    My two dogs, Esme and Simon camp out in the Teton Vista 1 and enjoy a comfortable night camping under the Canadian skies. We share a grouse stew cooked over an open fire in my cast iron cook set. The Can Am Defender XT Cab HD10 does a great job of transporting us all in the heated cab. Camping in a tent cot is a wonderful way to experience Canada and feel you are truly part of nature!

    I want to tell you how much your videos have helped me so much.. I've been in the hospital nearly a year and recently came home.. Your videos were such a great distraction from the surgeries and countless hours of no sleep.. I really couldn't comment with all the medication I was on.. But just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and dedication. It meant the world to me and Will continue to... I died when Simon got on the mat while you were blowing it up❤️❤️❤️

      Yea - its a nice grill set but I need to adjust it for our geographical location. It needs a "stay" to hold it upright. As it heats up the pole gets loose as the ground melts. With a simple "stay" the anchor will freeze and help support the pole part. I'll make a video 😄

    Hi Michael, Esme and Simon. It looks like it was a perfect overnighter for everybody. The stars were so beautiful. I wonder if they could make a cover for the tent that would only be open at the top and have the sides covered? That way it wouldn’t be as cold inside the tent in case it were to get too windy. I know the sleeping bag is warm and you really don’t stay inside the tent for to long, other than sleeping. Thanks and see you on the next one.

    Good evening Mike , [ ponder this if you will ] some prep ahead things. A camp I had and still do but years of being there. I would take in the fall and add about 2 foot of pine needles and 🍃 leafs and make it my tent size lanth and width , then cut off are white pine bows and some older xmas trees( old Grove) and use them to cover the leafs and needles. Why u ask 🤔 , well for winter camping I had a soft spot to sleep 🤭🤭💪👍👏 , snow and ice stays on pine bows . So remove the bows when u arrive at camp . And if u do it year after year the snow being heavy squeezes the leafs and needles down and over time you build up a great bass to sleep on . Just remember to cover it back up when u go home. U want a dry spot when u come back. 🤭 . I may have forgotten a few times over the years 😔😄 . Ps . I really do enjoy this spot .

    • @TheEmporiumOutdoors

    Enjoyed the video. I gotta say thanks for giving me back the motivation to go back out and enjoy the outdoors. Been going through depression lately as my health has been deteriorating. Last few years my life has been dictated by my back injury I sustained from one of my previous job, chronic back pain and a pinch sciatic nerve. 3 surgeries and 8 operations later I have limited movements, can't lift more than 5 pounds. I go through 16 hours a day everyday in pain, only relief I get is when I take my meds that put me to sleep. Before watching your videos, never heard of BRP or Can-am. Only side by side I'm familiar with are the golf carts. Just walked in to my local Can-am dealer a few days ago, told myself I wasn't going to spend no more than $15k for one, ended up buying one for myself and another for family or friends to tag along with me- both a 2021 Defenders, one with the six foot bed and the other a 6x6 for the 3,000 lb hauling capacity. I ordered 2 custom mini tear drop camp trailer to be hauled by these just so I don't have to do any heavy bending over to setup a tent. All said and done, option out with full cabs, heaters, custom bed topper, tracks for both of them and a custom mini tear drop camper trailer, worth the $70k investment to get both my mental and physical health back. So much for telling myself to budget and spend no more than $15k to start,lol. Now comes the waiting and anxiety. I won't get to see it till after the new year once the build is complete. I look forward to 2021 to be able to go out and enjoy nature again and not worry about walking for less than 5 minutes and my back is ready to go out on me. Please keep the videos coming. I get to enjoy the outdoors through your videos and experience.

      @TheEmporiumOutdoors  3 года назад +1

      That is an inspiring story my friend!! I'm so glad you didn't let the injury beat you! I know the machines are expensive but they really do open up the outdoors to everyone. Combined with the teardrop trailer, that sounds like an amazing setup!! Please send me some pictures when you get them all setup! I'd love to see that! I hope the return to the outdoors and camping brings you the mental and physical improvements you deserve!! I'm rooting for you! Best wishes Michael! 👍

    I grew up in an old CNR train station outside of Calgary that only had a cook stove and two potbellied stoves.. I started chopping wood when I was 5. of course it was only kindling for starting the cook stove in the summer. Chopping up old shims and ripped off shards of old lumber. Half the time I would just lean the shards up and jump on them.
    Splitting is all about ax head speed, (which any baseball player knows about) Being that little I soon learned the windmill ax wind up to get the ax head moving. Pure magic for a 5 year old to watch that stuff fly apart.
    The thing with the splitting ax is that we never sharpened that thing. It also why splitting axes and malls have a quickly thickend head. The point is to turn the potential downward energy of weight and speed of the ax head into divergent horizontal energy to push the grain apart and so splitting the wood.
    Your other ax is like a cross cut saw it chops through the grain...It also shaves like a wood plane. But it does not convert downward speed into divergent horizontal force. You can bury that so deep in a round of wood that you'll break the handle off trying to get it out.
    That is why in the old days woodsmen had a double headed ax. One of each on the end of a big stick.

    • @TheEmporiumOutdoors
      @TheEmporiumOutdoors  3 года назад

      Jeanne-Gord, you are exactly right and your great story explains that perfectly! 👍 An all round axe will never beat a splitting axe for dismembering logs. I see lots of RUclipsrs splitting so much wood for absolutely no reason. I split as little as possible. If I can drop a dead standing small lodge pole pine, all I have to do is chop it into 16" lengths for the stove. They burn longer left round. 😉 It's awesome to see some of the old videos of the axe tree fellers and their double bit axes!! Those guys are something special! Best wishes Michael!

      @@TheEmporiumOutdoors Sadly no, its quite the situation in Ontario. Many clubs with many different systems with many different trail passes for ATV...then when winter hits The Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs pretty much takes over all rights (No ATV of any kind) for most trails. There are pockets of trails for ATV in the winter but very limited. I am super jealous of your proximity to what seems like endless trails and Crown Land camping. I have a plan for some ice fishing/overnight camping on the Ottawa river when it freezes up but its not the same...I like the sense of isolation when out camping.

    Another great video! I just came back from a 2 week camping trip myself with my 2 dogs. I used my tent but I also have this Teton set. My problem is that last year I rescued a 70 lbs pit mix, I’ve camped with her and she’s a great outdoor dog but I’m not sure how we would fit in the tent/cot because I also have a 35 lbs whippet mix although I’m only 5’4”. Maybe I’ll bring the Teton and a tent in case we don’t fit 😂🤷‍♀️. Dogs just love camping and being a 64 year old woman by myself they’re great protection even if is just the looks, the pit is such a sweetie but the size could be intimidating. Anyhow I have time to think about it since I’m in California and the forest is all closed down because of the fires. Again thanks for your videos very relaxing.

Leave nothing that can attract animals. I also "P" around my camp entry points as a warning, incase something comes around. Not sure if this works in reality but I've never had a camp visitor that I can attest too in the many years of camping in forests. 😉 Best wishes Michael! 🇨🇦

    Excellent video!! You are getting continually better at it that is for sure!! I purchased a TJM’ large fire anchor back in Sept to use at my cottage near Algonquin and purchased the small one as well with an extra hook and a pan support to include in my knapsack or ATV camping. They emailed me on Thurs sending it on Friday. Whoda thunk!! First found out about them on Simon A Bloke in the Woods! Interested in what anchor ‘stay’ you will invent!!

    Hi Michael another great video and adventure, I know you review a lot gear and was wondering if you have ever looked at Kodiak Canvas sleeping bag systems, they look like pretty innovative and very well built bags from all the reviews I have seen, in fact I have yet to find a negative review, but I was wondering if you have come across them and what do you think?

      Hi Marque, I haven't seen any Kodiak Canvas sleeping bags personally but after reviewing their website they look very interesting! I have a Woods -45c sleeping bag similar to this one (www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/woods-yukon-10-sleeping-bag-45c-0765526p.0765526.html). It's kinda the same but it has 3 layers that zip together. I think you will find the Kodiak very comfortable and I liked that shoulder flap thing! Let me know what you decide and if the Kodiak is any good! 👍

      I believe the Cabela's XXL is made by TETON and they look identical to some of their models. The Cabelas Deluxe Tent Cot is made by Kamp-Rite. If you already have the cot I would personally get the TETON Vista 1. I like you can use the TETON setup as a cot, cot tent or just the tent. The Kamp-Rite is just a cot tent 🤷🏻‍♂️. Hope that helps!
