Gone are the days when Henry and FSG actually cared about the Red Sox. I'm just looking forward to new ownership, whenever that will be, to make this team relevant again.
The money is immaterial here. The guy is posting early even though it’d be massively lucrative for him to wait another year. He’s gonna wanna sign with a team with great player development, which puts us more in the conversation than one might imagine. Breslow was out there watching his games this year, which is also a decent way to have a foot in the door. But he’s probably just gonna go to the dodgers anyways because of course he will.
He is my number 1 pick. Get him at all costs. It does not make a difference with what else they do. If the get Crochet and him the winter was a success. They better hope it is after December. If it is after Dec. That would be great and he probably is not going to the Dodgers. I heard he does not want to go to one of the bigger cities. So I would put Boston and Seattle in the mix. I think if they are going to get Crochet, it will be soon. I think November 19th is looming and Chicago may be able to get an extra player by doing it quicker.
Yeah I saw that he doesn’t want to either, I dont know how much stock I really put into that. I feel like if he wanted to be posted this bad he has a plan
@@redseatradio He is actually very smart. He will not get the most money he could have but he gets to choose where he wants to go. He knows he will get his money in a couple years. He is not after money.
Hideo Nomo threw a no-hitter in his first game with the Sox in 2001. However, Yoshida might've played his last game in Boston and that won't help Roki's case for choosing Boston. It also wouldn't surprise me if both of these guys sign with the Dodgers. I predict an AL East division win, if they sign Soto from the Yanks and trade for Crochet or sign a Snell. Just don't force Devers to play 1B.
if Roki gets posted after December 1, the Red Sox need to start acquiring as much extra international bonus pool money as possible and make an offer he cant refuse from that
Thanks again for all of the information. I think Sasaki is the number one pitcher on the market. I would love to see him in Boston but the Red Sox are long shots at best. I think acquring Crochet and Fried are more realistic. However, I wonder what their chances are for them as well?
Don't forget we still have Masa here, and he is a respected player in Japan. The question becomes how much influence will he have on him? We have others who have played here as well. The good point is that no minor leaguers will be needed to close the deal. So what this does I increase the possible options for signing someone which is a good thing. The bad part is the 162 games here so he will be tested to the limits od his stamina.
In Japan field players don't have any influence over pitchers, which is why opinions of Yoshida, Ichiro Suzuki, or Matsui don't matter to them. And Yoshida was playing in Osaka, while Sasaki was playing in Chiba. The person who has the most respect of Japanese pitchers is Yu Darvish. And many pitchers train with or visit Darvish during the off-season. (You can see Senga, Ohtani, etc all training with or visiting Darvish's house in the US when they were younger.) As for Boston, the failure of Matsuzaka was a real tragedy, which is why Japanese pitchers tend to avoid Boston.
So the answer is No! Not because of not being able to match the money or anything but because as 99% of Asian players they stay on the West Coast and he will likely will as well. A few things #1 no way money is the issue... #2 no way he gets posted before Dec 1st most likely on the last possible day (Dec 15th) #3 Its the Lotte (Low-tey) Marines (like the armed forces not like the Seattle Mariners)
@@redseatradio I think the key to this whole thing that no one has thought of is yes he must sign a minor league deal but then he could be signed to a major league extension immediately after. I don't know that anyone has thought about this but why not say hey we have to sign you to this deal but we are willing to extend you for 7,8, whatever years immediately after for $x,xxx,xxx/year then the only one missing out on a payday is his NPB team. I'm not going to say I'm an expert on requirements of MLB contracts but I don't see any reason this couldn't be done. Yeah it makes more of a risk for the MLB team but he's a 23yr world's top 10 pitcher. He would be a world class closer if his time as a starter doesn't work out and we just paid a guy like $20M a year to close for us so offer him an extension with a ton of incentives over 7+ years and catch everyone off guard.
What if they exceed the international cap, pay the luxury tax, and are restricted to a $300,000 signing per player for two years in the international market?
Those Japanese star players signed with Sox when they were a formidable group making the playoffs / these aren’t those Red Sox and won’t be until they actually spend $ and are invested in making the Sox winners again
The only thing I see here is baseball will have a really big competitive balance issue if the Dodgers sign him. The Dodgers were the favorites on paper and the field all year and it wasn’t close.
Not holding my breath. Would love to see it happen… but I think the team needs to continue on with off-season plans as if Sasaki was not in the mix. If it happens, then it is a major cherry on top for the team.
I think if they get crochet theres no reason to get sasaki. They would have Houck, Piveta whitlock, crochet, and bello. Also maybe Max freid and Luis Perales in a couple years.
Hey Corbin. Are you sure this guy is a starting pitcher? The most innings he as ever thrown was 129.1 innings which means he will get shut down for a few weeks next season cause he hasn’t pitched 300 innings in his life
He has actually improved as a pitcher, adding to his repertoire. First, 300 innings in a season is an impossibility in today's game. Very rarely does a starting pitcher thrown 200 innings in a season. On average, it has been about 180-185 innings in a season. Sasaki can definitely do that. He had already been making adjustments, adding off pitches to his repertoire to lessen his dependence on his fastball. Metric-wise his fastball is one of the best in the world. Combine that with his off pitches, he becomes elite.
There's nothing wrong with dreaming big. The Red Sox have a chance and that's what all the teams that want Sasaki have so why not dream big. Dreams are a huge part of life without them life's pretty boring. We just have to keep hoping and relax. In the end it will all come together and the competing part will begi n
I could have told you that you looked ridiculous for the last three years. I believe that the RS have a good chance of resigning O'Neill because the only other right-handed power hitter is Teoscar. The Teoscar sweepskates could get sweep. Sasika is a long shoot given the distance from Japan.
I doubt that he’ll sign with Boston. The upside will be when he signs with LA, there will be other players, that weren’t able to sign with the Dodgers available for Boston to sign.
He would eventually have more financial gain separating himself from Shohei and Yoshi. He goes to the Red Sox or Yankees, he stands to eventually make more in endorsements. Joel Wolfe will be his agent and he's very good in making his clients money. This is a kid foregoing a guaranteed 300M to test himself as to what his worth is. Competing against Ohtani and Yoshi is much more realistic to believe than playing second fiddle to them, therefore, I am leaning towards him not going to the Dodgers. The Padres, Yankees, and Red Sox, as in a way he has connection to these teams one way or the other are all in play.
Anything is possible, however, the LAD have the most money left in their " kitty" for an International signing. Also, why would Roki want to come the BoSox, when the weather / taxes are worst vs LA and the sun is shining every day? And, you get to play with Ohtani.
we cant be letting the dodgers get away with this 😭. man we used to be the teams that every wants to go to. this is just sad😭. i dont see it happening sadly bc henry is doof but at least breslow gives us some hope. he and cora are probably the only bright spots lol
Im sorry but the Red Sox signing Sasaki is like a .00001 % , Just think about it. Why would you sign with a Club that doesn’t want to spend, it makes no sense.
It would be a tragedy if the Dodgers get this guy! It's not good for the game overall if only the Dodgers get the top Japanese players. Not sure if I want the Red Sox going after this guy or not. I'm not really sold on Japanese pitchers, but I'd love to be proved wrong! Another great video Corbin 👍
Yeah I'm not real high on Japanese players. Seems like MLB pays a fortune for players that dont always turn out to be worth the money . We already have one on the team the sox spent $108 million all in and he's just not worth it
@redseatradio yeah I heard that. But that wasn't the point I was making. The sox have won these bidding wars in the past but the players never seem to be worth it. Yes there have been great players from Japan but not for the Sox. Dice k had one great year out of 5(?) . Yes the sox have had some luck with Japanese players but it's veteran players that have already been in the MLB for years (koji). The only thing worse than there record with players from Japan is there record with players from Cuba
Dodgers have the most chance. But, keep in mind if Joel Wolfe, the man handling his transition, is actually going to advise him to take another route. Why play third fiddle to Shohei and Yoshi when you can be the star in a team? Signing Sasaki would give the Dodgers too much financial clout having the top 3 most bankable stars in one team. There have been Japanese stars in teams, but to currently have 3 in one time? Never happened before. With that on note, Yu Darvish is his mentor. He has been seen wearing Padres gear. Masahiro Tanaka is his hero. He practically rooted for the Yankees because of him. His connection with the Red Sox is Yoshida, who was his teammate in the WBC. The Dodgers, the Padres, The Yankees, and the Red Sox have the most chance. A fifth team would be the Phillies. Very likely, one of these teams is his future team.
Corbin, if you want to make some interesting talk and possible, you should be talking about the Red Sox packages up a lot of prospects and getting Tatis (whom I’ve been talking about for two or three years now ) and crochet and sign Max Fried, now that would make them contenders and that’s possible all this other nonsense doesn’t make any sense to talk about Why won’t they give a qualifying offer to Oneil so you’re only on the hook for one season with him? no this could happen if the right deals put together. Sox have been completely irrelevant across baseball for 5 years now. They need to start making some trades and FA signings before he gets posted to show this is a team worth signing with.
Imagine trading for Crochet, signing Roki and signing Max Fried. We would lose Abreu but add 3 aces. Clearly Redsox need to go in the deep end and swim with the sharks and be Jaws!
