My father was a few years behind the Prog era. He graduated the same year as In the Court of the Crimson King. But he had very little Prog or Prog related material in his collection. He did have Moody Blues albums. Also some Santana. He really loved the live version of Conquistador from Procol Harum and Living in the Past by Jethro Tull. My Prog albums were the albums he liked most that I listened to. So I probably got him into Prog more than he ever got me into it. My Mother is a classical pianist and really liked my classic Genesis albums. I thought Dream Theater would be too heavy for her and she loved it. My cousin introduced me to Prog Metal when I was in high school. I loved Prog and Metal so it was an instant hit for me. My gateway into Prog was not my father’s Moody Blues albums but when I got into Tears for Fears. The best Prog Pop band ever. I really appreciated the complex time signatures, complexity, and creativity. They destroyed most their contemporaries in every category. They made me lose interest in mainstream music entirely. I had to start looking elsewhere. Started to listen to my parents music for a few years. After discovering Prog I ended up abandoning that music also. It’s been over 30 years now since I got into Prog and over 20 since I started becoming obsessed with it. Glad I was able to introduce my parents to it because they liked it more than I liked the music they were listening to.
Your dad is soo like me in so many ways . And my 5 year old daughter already loves my vinyl collection and playing the piano and bass like dad. Love your vids , John Coltrane Miles Davis and Bill Evans are my hero’s
Dad's collection ain't messing about, he's made me stand up and walk to my vinyls to make sure my plastic still intact. . Note to self, never try to compete with any Daddy collection. Hehe
Dad is killing it!! Allman Bros, Cash, Byrds, JJ Cale, Coltrane, Miles, EW&F....on and on...Enjoyable vid, so great to see you share your love of music with your dad!
Seeing the first group of your Dad's albums after having watched the three videos of your collection kind of leaves me speechless, in the keyboard sense. Wow! Don't know that I've ever been in a record store that could rival what you've show to us. You are spoiling us with all this great content. Thanks much, and by the way love the abstract on the wall behind you both.
I have to congratulate your father for be YOUR father!!! The relationship of your is so inspiring!!! I can see in your eyes when you look at him how you love him!!! Take care of him!!!
I like how this is a prog channel, and your dad is obvz a prog fan, but then "Pet Sounds" comes along and it's instantly the volume goes up to 11 😁 And Joy Division and the JAMC were outliers I didn't expect. Got to love the randomness of musical taste.
Wow! You and your dad have very good taste in music! 😃😃😃 This vinyl record collection is amazing! 💓 I found out your channel recently and I love it! Congrats!!! 😁😁😁👏👏👏
You can tell a Dead fan from a 1000 yards. It’s something you can’t hide. I loved the way your Dad’s voice changed when you reached the Janis Joplin album. What a voice indeed. Great video.
Love seeing you and your dad doing videos. He has a fantastic collection. I’d love to hear Govt Mule. Humble Pie, I had the pleasure to see them. I’m glad to see our taste in music runs parallel. Very much enjoyed it. Peace love and rock and roll ✌️
Such a diverse bunch of albums. I need to jot down every band/album that I haven't heard yet. Given how much I like what I have heard out of this list, I'm sure the rest will live up to my expectations. Thank you both for the fantastic video
This video brought tears to my eyes . . . so many albums I used to own before selling my whole collection a couple of decades ago. My biggest regret. :( I look forward to shedding more tears during the next part. Great channel, subbed. I wish you great success Niamh and dad. I'm about the same age as your old man, so it's great to have him to relate to when you show albums of "modern" bands I've never heard of. Oh, and I'm a bass player too, so I can relate to you as well. Win win! :)
Your hair was gorgeous in this video......umm....so was your dad's. I LOVE those Beach Boys albums he included. Such high moments on each of them that were virtually ingnored! I grew up with and now have that Carpenters album. I could sit and talk music with both of you for hours!
Favorite band of all time Rush followed by,Kraftwerk, Steve Hillage,The Smiths,U2,Ride,Eno,Pixies,Boards Of Canada,Bombay Bicycle Club,Aphex Twin etc etc......good music is good music whatever the genre ,people who only like one genre need a good errr Talking to.
Wow!! Never heard anyone mention Big Star outside of my hometown of Memphis. Buddy of mine is a session player at Ardent and runs into surviving members from time to time.
It's the thing I miss the most: going to the record store, picking up random stuff and just hoping for an exciting discovery... there are no records stores left in my home town. :-( Of course there are new and amazing ways to discover new music and it's mind-blowing how I can do everything on my computer... but since it's much easier to find new good stuff, the excitement isn't as big anymore.
23 years old - record collector (When the money is available) - Might be commenting on sacred territory, but the Strange Days vocal inflections and the subsequent reaction was just perfect - Just found your channel - Engaging, light hearted and enjoyable :) Keep it up! Take care, and stay safe.
My age is probably somewhere in the middle between the 2 of you (I guess a few years closer to your dad). What amazes me the most is the many-sidedness of your dad's taste in music and that he obviously never lost his ability to get into something new. Gotan Project? For real? That is so amazing! :-)
Of course I enjoy this. Nice shirt Pete. Niamh, I look forward to your channel every day. I enjoy interacting with you and your followers. Now for a question. Has your dad heard Phish perform the entire WHITE album?
Niamh, have you ever opened one of your dads gatefolds and had old seeds come tumbling out? I want to party with Dad! You guys are great. The love and respect you have for your dad is so apparent it warms my heart on this bone chilling day on the shores of the Chesapeake.
Yay! America! Love those guys. Big Star! Byrds! Any Burritos? Ah, yes. Carpenters! Folsom Prison was the first album I bought myself. I'm guessing we grew up at the same time. CTA! Eagles! I could go on but you know what you have. Thank you both for sharing.
Great collection so far. I have many of those albums, and seen many of those artists live. Including Warren Haynes with Blue Floyd !!! I also have a Kandinsky hanging in my living room. ✨✨✨
Seems Your Dad and Me have run down down the same Roads where music is concerned.. Ironically i was actually playing Dark Star from The Live/Dead Album When Your Video Came Up .......Guys have a Good evening.
Greetings from Chicago. Wow it’s like your dad was going through my vinyl collection. I really enjoy your videos. You and your dad make a great team. ✌️✌️
Your dad is such a cool dude! Awesome collection, I can see where you may get your box set bug from 😂 loving the mid-period Beach Boys stuff as well! So dope that he has the UHQR Aqualung! Seriously keep these vids with your dad coming!
Your Dad is cool. Very knowledgeable, and a great eclectic taste. And he's a Gram Parsons fan! And Blackberry Smoke? Joy Division? Awesome. Thanks again for a great episode, goodnight!
I don't know how old your Dad is, but I'm a 57 year old American and I'm amazed at his collection and he comes across as an incredibly cool man. Keep him close and cherish him.
I'm glad to see that you have a couple of Rory Gallagher albums in there, lol, and Madman Across the Water is Elton John's best album IMHO. Here's a fun fact about someone associated with 2 of your albums. My oldest sister dated Gram Parsons, who was big influence on the Byrd's Sweetheart of the Rodeo album and who was the founder of the Flying Burrito Brothers, back in the mid 1960's. There is still an annual festival held in my hometown of Winter Haven Florida called the Derry Down festival in honor of Gram and the Derry Down club in Winter Haven, where Gram and his first band were the house band, was restored and opened in 2016 as a venue to promote music education for young people. It is very clear that Dad has EXCELLENT taste in music !!! 👏👍✌️
Waited for Home to appear. Home were a British rock band, active in the early 1970s. The core line up featured Mick Stubbs on lead guitar and lead vocals, Laurie Wisefield on lead guitar and vocals, Cliff Williams on bass guitar and vocals, and Mick Cook on drums. They also had two keyboardists during their existence. From 1971 to 1972 it was Swansea's Clive John (from the Welsh band Man), and the other for the rest of their short career was Jimmy Anderson. They started touring in November when they supported Led Zeppelin at the second Electric Magic Show at the Wembley Empire Pool. From then on, they opened for groups such as Argent, The Jeff Beck Group, and The Faces. In September of the same year, they went into the studio again to record the Home album. The LP reached number 41 in the UK Albums Chart. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Home_(UK_band)
Isn't it amazing how music can preserve memories much better than pictures? It's like everything comes back... the way it actually _felt_ . A few years ago, I made a list for which I chose 1 song for every year of my life with 1 short note attached to it (only 5 or 6 words). I was born 1978, my list started with the year 1984... It was such a fun and satisfying thing to do. :-)
I like just about everything you and your dad like. Obviously from my profile picture you can see I love the Doors but being a huge Deadhead, I really appreciated that collection! 😊
Aloha Niamh, You dad sure has an extensive record collection, I never seen some of those box sets before "Allman Brothers", are these Imports, if so what country. Your dad's record collection puts mine to shame, I love seeing his variety in music , from Jimi Hendrix to The Carpenters, that was me in the 1970's also, I would listen to Deep Purple & also listen to Bread. Thank you again for a super Video. Looking forward to your next Video. Tell your dad Hi , from another 64 year old In Hawaii. Mahalo ed.
I love the variety of music you Dad is interested in from John Coltrane to Beck that spans 50 years of music and sharing his own personal memories , I look forward seeing the remaining Lps from his collection, that will prompt me to think, that group or artist is worth checking out 🎸🙂
I love your passion for music ( both of you), there are many artists there that passed me by, you can't listen to everything! I had as few carpenters LPS but no one would admit it....still loved the songs and Karen's voice!
Your dad has some great stuff! "Sweethearts of the Rodeo" and "Gilded Palace of Sin," despite being the furthest thing from prog rock, are two of my favorite albums, too. If your dad loves those albums, I'll bet he would also love (if he hasn't heard them already) Gene Clark's solo albums, like "No Other," "White Light," "Roadmaster" and "Two Sides to Every Story." And haha!--I was wondering (since he had said "West Coast rock" in a previous video) if he would have "It's a Beautiful Day" in his collection, he did not disappoint! :)
Also, the album Gram Parsons made pre-Byrds (it's called "International Submarine Band") is awesome too...they did a fantastic rock song called "One Day Week"
Great video! Knew i’d enjoy this! Is the copy of closer by Joy Division an original? As it’s often hard to tell unless the sleeve is aged and a bit musty smelling in which case it’s an original to me! I ask because when doing to recent(ish) reissues warners who own the JD back catalogue got the fine details so precise that even the runout groove messages are the same as the originals!!!!
So good. One might find it a bit hilarious if one wasn't exactly the same oneself. Band of Horses you say? Very interesting, i picked up their first one. The Cranberries you say? I do declare, i just played that before i got on here! Churchill's you say? I was reading about this album on rym just last night! Must check it out. I love how your dad has all his albums in plastic outer sleeves Niamh. True dedication to and proper respect for vinyl!
Awesome albums and a lot of nice box sets - would love to have that Garcia/Saunders at the Keystone boxset!!! (I have the double lp). It looks like you have many newer reissues, must be quite an investment. Nice Dead collection, I would add their acoustic live set" Reckoning" and "Shakedown Street"
Love the collection vid. Referring to one of the Grateful Dead albums, your Dad mentioned Stamford in Connecticut but pretty sure it was probably Stanford in California. I live in Stamford and am quite sure the Dead never played here. Also the album was moving pretty fast but quite sure I spotted a "CA" on the cover which would be California. Also surprised to see no Focus or Gentle Giant. Keep up the good work.
Great collection! And Kind of Blue is my pick for best recording ever. It's nice to see you and your dad love many styles of music. And the Carpenters were good. My closet is full of guilty pleasures, most I keep from my wife so she won't lose what little respect she has for my music tastes. {:-)
Peter is the cool dad I always wanted 😭. Obviously he has a very marked psychedelic-sixties base but definitely embraces many classic rock staples. Highlights (my personal taste) from this 1st part is Rory Gallagher's Irish Tour '74; Walk on Hot Calls is one of my all time air guitar songs (it's not shredding, I don't know what it is). Jazz is my second love. Any human being with Miles, Coltrane and Bill Evans in their collection, is best friend material.
I have a huge (and very expensive) Carpenters collection including all of their anniversary box sets and rare recordings. Greatest female vocalist of all time.
This is cool, as I usually end up rooting through people's music collections and it's cool to see. Thanks for sharing yours with us. I forgot to ask before if you had any Ozric Tentacles or Gong? Cream? I have them. Miles was a master, Kind of Blue is an album that changed history. SRV? how did I not know about Govt Mule? Thanks for the introduction. I shall be checking them out.
Although I'm a CD person, I really enjoy watching your videos. And I think, even I'm closer to the edge of you dad, I'd closer to your music collection. Do you like Radiohead? My personal favorite album is Kid A. Regards from Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Really enjoyed the vid. Had to laugh about your Dad's Carpenters comment. I am his age and in the 70's it was not cool to admit liking the Carpenters in my social group. I really liked Karen's voice but would only listen to her on the radio in my car when I was by myself.
Your Dad seems to be really into Southern Rock. Does he like The Black Crowes and in particular their later stuff that's a little bit country sounding.
Grea8 collection 🤩 I have one recommendation for both of you..Spyrogyra..Bells, boots and shambles from 1973..pretty obscure folk prog and crazy rare album.. Well worth a listen...opening track frikken awesome 🤘
Also the exclusive copy of “American Beauty” that you have, is it the recent anniversary website exclusive on multicoloured vinyl? That sold out quicker than you could blink! Plus it’s coming from the states so the postage and customs costs must’ve been astronomical??!!
Hey,that G.F Fitz-Gerald album will be worth some money.I had a copy, in a previous life,on cassette from a local older "character" who had a "eclectic" taste in music and who introduced me to many albums and bands. He was also a Deadhead and Zappa freak.Churchills as well. Some really great albums.Looking forwarf to the rest of the alphabet.
Dad and daughter sharing music together.....MAGIC.
Sharing GOOD music together... great!

Insane! Such a beautiful collection! Your dad is serious about vinyl! That’s a beautiful thing! Looks like you got a musical library in your house!
Seeing the first group of your Dad's albums after having watched the three videos of your collection kind of leaves me speechless, in the keyboard sense. Wow! The Mars Volta and At the Drive in!! Those caught me off guard as I watched a few of your videos.
Greetings from New Orleans!

Really enjoying your Chanel folks thanks for sharing your collection.
Been lucky enough to see 90 % of these bands many times Thanks Chris Seattle
Such a diverse bunch of albums. I need to jot down every band/album that I haven't heard yet. Given how much I like what I have heard out of this list, I'm sure the rest will live up to my expectations. Thank you both for the fantastic video

Cool to see mouseproof get a mention, I love that album
Fantastic! I do not know many who really like Joy Division as well as Prog! I DO. Others should come forward!
I am both a prog and Joy Division fan...."Transmission," "New Dawn Fades," "The Eternal" are some of my favorites...
I am as well, I also love America and lots of other albums he has.
@@gammaanteria Great! I am not alone! :)

The passion for discover new bands and songs. What a time!
A Smashing Video to be sure nice to see some of the rare albums in repress
Awesome collection. I have a few of those LP's... Keep up the good work.

Love that you gave Beck's Odelay a shout out. A fantastic listen on vinyl.

Ash ra Temple! I was just looking for a copy of that album and originals are pushing $200 + right now. Great collection!!
Great collection! Nice rarities..
That John Grant album he pulled out "Queen of Denmark" is one of my favorite records of the 2010's decade. Absolutely brilliant songwriter.
I love the variety of music you Dad is interested in from John Coltrane to Beck that spans 50 years of music and sharing his own personal memories , I look forward seeing the remaining Lps from his collection, that will prompt me to think, that group or artist is worth checking out 🎸🙂
Love your dad's shirt! I have all the same recent GD live vinyl boxes so I expect we're on the same email lists.
I love your passion for music ( both of you), there are many artists there that passed me by, you can't listen to everything! I had as few carpenters LPS but no one would admit it....still loved the songs and Karen's voice!
I was surprised at how many of these albums I was not familiar with, being 60. ⚫ Collection is a valuable one. I am also a huge Carpenters fan.

Beautifull collection, the box of The Allman brothers is amazing. Even the Churchils album! Very hard to find.
more dad, please! you guys are so awesome together. more krautrock too!
First Garcia album. 👍 thanks for showing them.
Hey friends.....this is fantastic.....WOW.
carpenters have always been cool in my books karens voice is the best
Most definitely, nothing wrong with the Carpenters,
I can add a few recommendations Naomi , Focus, PFM and Spooky Tooth, these bands are not that popular but really are stellar!
Thank You that I am looking into more Prog music like Yes songs for example.
i think your Dad is my soul brother ,,, talk about great taste, wow !
Congrats on 3k subs, smashing it!
Thank you so much!
Agree the carpenters singer truly had the voice of an angel
Wow!!! Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers Band, Doors, Hendrix, It's a Beautiful Day....
And The Carpenters will never be guilty pleasure material. This movie scene is evidence thereof:

I like how your dad has The Carpenters as a secret like and Kira's dad has The Seekers as the group he secretly likes.
There’s always one....
I love listening to Karen Carpenter sing and I absolutely adore Judith Durham, one of the great treasures of Australia folk/pop music.
Gov't Mule is a great band. Enjoy the sounds.
I have that Byrds album but on cd! Good music!
The most important thing in music is to learn all genders in style ..then you can say......I know my stuff ...bless you both....rick.
Very interesting. Thank you very much for this video
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the Dead are Dad's go-to band when he wants to spin the black circle.
It is and yes
Hey,that G.F Fitz-Gerald album will be worth some money.I had a copy, in a previous life,on cassette from a local older "character" who had a "eclectic" taste in music and who introduced me to many albums and bands. He was also a Deadhead and Zappa freak.Churchills as well. Some really great albums.Looking forwarf to the rest of the alphabet.
