I've had mine for a week i5/16Gb/256Gb. I upgraded from a Surface Go and am loving it. There is the fan noise but I only notice it kicking in when I'm gaming. I like it's portability around the house and in a bag.
I will stayed with my SF5 512gb, I have the wireless mouse, keyboard and pen and everything works fine since I got it years ago, I was a teacher and it was and excellent tool at that time, used it for teaching videos, conference videos taking notes, Microsoft word and Excel, etc and it is still very modern and portable than most laptops nowadays, now I just use it for taking notes, surf the web and programming and SF5 is still kicking 😊 and it does has a slot for micro SSD card although I never had the need to use it
@@CitizenCoder Yes 💯... Its a good product and for general typing, basic XL work, browsing the Web, watching movies 🎥, and reading 📖 PDF it's excellent. Sorry for replying so late but I just got my first surface pro 5 ,i5,4gb,128gb.I got it second hand for 200 pounds.I had an iPad mini and wanted to invest in something more expensive and was torned between the iPad Pro and surface pro 8 but didn't want to invest straight away.I got 4 hours of battery, not that great but its not new so its understandably, touch screen is great, not as good as the iPad but very closely to the same experience, sound is very laud and clear, file management is far superior to that on ipad .Apps and games are of very low quality, maybe I don't know how to search in Microsoft Store but the apps are very poorly chosen. If you need something on the go,Web browsing, some minimal work and editing then I say go for it as long as you don't spend to much, but If you want something future proof, and work extensive go for a good laptop.
Yes pro 8 better than pro 5. I use my pro 8 for my business. Notetaking, web browsing, watch videos and office 365. 8-9 hours. I do my facetime meeting on my laptop while i take notes on my pro 8
Hi. Does the lower contrast of SP's 8 display bother you? I've found that text is blacker and white background is whiter on SP's 5 display so text is easier to read on SP's 5 display and reading strains my eyes less. The difference in contrast is also visible when watching movies. There are some positives like larger display, 120 hz, no black crush but I would say that for reading the SP's 5 display is better. What do you think?
The battery life isn't incredible (less than advertised), but it isn't horrible either. I'm able to work (teach math) for 3-5 hours without needing to plug in my SP8.
My experience so far has been that the battery life is significantly lower than advertised. I have been able to teach (video call, share screen, OneNote, etc) for at least 3 hours without needing to be plugged in with some battery life left over. I have not yet tested the battery life extensively.
@@saadmultani7251 I haven't tested it out fully in terms of battery life yet. It is definitely better than my SP5 for battery but I don't think you should expect to be able to do 8 hours of work without charging. I can easily do 3 hours though without charging for light ish work. I suggest researching more extensive reviews for the battery life. It is definitely not the reason I upgraded.
@@saadmultani7251 I just did the same upgrade Surface 5 to 8 - my older machine is from 2018 - and as far as I can tell has about the same battery life as the new one - about 4 hours - not impressed!

@RUclipsuseritis yes if youre going to run linux on it since surfacelinux is more compatible with the 5 than any other generation of the surface pro which is why i like the 5. If you don't plan on using linux get a newer version. 7's are pretty cheap but if you get an 8 or a 9 you can use an egpu and play games or use it for things that are gpu dependent. The 5 is still really usable but it's unfortunate that you can't upgrade the storage on them like you can with i think the 7 and above.
Background music is waaaaay to loud, it needs to be shut off. I did not come here to listen to crappy background, I came to hear about the review between the surface pro 5 and 8. Obviously it is a huge upgrade coming from the 5 to the 8. Generations of processors, new cooling in the 8, better battery life, more power, faster and is more up to date with current operating system standards. Pretty much a no brainer.
VIDEO EDIT: The Surface Pro 8 comes with removable SSD and not a micro SD slot (see 5:00 storage section).
