As a beginner photographer who doesn't yet have a full grasp of Lightroom and Photoshop, I believe that using the mouse and keyboard is the best way to get comfortable and once I understand everything and edit a lot faster I would be okay with looking into something like this product
Great review John!! I just finished checking it out myself for my channel and LOVE how it speeds up Photoshop. I don't know about you but making a video review where you had to have one screen capture and one video window showing the manipulation of the controls was a PIA!!! You make it look so easy!!!
I have been a faithful Palette user and while it has its quirks and limitations the broad general statement is yes these devices do enhance the editing experiences.
I'm finally back to getting some work, thinking about saving some money and then John goes does a video of a device I now have to order!!! sigh! But the fact it's under $200 is nice! It's a "I don't have to explain this purchase to the wife price". :-) When the loupedek came out everyone (including me) were saying how it should've been around $200 like this wonderful little device.
lol. I'm sorry. I'm always over here wasting my money. lol. But yes the price of this thing is nice and I think it's just the size to really do great work with. Not too much is going on, and just enough buttons to really speed up the workflow.
Yeah, seems like it's heavily weighted towards adobe, rather than FCPX. I hear mention of Apple, but if it's an afterthought it's probably not prime time for FCPX.
Have you by chance ever tried the Shuttlepro for photo editing? I’m trying to decide between that and the Tourbox as I prefer working with a smaller device
Good Morning John hope all is well. I use the first version of the loupedeck, I'm wondering is the Tourbox would be a better device; it definitely smaller.
James L Manley Jr I haven’t had a chance to use the loupdeck yet however I’ve seen it. I think they’re comparable but the main thing with this is I love how it’s small enough to fit just in one hand and use it like that. In my opinion the loupdeck is getting close to almost being the same as a keyboard. And to me at that point you may as well just use key commenads.
Is it application aware? So it will automatically switch to the preset created for each application when that application is in focus? Or do you have to always switch it to whatever application you want to use manually?
So I've actually never really used just an ultrawide but I've been thinking about it. One thing I couldn't find any information on is with Dual monitors I'm able to have one screen setup with Lightroom and the other with a preview of all of the photos I've selected. It helps a lot when editing images from the same scene. I'm not sure if you can do that with an ultrawide. But I hope to be getting one soon.
Hey Phineas. Benq and Viewsonic make some killer (expensive) color-rich/accurate monitors if you're looking at printing or fine art. If mostly for online posting, then a lot of good quality monitors out there, mostly read the reviews and sales. I heard Benq was coming out with a new ultra wide but I think they changed their mind as i haven't seen it.
Hi there, I am a great fan of your work and love your style. I purchased your Lightroom presets some time ago and have been using them regularly - I love them, however I have noticed that my files seem to half in size when I apply your preset to the DNG files and then export them as j.pegs. I was wondering why this happens - it doesn't seem be the case when I use other presets. I would value your input.
I’m glad you’re liking the preset! The preset shouldn’t be changing the size of images at all. How and where are you editing? Are you editing on an iPad or Phone? Or are you on a computer? Also how are you exporting your images? Generally presets just add setting changes to the image so I’m surprised it would change the size.
@@jbivphotography I am using a computer. I only noticed yesterday when I was exporting 2 sets of the same images - one with your preset and a second with a slightly warmer feel. When I came to upload them into pixieset, I realised that the images with your preset were around half the size of the others - if that makes sense. Generally, it doesn't matter, but if I have cropped the images, it does make them pretty small by the time they are exported. I have tried looking into the myself, but can't work out why it happens.
I just got the bluetooth version a little bit ago and will be checking it out. I liked the first one a lot. Trying to work it into my workflow even more.
Would you use a controller while editing? Why or Why not??
As a beginner photographer who doesn't yet have a full grasp of Lightroom and Photoshop, I believe that using the mouse and keyboard is the best way to get comfortable and once I understand everything and edit a lot faster I would be okay with looking into something like this product
Both programs are more reliant on the mouse, you're not gaining much by using keyboard besides memorizing the hotkeys.
@@OneTradeMan thanks for the input! I would like to memorize the shortcuts I think it would improve work flow. 👍🏾

Looks super useful. I may have to check it out
Nice, I just bought mine using your code! thanks
Awesome! I'm glad I could help you grab one. Thanks!

have you try power keys for lightroom is like pfixer or vsco keys i think is the best way to go
are you able to use it within the Masks module?

Is there a way to use Toolbox for Lightroom curves?
Ooohh. You know I actually haven’t tried that so I’m not sure.
Awesome product John. Will it work on the ipad pro connected to the usb C port?
I don't believe so since it works with the app to run it. However, I am curious to see what happens if I plug it in.
Me too! Pls let us know. Just went iPad Pro to replace the MBP, so it would be great if it is compatible.

Does it work with Lightroom CC?
Will it work as a Gaming controller for my PC?😁
Honestly it might. If you're able to map it to different keys in whatever game you're playing it in. That might be pretty hype actually.
Hi, I think it a great tool, I like it
it’s super awesome. I can’t wait till I’m super fast with it.
Looks like a great tool. Do you find your editing better on two monitors or one ultra wide? Suggestions of model?

You see a bad design approach when lefties are ... left out (pun intended..)
Very helpful, thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I still think they need to redesign it. It's not a good looking device. They released a new Bluetooth version today.
I just got the bluetooth version a little bit ago and will be checking it out. I liked the first one a lot. Trying to work it into my workflow even more.
@@jbivphotography That's nice. I don't like the asthetics. I think they can do a better job at that.
Absolute ripoff for a glorified Xbox controller
