Great video. Sharing it with several members. Thank you for hitting the point that the definition of what a Maquette changes. Saying “real life” regarding anything Galactus can only be said y a true comic fan. :)
Hey comics fam thank you for explaining the statue scale is now that makes 100% sense before it didn't make no sense to me thank you so much mentor I do appreciate
Hey gem, liked the video and definitely cleared up some confusion. I want to get into statue collecting and would like to know how to display them. Ranging from 1/6 to 1/3. Like shelves and stuff. It would be great if you could make a video on that and i think others would appreciate it as well.
Cuz I saw one of your older videos and you have this flash statue that I really love and I would like to figure out a way to get it from you one day somehow you got me really turned on on the Statue game so thank you very much for broadening my horizons
I knew nothing about the differences until this video. Thanks Steve Do you ever see SS re-release a statue? I want a thanos on throne but only ones I've seen have been on ebay for 500-700 more than original price.
I have mostly Sideshow Statues and it does get a bit confusing as to their actual size when they start using terms like Maquette and Comiquette, in addition to just their standard term Premium Format. I usually associated Comiquette with either concept statues or versions that were strickly seen in comic books and not films like the MCU or DCU movie franchises. The best way to decipher a Sideshow statue that uses various names is to scroll down to their description of what's in the box below their photoshots. It will give you the exact measurements in height, width and depth unless it states that it is yet to be determined. The rest of the statue makers are pretty straight forward like you said. I think Sideshow uses a lot of the terminology they do to justify the pricetags on some items. Some of which are worth the price but sometimes not, and it is just an attempt to rake in some extra cash on an item that should cost a bit less. Just my own observations since collecting with Sideshow since like 2014.
I know if I were to ever get into the statue game now I can say that I would probably buy more maquette statues than premium format statues. Thanks for the great info Gem 💎
Nice video man!! I got a question though: I have a litte collection i started bout a year ago and i was wondering how you take proper care of these statues over time?
Sideshow needs to a column for scale information stated clearly like Prime 1 and XM. If anyone does 1/2 scale fully sculpted they will take all my money.
Thanks alot for this video im new to collecting and man its alot to learn! Also where do you get your white shelving I need some for my 1/4 scale statues
Great iñfo great to know the math and the differences for different price points maybe one day as my collection starts to fund it's self I will get on that level for now they are out of my wallet's range I can't handle comics and statues.🤔🤔🤔🤔
Hi, the recent Jean Grey with the dark Phoenix maquette in preorder on the sideshow website is in 1/4 like Rogue, Gambit and Magneto, or she is in 1/5 scale? Some people says 1/5, some people says 1/4, what is your opinion?
Great vid, the terminology always confused the heck out of me... and even worse the Bowen line did the 1/6 Scale dirty because everyone thinks they are 1/6 scale when they are not. Its such a shame that 1/6 scale isnt appreciated anymore, i blame Bowen for that....
Recently you mentioned that Prime 1 loses their value. Why is that? It won’t necessarily stop me from possibly buying one, but interested in hearing your thoughts. Great vid as always 🥃.
i think the over saturation of the market...with so many new pieces to buy, harder to sell old ones. Prime 1 also tends to make variants of their pieces...which doesnt help. Also, their price point is pretty high to begin with.
Sideshow don't have a clue what the term 'maquette' means. A maquette is a model for a larger piece of sculpture, created in order to visualise how it might look and to work out approaches and materials for how it might be made. Using the term maquette implies that a larger, fully realised, final piece will be released in the future but as we all know this piece never materialises. Sideshow use the term to charge more money, simple as that!
I thought this too, and was very confused initially. Form what I can tell, and especially after Gem’s explanation, I think they use it a: in the more literal definition of the French word, meaning model, and b: to describe more detailed pieces of either existing larger scale subjects, like movie characters (kind of the reverse of how the traditional art community uses the word), that scaled Down, or highly detailed pieces that COULD be scaled up into 1:1 realizations. I agree though that this was confusing and it seems strange to redefine a word in a subculture of the art community in which the word already has a preexisting meaning.
@@MegaRuley I have a Masters in art and design and maquette is an art term, the definition of maquette is; Sculptor's small preliminary model or sketch. A maquette (French word for scale model, sometimes referred to by the Italian names plastico or modello) is a scale model or rough draft of an unfinished sculpture. An equivalent term is bozzetto, from the Italian word for 'sketch'. A maquette is model for a larger piece of sculpture, created in order to visualise how it might look and to work out approaches and materials for how it might be made. The BSC once described the term as 'an old Hollywood word', what a clown 8-)
After being asked the size, Canale said in the FB group that the new Hulk V Hulkbuster is a Maquette....that didnt clear up anything for me and others on what the size really was. Sideshow as we know has in the pass created 1/4 and 1/5 Maquettes. Its all been blurred and their are no direct lines of difference and or demarkation
@@GemMintCollectibles well whatever size it ends up being, the fact that Canale sculpts are tradionally very big and muscular, ie Darkseid, it will certainly have potential of being a centre piece.
keep going brother. Would love to send you my comic when its finished. I gotta get it copy written but maybe you would be down for that. Had to watch the whole video for your watch time G. #HoldtheReigns
Are the materials use for the figures different tho? Also the Mr Freeze Premium Format looks like their definition of a Maquette so even more confused. Why not just stick to Premium Format and justify the price difference by the size of base and accessories
Gem Mint Collectibles Said no one. You said in the beginning you weren’t doing that wack shit filler garbage. Don’t make me go find the video tape bruh. Lol
Professor Gem laying down the knowledge on us students

Thanks for the rundown.
Answered all my questions in one vid
Great explanation Gem!
Thanks for this info. These terms used to drive me crazy. I’m like what’s the flipping difference. Thanks for breaking it down.
Thanks, Gem MInt.
Great video man! Greetings from Argentina!
Thank you for this video
Hey comics fam thank you for explaining the statue scale is now that makes 100% sense before it didn't make no sense to me thank you so much mentor I do appreciate
All those statues are so awesome. The venom statue is the coolest!! You should definitely make more videos like this

they wont because they have edition sizes...in rare cases, like the Galactus Maquette, there was no ES, but they have yet to make more

should dust them if they arent behind glass.
Thank you for this.

Will you be doing a review of Donny Cates Guardians of the Galaxy?
i was thinking i should...similar to how i did the new daredevil run...because im all caught up now

hi Gem
will you be getting the HARLEEN #1 Black Label ?
yes, just dropped a video with it today
What about a diorama from Sideshow? Where would a diorama be in relation to premiums and maquettes?
pretty sure they call them maquettes...like hulk vs wolverine
@@GemMintCollectibles Right on that's what I figured. Thank you!

Ich danke dir, mein Freund 🤝
What company would you consider the best when it comes to detail?
hmmm maybe Prime 1
That's what I thought, thank you for replying back👍
do maquettes have all the same scale or do they vary depending on the character??? Asking for a friend…

In your opinion my friend you do a lot of statue unveilings what company makes the best statues in your opinion 2020 right now
nice :-) thx a lot

Materials are the same. Mr Freeze being a maquette is confusing too.
Gem Mint Collectibles Now see I was under the impression that Maquette was like statue material. Why not have Premium Format Deluxe or Plus
👌
Great topic Gem. Just don’t do no wack top 10 type shit.
