  • Made the mistake of shooting with a 2500 base ISO instead of 800. The noise is pretty good although RUclips does a good job of hiding any.
    Shot handheld on the FX30 with a Tamron 17-70 + 6 stop ND filter and standard stabilization.
    cine EI mode (slog 3) / 25p XAVC S-I 4K
    No fancy editing or grading just slapped on a LUT from Topjaw.

    The highlights appear blown on YT, but when I hit the comments and the video darkens, I can clearly see the details of the clouds, sky and brighter areas... weird. Nice shots tho.

    The footage looked great! When shooting in slog cine-ei do you still expose 1.7 - 2 over?

    • @tomseyes
      @tomseyes  Год назад

      It isn't nessesary, and is perhaps oversimplistic because it really all comes down to the scene and what you are shooting from the experience I've had so far. For example in a couple of these shots you'd need a lot of dynamic range, bright highights through to dark shadows, over exposing by +2 on the meter would severely blow all the highlights and nothing would be recoverable. Where as a scene with a lot less dynamic range it could be beneficial to do so in order to get less noise (as long as you don't clip anything that needs recovering) and then just pull down the exposure in post. I think it's better to use zebras and also false colours if you have a monitor and then you can push exposure as much as possible before clipping and then you can recover later...

    why was is it a mistake to shoot with 2500 iso? Isn't that a the 2nd base iso and should not have minimal noise?

    • @tomseyes
      @tomseyes  Год назад +1

      Yeah but considering this was a daytime shoot, I'm adding unnecessary noise to the image even by using 2500 iso. It is the second base iso but it still adds more noise (not that you can notice on RUclips) than the 800 one

    Nice pictures but too over exposed, you should have taken advantage of the camera great dynamic range and exposed it correctly and with a slight grave on edit, nice picture anyway.

    • @tomseyes
      @tomseyes  Год назад +2

      Thanks - yeah I accidently hit the 2500 base ISO instead of 800, so it messed with my exposure a little bit on some shots (I've changed the button now), this was just me getting to grips with the camera and there's always room for improvement. Plus the midday sun can be particularly harsh
