I need a good piano (only have mainstage at the moment). I will likely add the scarbee mk1 later. And maybe maybe the giant. But for now - the question is modern upright or studio grand. It's hard to compare the demos because of the differences in reverb I think. Any preferences or advice please??
I use The Giant currently at Hillsong, and have my presets available on Multitrack.com for it. The Giant is kind of a cross between an Upright and a Grand, so I like it for that reason. But other pianos you could consider would be Native Instruments - The Gentleman and The Grandeur.
So with current prices this over $5000 to $6000 to buy ( with Omiphere and Keyscape, 2 liceneces of Mainstage 3 and an Audio Interface, cables and usb hub etc) and he has been learning this for 10 years; or you can go out a buy the hardware version , say a Roland Fantom or Korg Kronos2 etc for the same money and less of a learning curve since it is the same as most synth before it. The hardware keyboard would be more reliable than the Mac ( new OS just coming out) as well.

Hi Peter, great video my friend, one question, how can i disable the velocity in a pad made with the analog Pad plugin that comes with mainstage to keep the same volume in the pad sound always, Blesses.
I'm not sure what plugin you're referring to in MainStage. I don't see an Analog Pad plugin available in MainStage. If you're referring to the EXS24 sample player that can play analog pads etc the velocity can be disabled by making sure the two parts of the volume slider are together and not separated. That will make the volume constant and make sure the Filter isn't mapped to volume either.

Curious if Mainstage 3+ is the only version you use in 2020. If your church worship team has a front of house audio guy, shouldn't they be in control of your keys reverb?
Not usually the case in a lot of churches. The thing with keyboards is that they have multiple layers of sound with each sound having an independent reverb or chorus send. And usually the end result sometimes is a well balanced output from the keyboard with the a not to dry or wet amount of reverb to FOH. If FOH decides to add more reverb to that, the keyboard would get lost in the mix and won't be heard properly through the speakers and even in ear monitors. But if you do have a dry keyboard mix, you can always ask your FOH to help you out.
How would I be able to trigger and record the pads like you are doing at 36:48 because currently at my church I am going to be a solo keyboardist and thats an amazing idea so if you could teach me how to do that, that would be amazing.

Is it considered wrong or awkward to just use the Yamaha Motifs on board sounds? I mean I never really understood why people use yamaha motifs and moxfs solely as midi keyboards when all of their sounds are so good, and all the sounds you need are on the motif, pianos, pads epianos, strings, they are all there. Is it just a trend that now every one is playing through a laptop? Would I be looked at as uncool if I just used the Motif sounds?
ranaair The Yamaha Motifs are great with great sounds. It’s really up to you what you like. But i love using my laptop for a lot of reasons. Custom sounds, portability etc
Thanks for the response. I really appreciate it. Good to know that using hardware is still ok in 2018 lol. The part where you explain patches for specific songs definitely comes in handy I hope i can save up enough one day to get your setup. How about the playing style in a CCM / Hillsong style setting. Is there a specific style that is required in Hillsong style churches? I grew up playing mostly black gospel music. Would it be out of place to play with that style (phat chords and progressions, 9ths 13ths Diminished chord voicings etc.) in a hillsong setting? Should I restrict myself more to sus2 chords and simple triads in such a setting in order to be conducive to a service? what do you think?
ranaair each hillsong church has a slightly different style because different people are playing obviously, but it’s relatively consistent. We all play the correct chords but have slight variations within that.
Oh ok i see. So I guess I will try to create a blend between black gospel and ccm when a play ccm service next time and see how it's recieved. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

Ditch the mac and main stage and soft synth plugins and just learn how to use a good hardware workstation....No idea why people have to have a computer onstage...sure if your running a live rig of 6 keyboards and 4 modules for PG change CC info etc but for one keyboard come on....or is it that its cool to have a laptop next to you? ...A hardware workstation has all hard control surfaces in front of you for a start....no mucking around with a mouse, looking at a screen away from your keyboard etc etc etc. Have to give it to Mac and main stage though....they've done a great marketing/con job to make you spend $$$
AGPMandavel That was my point...you just need a decent WS and learn how to use it...Hardware is designed for live use....laptops belong in the studio not stage...they crash, glitch, and clip. Besides...you cant trust/use what ever is at the church...could be a 61 or 76 etc or a weighted action that you dont like....again, ditch the laptop and get a decent WS....hopefully the laptop trend will end
AGPMandavel and by using your theory....its the same as saying to a guitarist....bring your foot processor and use our guitar thats on stage....personally i dont like Nord actions...and definately not a weighted one. Playing organ tones on a weighted piano action? Um...nah

Thank you!! Also i am not sure if you brought it up in this video or the next but you had a keyboard that was reversed. How did you do that?
Michael Harrison There’s a reversed piano in here www.multitracks.com/patches/Peter-James/Ultimate-MainStage-Collection-3-MainStage/ (there is also an Omnisphere version too on Multitracks)
Michael Harrison watch the walkthrough video for the Ultimate MainStage Collection 3. It shows how I made it there.
Can you assign pads to the buttons on the Korg NanoKontrol with Ableton?
Dave Beyer yes you can do this nails Ableton as well as MainStage
Hey Pete! Love your stuff... Do you still put low latency patches (i.e a piano) in logic and your pads in mainstage with an increased buffer size? Or just all inside mainstage? Also, what sample rate would you use? Thanks!
I only use Strings inside Logic at a high buffer setting. I run my sample rate at 44.1. No need to go higher, especially for live playing!
Hi Peter can you tell me the best external sound card
Cara eu sou seu fã gosto muito do seu estilo de toca.
Hi Peter! What's the mini usb controller on the Motif are you using?
Dinho Braga Korg Nano Kontroller 2
Thank you Bro!
Hey man can you use Ableton Live 9 intro to play tracks or do you need suite?
Nana Mensah as far as i know you can use live 9 intro although I’m not aware of what the differences are personally
Peter James Productions cheers
can you set pads to a button controller on the midi controller ? like touch a button and they start playing ? anybody can help me out ?
Johnny Cha-Rach yes you can. It’s hard to explain in txt though. Email us at support@multitracks.com for more info or check out this product which is setup like this www.multitracks.com/patches/Peter-James/Complete-Worship-Bundle-MainStage/
como se llama el pad que combinas con el piano en el time...31:20seg?
Daniel Landinez That specific one is this patch here www.multitracks.com/patches/Peter-James/Heavenly-1-Omnisphere/CS-80-String-Pad/
The slower attack brighter Pad later on is this one www.multitracks.com/patches/Peter-James/Analog-Shimmer-Pads-MainStage/Steal-Shimmer/
if you have that MOXF6, you can replace your whole setup with only the keyboard because sounds coming from the MOXF6 are already really good. :)
But can't the MOXF only layer like 4 sounds at a time?
@@josephtomlinson7427 correct - 4 layers. I then top it up with main stage - so up to 7-8 layers in total + drone pad, all using Mainstage + SundaySound patches
you da man bro!!! Amazing Vid! #owsshoutout
pls what is the name of the midi controller that you are using
Eben Amissah The little midi thing with sliders, knobs and buttons is a Korg NanoKontrol. The keyboard is a Yamaha Motif.
thanks bro, really blessed by your presentation.
What's the mini midi controller that he is using?
Emmanuel Chayer Korg NanoKontrol 2
Thanks! Wasn't sure if it was that or something else.
Thank you Pete! Any suggestions on what mac to get right now?
My Mac is 3 years old and runs great. I suggest at least 8 gig of Ram (16 is better) and a SSD harddrive.
THANKS PETER FOR THE REPLY but anything more specific like would a Macbook Pro (TouchBar) 13" I5 2.9Ghz 16GB Ram 512GB SSD be able to run everything that you do (Like creating really CPU heavy patches)? or would I need to go for even better?
Why so NOOB!? Definitely. That's better than my computer :)
mainstage 2? I want )':
I use MainStage 3 in Part 2 btw :)
Is part 2 already out?
Soon. I'll upload it next week when it's ready.
Part 2 is up now ruclips.net/video/PaeE41GWvI8/видео.html

Ah yes! The fine people of Alaska!
Thanks a lot for the feedback.
ranaair we definitely don’t change the style of the song individually unless it’s something the Worship Leader/MD agrees on. Just so you know :)
Man, pete is swole..
Omg. My dream is to be skillful in keyboard and so on. 😭 somebody help me.

Lets cover the Keyboard name with black tape so the guy later can tell us the brand and model. lmfao
The crazy thing is that its only using it for the midi... 🤦🏻♂️
Lol he could be using $100 basic keyboard, it doesn’t matter....
You have monster $4,000 keyboard and only use the midi output 😂
It is not his keyboard. The one you see him playing belong to that specific church branch who might use it's internal sounds. Peter is just there to demonstrate his Mainstage setup and provide useful info so that's why he uses it as a midi controller.
Um...nah
But what if you don't have the money for a Montage or Kronos or any high end WS?
Hey so I’m thinking about saving up to use Ableton for live tracks rig at my church (we currently use Mainstage). So would I need to buy Ableton Live 10? (Ableton has a few different versions so I’m abit ubsure which one I need)
