    iPad 11" with M2 chip here. There is no reference mode in the menu. I suppose because it mine is not a XDR/Mini-LED display. Of course I knew it before I bought it but I needed a more compact iPad.
    Though I wish Apple would provide a reference mode for the iPad still. I once had an app - which is discontinued now - called "Color True" where you could make a calibration for your iPad. It was a little cumbersome because you had to connect the iPad to a Macbook Pro/iMac which in return was connected to an X-Rite (now Calibrite) spyder and you could put it on the iPad to calibrate it.
    Then the problem was - and still is I think - that the iPad could not show this calibration in the day-to-day use. BUT if I used the Camranger for the iPad I could select there to choose the iPad profile which was created in the "Color True" app and it showed a slightly different image in the Camranger app itself. And that was ok for me. So I looked at an (software) calibrated image with the CR app.
    Unfortunately the "Color True" app is no longer available although I still have it on my iPad. And now I plan to use C1P with tether cabled for my iPad which is also not using this profile. So this is no longer an option either.
    That is because I hoped to get the reference mode on the iPad 11" but this was not provided by Apple. So I have to live with it because I don't want an iPad 12.9". It is too big for me.

      I used Color True before, it is limiting and more of a proof of concept, obviously that didn't go well and that app no longer exist. And ditto to all of the reasons you listed above. I wish there was more but I think that anything "i" os related will always be limited and sandbox. Case in point, you can't really create an iPad or iPhone app on the respective devices.

    • @kingkongweta2
      @kingkongweta2 Год назад

      @@ArtIsRight Yeah. I like to use the iPad with C1P for iPad in the next few weeks. The first tests were very good. With an 11" iPad everything is much more compact. Unfortunately the software is not very thought out to perfection. You cannot name your images. They are just called "Nikon-001" or something like that. And renaming is only possible while exporting to an external SSD. But then you have identical photos on 2 media with 2 different names. That is a mess right now.
      But if these things are fixed I see myself taking photos tethered to the iPad more and more because of its compact size.

      I hear you, I think it has been a decade now that everyone wants iPad to be able to do "Pro" things. 10 years later it is getting better but not easier and not without some cleaver work around. Simple, for many parts of the process it is not. We'll see where this goes. On the bright side there's always an MacBook Air! And the M series are really great now!

    digging through google and the above comments but no solid answer was found. just wondering how do we use the 12.9 pro as an external HDR display for the macbooks and mac? i have tried the steps as apple said, turning on ref mode before sidecar but the iPad still doesnt show HDR content nor the mac's control centre doesnt give me which colour space control over the iPad. will be great if you can hint us something🙏🏻

    • @ArtIsRight
      @ArtIsRight  Год назад +1

      Not quite, you need to have an app and source that has been coded to HDR for this to work and the OS has to respect this as well. It is not quite as forward and seemless as you think.

    Ok your luminance meaning brightness is 88, but how is the brightness setting on the iPad Pro that has to affect it if turned way down or FULL brightness? Ok I see that Reference Mode locks the brightness....weird. How about calibrating the display to cool it down or warm it up is that possible? Also when I am measuring it is saying my Luminance is 229? Should I be in Reference Mode first before doing this? I think that answer is yes based on what you did. Please let me know if possible to calibrate the color tone so not too yellow or cool....thanks!
