and one of them has a little high colesterol, because he only likes seeds and right now I’m changing his diet. Even when you have taught a lot about variety in their food I didn’t think it was that important and now I’m struggling with diet in my birds. Please continue teaching about birds nutrition

    Woohoo a whole series - can’t wait!
Thank you so much for making educational content on bird nutrition.
There’s so much conflicting information floating in the ether, so it’s awesome to hear experts have open conversations about the topic.
Also loving the non-judgemental, non-commercialised vibes.
Your channel has been my go-to for learning more about taking care of my CBC.
Thank you so Sophie and Jason!

We just got a Conure and we are just starting the journey of learning about bird nutrition. I had no idea I would become an expert food chopper. Im finding he has definite preferences and he will actually pick through the chop to find his favorite bits. Glad to learn more about whats good and not so good for our little guy. Its a lot if work, but he brings a lot of joy to our home. Thanks for sharing lots of good info!

I logically thought the same thing as Dr Crean because parrots eat a variety in the wild and especially cockatiels forage for seeds. My ‘tiels love their seeds but they really crave veggies too. I need to start adding more sprouts to their diet though.

Start with just soaking items and then you can build up to sprouting!

      @@BirdNerdSophie how long to soak?

    • @BirdNerdSophie

@@otterlyfresh2886 depends what you wan to soak! buckwheat is 15 mins, quinoa hours, and oat groats, lentils and spelt are 8-12 hours!

I offer chop in the morning, pellets and Biodiversity bird blend foraging mix for my birds all day and a few seeds in the evening. The foraging mix is the absolute favorite but my birds go between the other foods to eat.

Hi - Can't wait for this one! My birds have dinner and breakfast and sometimes some snacks so for the morning they would have veggies, Sprouts and more. for their dinner they get seeds and they would never eat any Pellets! Xxx
EDIT: my birds love rice ( brown rice ) for their breaky as a grain nom 1 in their eyes out of all the grain lol!

I offer my GCC veggie chops and TOP’s pellet in the morning, and she pretty much finishes everything. When I return from work, I provide her fruits (every other day, mostly berries) and mixed seeds for dinner. Could this be a healthy way of raising conures?

It's a good base to start for sure! I'd recommend watching my 'What my conure eats in a day' video!
