This exercise is a staple of my home workout. I am 67 kg, and currently, I walk with 40 kilos ( both hands combined). I will increase it to 45 kilos once I am able to comfortably walk 200 steps with 40 kilos. I do 10X 40-kilo farmer walks ( 100 steps) + 5 X 10 ( 30 kilos) squats + 5- 8 km walk and nothing else. Here is the benefit: I got a lot more leaner. I am not super muscular ( that's because my diet sucks, and I eat too less), but my strength has gone up significantly. my neck has gotten thicker. My forearms feel much fuller. Also, Farmar Carry gave me the necessary strength needed to do 4 proper pull-ups at a go. I have been doing this farmer walk thing for about 5 months (it helped me a lot on my treks ). One small tip about posture: I slightly squeeze my belly inward. It feels a lot safer while carrying that weight.
Also, if you want to test your grip and core strength, put these weights in cement bags( emptied) and carry them. You will be surprised how heavy these weights feel when you carry them this way. What I have learned is if you can carry 20-kilo dumbells, you will be able to farm carry only 15- 17 kilos when you put those weights in the bag.

one RUclipsr that I follow is Aaron from Squat University. He recommends barefoot for walking and weightlifting. He rehabilitated a female Indian Olympian. Chennai is her first name if I'm not wrong.
This kind of exercise is okay, but he stresses to do it one side at a time for developing the core stability.
Personally I would have a concern about your barefoot practice in Southern India as I fear for scorpions and venomous snakes.
Barefoot is good... but in a controlled environment... otherwise it becomes a safety concern as you said...✌️
