    To show the number of poly you right click the bottom bar and select show scene statistics

    0:50 because tris are better for performance than quads; in fact, if you actually care about performance and are not just interested in the minimum requirements for a VRC performance rating, you should ALWAYS apply the triangulate modifier. Then again, Unity _does_ turn all faces into tris automatically upon import exactly for this reason.

    I recently used Cats decimation plugin sucessfully to make a Quest version by hard decimating the body and clothes that I seperated, rejoined them with the much harder to decimate hair and face and it actually did it quite well while preserving shape keys! If it doesn't have to do the whole body as well it can be great.

    I just dived into avatar creation and You make the best tutorials. Now i have almost everything i need to know.
    I am however unable to find how people are able to use LIGHTS for Quest Avatars.
    I've seen several avatars using it on quest like with lightsabers that light up a dark room. I would love to have a flashlight effect but cant figure out how to add lights FOR QUEST.

      Don't know about Quest specifically but you can add light sources in Unity, Right click anywhere in the hierarchy --> Light --> Spotlight. and parent it onto a flashlight

    EDIT: the number you should keep an eye on is the TRIS not the FACES, Unity counts the Tris as the amount of Polygons on your model.

      This makes sense as I've had avatars hit 35,000 and still only be considered "good"

    Converting tris to quads does not reduce the poly count btw.

    i still have issues with the atlas... i tried so many times but it keeps not working idk what to do, like the materials just move when i create an atlas or at the end i just see all in grey :/

    can you make a tutorial on how to correctly utilize and create "bool parameters"
    if you are unaware vrchat now allows for up to 128 "bytes" and "int/float" parameters take up 8 each. With "bool parameters" you can have up to 128 parameters.

    Hey, my CATs install did not come with the Material Combiner (aka the atlas generator). There is a link in CATs to download it but it leads nowhere. I have something like 13 different materials. Is there a tool in Blender that will let me make the atlas manually?

    This tutorial has been veyr helpful for me when it comes to optimization, but I was wondering if converting all the tris polygons to quads would be detrimental or have any drawbacks? I'm just hesitant since it seems too good to be true, to just remove half of your faces with just a the click of a button.

      After testing it out further, converting tris to quads doesnt seem to matter, but getting rid of any unnecessary tris will help with optimization. The only downside i can think of is it'll obviously impact how detailed your model will look.

    How do I bring a avatar from unity to blender but the avatar file is a unity file

      You need to import the file into Unity and find rce FBX file in your project folder. You can import that into Blender

      oh also, does taking away the triangles mess with the shape keys?

      @@yunasilverstone Exactly, Atlasing your textures means merging them all into one texture file for better optimization. AFAIK changing Tris to Quads has no effect on shape key performance

      @@SanrioLover_E I Installed and tried opening Blender 2.92 and it crashes on startup for me :(

    I have been having a hard time with Blender lately, every time I am about to start something it would crash without any error codes or anything and just fully close. I get lucky if it will say on for 5min as I am working on something before it close itself. Would anyone know how I can fix this? I have tried uninstalling and everything but nothing is working.

      Make sure youre using Blender v2. 83 and the latest version of Cats

      @@Aggrotard I think I already got it fix, was talking to moderators on the blender discord for about an hour and I think we found the problem, thanks anyways. Also I have been using 2.92, is 2.83 better or recommended?

      @@star_king7113 Good to hear, 2.92 has problems with Cats at least for now, also i use 2.83 in all my tutorials and many others do too. It makes it easier to follow along

    75k triangles is pretty good right? I mean it runs on my PC

      Anything above 70k would be considered Poor by the games ranking system but other factor come into play too like Material and Bone count. here's the official documentation: docs.vrchat.com/docs/avatar-performance-ranking-system
