Almost brought to tears when he pulled out the pictures of his brand new baby boy. He was so proud.

They go way back to the comedy club...letterman is the godfather of his kids..they been friends for a long time before they wete famous and john was working at the gucci store and at night getting the late late hours at the comedy club with Letterman...he was also richard pryor really close friend ..john witherspoon brother was in motown so he knew alot of famous people ..in regards that he earned his own way besides having a famous brother

Witherspoon is not only a great comedian, but also seems like a kind soul. This is one of the reasons Letterman was so great, getting guys like Witherspoon on the airwaves. We need more people like Witherspoon in this world right now. Wishing God will give strength to his family during this hard time. He'll be remembered by Letterman Show fans as well as many others.
had no idea John Witherspoon and David Letterman where so close. David Letterman was his best man at his wedding and baptized John's first born. Never would of known this till I watched this.

I just found out why the band played "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted" for John is because his brother wrote it. Also this guy was a riot. "Don't nobody go in there for 35... 45 minutes."

This is what comedy used to be about. If a comic made it, got his own show, film etc. he’d throw his friend a bone and put him on so they’d get exposure. Dave did this multiple times for John, Jimmie Walker and many others. Too bad Jay Leno wasn’t that way. Today its every man 4 themselves. Minus Adam Sandler who’s constantly throwing his comedy buddies a bone in his movies.
Here is a man that could make you laugh , even if you weren’t in the mood .

It only makes me realize daves been off tv now for such a bit that hes an old man too...one day he wont be here either. Once a certain old guard passes from Sullivan to Carson and even stretching as far as siskel and ebert, the new guard comes in and burns it all down. Only they USED to replace with it stuff now no one's happy until everything is a wasteland. These new ctas just don't have it and those old cats being bound by network standards and practices was actually a good thing...NOW it's carte blanche when it comes to dirty tv. Gonna be no one left soon but young peeps I don't care about watching. RIP Pops, ain't too many left...

@@CJCtelevisionnetwork They can use Pop's brother, Uncle Elroy--D.C. Curry from "The Next Friday" in a bigger role within the next script. Pop's death can be written into the updated story line. There are other talented black comics and actors that can still make the series funny.

Really appreciate this upload. John Witherspoon was so talented and funny. Have always loved his comedy. He was the foundation on the "friday" movies cast. You'll be missed John. Thoughts go out to his family.

A lot of people may not know that Letterman is Godfather to John's son John David. These guys go back to the short lived Richard Pryor show on NBC where they worked together. RIP, Pops

I liked the one about the blacks talking to the screen in a movie theater, the one about Michael jackson and the bones, the Wilt Chamberlain one with the pelvic motions had me laughing awhile. Some of this is non-PC humor which frankly I kinda miss. Gonna miss this guy.
I remember watching that wilt chamberlain bit on letterman and hurting because I was laughing so hard. Looking back at it, the crowd seemed much more dead than I remembered.

On one appearance John talked about Brent Marsh, the man who dumped bodies at a crematorium for nearly 20 years. Of course it wasn't funny what Brent Marsh done but when John spoke about it with his body language and facial expressions, it was hilarious.
So, what should've become clear at the end? Is this for his son?
