  • My windshield got hit by a rock and cracked! I didn't have time to get it fixed immediately so I used a little trick my dad taught me to keep it from getting worse until I did have time to have it repaired properly.

    You forgot to put a link to where to get a napkin like that one, is it a special order?

    Don't ever do this... It DOESN'T prevent spreading. In fact it can make your glass non-repairable....The impact point is how a chip is filled. If you fill it with glue, gravity may cause it to go into the start of the cracks and dry it in them. Most repair kits go through the impact point to fill the cracks. If the cracks are filled with glue the resin from most kits won't be able to bypass the glue. Especially the vacuum sealed professional ones. Your better off putting tape over it to keep it clean and get it fixed asap.

      I'm pretty sure they remove the glue when you take it to a shop. I've done this several times now and taken it to a shop afterwords, they have never complained and they still warranty the repair.

      I work at an autoglass shop and if there is any glue or nail polish or anything we will not and can not repair it Wes mantooth is correct it will not repair with anything in the crack

      John Murphy is right, if there is any glue in a chip, our resin will not flow in and fill the chip. In order to fill the chip in it has to be virtually untouched. Putting super glue over the chip does absolutely nothing as there is no pressure to force it into the part of the chip that would spread in the first place

      I got a crack at the very top. Slightly too big to professionally fix. So in my case it would have to be replaced anyways. I don't see why glue might not help in the meantime.

    Wat u also could have done was use rubber gloves and add 1 drop or however much is needed to fill the nick or crack let it dry completely then hit it with sandpaper and knock it down to where the glue is flush with the crack or very close to it then hit it with some 1000 grit sanpaper and some rubbing compound...boom crack problem fixed

    • @chosenideahandle
      @chosenideahandle 5 лет назад +2

      What makes more sense is to skip the sandpaper and go right to the compound, so you're not scratching the glass in the first place. Rubbing compound does nothing to polish glass, so the sandpaper idea will get you in trouble (you'd need a product specific to glass polishing if you scratch glass, and it's a lot of work for nothing).

      1000 grit on glass will scratch it to a noticeable point. Even 3000 wet sanding on glass causes micro swirling. Leveling the glue is as simple as shaving it with a razor, the remaining glue can just be polished over with compound

    Not sure about Texas - or wherever this is - but here in the UK, nobody will touch a windscreen that's been messed with like this. Autoglass, or any of the big boys will just show you the door. Don't do it.

      He said temporary repair.... What he means until he must replace the whole windshield.
      Any of the "big boys" will do it even if no windshield is there.

    Don't super glue.You need windshield glass resin in the crack.

    • @illegalwaffel6435

      yes but this is just a temporary quick fix to not have it spiderweb even more while driving around until you can get it in and get a new windshield or have them professionally repaired
