This guy has an interesting and crazy backstory. One of the teams he played for was Barcelona which was a powerhouse at that time too. He Transferred from Barcelona to Napoli a team from naples Italy that was struggling and facing relegation, for a record breaking fee at that time. There was controversy since naples and Napoli were poor cities and a poor team. So where did they get the money from? Rumor is that the Camorra mob from naples funded the move. He went on to help Naples, a team that had never even won a league title to winning multiple league titles and European championship. Partying (drinking, drugs especially cocaine) and his association with the Camorra crime mob eventually lead to his downfall. If you were to visit naples Italy to this day, many restaurants and family owned stores have pictures idolizing him, he meant a lot to the city, and those who are still alive from that era still remember him and have love for him.

That's what Maradona did for Napoli in the Serie A against Arrigo's Sachi AC Milan and Matthäus' Inter. Not just that but he literally carried Argentina to win the 86 World Cup. Also, the difference between messi and maradona is character, maradona had balls of steel and was a true leader, in football and technique they are quite similar.

    • @thedeviousgreek1540
      @thedeviousgreek1540 2 года назад +14

@@justlooking1087 Its not about organisation its about the rules of the game and the prevalent tactics.
The game was more defensive-minded in late 80s serie a. To give you an example, when maradona lifted his first scudetto, napoli scored 42 goals in 30 matches(whole league season). Thats mid table at best in todays game and there is no comparison to prime barca scoring 100+ in the league alone.
Not to mention that defenders were practicaly able to kick you for the whole 90 minutes, there was also the back pass rule, giving defense even more control of the game. Another huge difference is the point system. A win at that time only provided 2 points and a draw, same as today 1 point, so there was even more incentive to play defensively, they later changed that rule to 3 points per win so that teams would play more attacking football. The offside rule was also favoring defenders more until the change in 1990.
All in all, from maradona to messi, we got 30 years of football evolving to be more attack-minded/entertaining and we can clearly see the impact of these changes on the statistics.

The only thing you guys are missing now is actual experience playing with a football, because in order to understand things like balance and control, you need to try it for yourselves, to realize how incredibly difficult it is to get that magnetic touch of messi or maradona, incredible accuracy in curls, and so on.

16:41 He did score. THAT goal, was voted as THE BEST goal of the 20th century. Argentina vs England. World Cup 1986, quarterfinals. MASSIVE rivalry between those 2 countries for political reasons. That match Maradona made history twice: his first goal was made with the hand and the referee didn't see it (now known as "The hand of God") and the 2nd goal was "The goal of the century", which is that one where he dribbled past 4 english players + the goalkeeper all on his own (match ended 2-1, Argentina moved to semis and then the final. They won the world cup that year)

Ps: Maradona, seriously one of the best ever. In Serie A in the late 80’s and early 90’s you could still get away with launching into tackles and defenders are 6 2/3 and hard as nails. I’m almost every clip someone tries to nail him and he’s still playing like he does. Even though he knows every time he gets on the ball someone wanted to hurt him. Brave man. Great player. The hand of god still rankles though.

Did you know that the people in napoli (naples, italy) considered maradona almost their living God during in his prime (i think in the 1985-1990) even after his death. at that time, when he was drafted to play in SERIE A (italian cup) he went to a losing team that has no standing records and amongst the odds against of those strong teams (AC milan, Inter Milan, Juventus). and when he did, he brought that team to the top most outstanding clubs not only in their league, they even became champions in European cup (champions league), they became 2 consecutive champions in their league cup, super cup and of course, his infamous THE HAND OF GOD, that was never even had any players in football history ever did that impossible move yet he did proved it himself that he is not only the ever known as the hand of God but el rey de mundo (the best of entire world). respect! That's what plays into the poor video quality of some old footage. It's not the cameras...it's how the various video footage was saved and transferred to digital.

Both God like status, couldn't walk down the street, huge entourage, prodigies, made grown ups cry, pure joy to watch at what they did, both came from nothing, legendary moments that threw them into the stratosphere- Maradona's 'Thriller' moment was the world Cup in 1986. Both highly controversial made headline news, they both literally had the world at their feet, drugs helped ruined both of their careers and lives though Maradona was hard drugs not prescription. Watching Maradona in black and white practicing with the ball at 10yrs old is like watching MJs audition footage for motown 2 talented kids who noone would've ever imagined what they would've both become. Both legendary in life and death - hysteria at Maradona's death too would've been crazier had he not died during covid. Dude was man marked tighter than today and defenders didn't think twice about tackling , today they too afraid to tackle because they get yellows fast , back then you could come with a chainsaw on the field and get a yellow card . There's even a 16-20 min compilation on Ytube with Maradona dribbling and getting chopped , for me Maradona is special just because he endured all that torture and got up still at 100%

It was also very unfortunate that he played in a day and age where there was not so much professional support at club level.
He was hit by defenders big time. Had a couple big injuries, had severe issues with recovery and had to endure a lot of pain. The recoveries plus pain plus too much money started leading him into drugs. And that was his downfall. He could have had an even bigger career. And its not like his career was anything short of magic already. But he could have been even more.
Now, to compare with Messi is always going to be a bit unfair. Diego was a bit more of a playmaker. Not that he did not play more forward plenty of times, he did. But he would fall back way more and help build up play for his team. In that way, he was more of a team captain, leader on the field. He could really coordinate team play and set up everyone else around him. Besides....he did have the dribbling skills and cool finishing to go up and score by himself. He could also fall on the wings and cross perfectly. A complete offensive midfield. In that way, you can say that Messi gave the game way more goals. But Diego is mostly seen as being more decisive for his teams. He was the real "one man army" like someone else has said so well ;)
Its complicated. I did not see him play in his prime, only when he was already going down. My uncles all said that they have never seen anyone play like prime Maradona. Ever! The problem remains that he actually had few complete seasons in Europe during his prime years. Injuries, recoveries...then his addiction issues....all conspired to hold back what should have been his best years.

Penalty shot is like a free throw, inside of the area just you and the goalkeeper:
Maradona was a specialist in the free kick which is more like a 3 pointer contested with a defender in your face.
He had the greatest touch ever, he played as the best shooting guard, best point guard and best captain and leader for his country.
He was like a lot like a Kobe mentality and skills, but also so much like Jordan leadership for his team, country, and a lethal specialist like S. Curry… all combined. Definitely the GOAT 🐐.. Best ever

Before Cristiano and Messi, the biggest "rivalry" in terms of "the greatest ever" would be between Pelé and Maradona. Pelé played in the late 50s and late 70s and Maradona between late 70s and late 90s. Just as now some people might ask you "Cristiano or Messi?" Back then it was "Pelé or Maradona?".
Another sidenote: up until the 2000s there were four players regarded in general as the greatest ever, all of them for different reasons. "The four great" are Alfredo Di Stéfano (played in the 50s mostly; the 1st ever superstar in international football and one of the reasons why Real Madrid became the european monsters they are today); Pelé (won 3 world cups and had ridiculous scoring stats and dribbliing skills rarely seen before him); Johan Cruyff ( played mostly in the 70s and is known as the father of modern football and THE reason why Barca is the big institution it is today) & Maradona (one of the best dribblers ever as u just saw, single handedly carrying teams on his back and an all around crazy character on and off pitch through his life).
I'd personally add CR7 & Messi to that table cus all they have acomplished; as well as Zidane who (and this is very much just my personal opinion) i consider to be the best midfielder ever and Beckenbauer (due to being the man who revolutionized the defender postition, created a position and was the absolute flag of Germany through the 70s, 90s worldcup and Bayern's history + a huge rivalry with Johan Cruyff in international european football). I love history man (in football xd) c':

Maradona has been the best in football. He was going on the field of play and the only way to stop him was if you broke his ankle. It has given us immense joy at the football level to the Argentines. the Argentine people loved him. On November 25, 2022, his heart beaten by drug addictions could not resist anymore and at the age of 60, Diego left this world. The world cried Maradona. Argentina is still crying. Maradona tried many times to quit addictions, it was the only game Diego couldn't win

Penalty is the shot from the point (11meters from the goal) in the box = just the player against the goalie...everything else shot from outside the box with a defending men-wall is a "Freekick"... and when you once got a - with run up - kicked ball into your balls then you know exactly why those men standing in the wall are protecting "their joints"..
Diego Maradona was the undisputed GOAT of his football era in the whole decade of the 80ties...yeah Messi has similarities in the playing style but there are no similarities in the mindset and attitude , Diego was the absolute leader of his team and always in competition mode he was kinda like "the Michael Jordan of Football" ...
If Messi wants to achieve Maradona´s standing he has at first to win the World Cup with Argentina and additionally he has to sign up for Burnley in the Premier League and then win with Burnley the Premier League....that´s what it meant back then to sign up for Napoli a religation team and winning with them the Italian League which was in the 80ties the strongest League in the world with the best players of the world playing in that League´s top teams.. as like as the Premier League is today...despite the fact that in the 80ties the game was played way more brutal by the defenders because yellow cards for hard fouls were barely given..what today is a straight red card was back then most of the time just a verbal warning from the refs and not even yellow if those were even considered as foul in the first place..

yeah its a free kick, they cover themselves cos its very difficult to get that ball over the wall and into the goal. sometimes u hit the shot and it hits people in the wall, so they cover they nuts and their heart area. its actually quite difficult to get it over the wall, so guys gotta stay protected, especially when someone like canon ball roberto carlos is shooting em, you can get hurt

As an Argentinian that loves Messi, you can't compare them.
    MARADONA IS ABOVE EVERYONE.
    Facts:
1 - Messi needs a team, he is playing at his prime because FINALLY BUT TOO LATE he has a team.
2 - DIEGO WAS THE TEAM (HE WAS A MIDFIELDER)
    3 - Heavy ball
    4 - Shitty pitches
    5 - No especial diets
    6 - No gym training
    7 - Shitty shoes
    8 - No ref protection
9 - Defenders (Maldini or Gullitt)that make Pepe and Ramos look like girls
YOU CAN'T COMPARE A GOD LIKE A PLAYER WITH HUGE PLAYERS.
YOU CAN'T PLAY OR BE COMPARE WITH DIEGO, IF YOU ARE NOT DIEGO
