    8 years on, but wanted to add our thanks for posting this. We had the same shifter problem, checked the bushing in the engine side and it was okay. Figured it had to be the other end, but didn't want to go disassembling things before seeing how... so:
    THANKS. Took all of an hour, hour and a half and most of that was fighting around the gear shift.
    Used a rubber bushing/gasket and shaved/cut it down to perfect size, threw a small o ring in there to lock the pin and voila. Saved over $140, not counting the labor or tow.
    Thanks to you... no cost other than some time and sweat.

    I love this guy! Tell it like it is, bro! Thank you for speaking plainly about the "disposable"/built-in obsolescence on most of their parts. However, this looks like something I could even do. Need to look at the shifter cable and see if it's in the front or back. If it's in the front, I'll have to look a little harder online. But you covered me on attaching the cable to the shifter, and how to get to it. Thankyou 5thHorsemanofNAE!!

    Does the shifter Positions have an Interior Light? (In the Center Console) It would be nice to learn how to change it if there is one.

    Hey, you can get the new bushing with an installation kit and warranty at BushingFix.com for like $25. They're better quality than the factory so they last longer too.

    There's 2 times when any car engineer gets praised by their boss. The first time is when they find a way to make the part(s) out of junky vs. sturdy material to save money. The second time is when that junky part BREAKS cuz it's a POS and the consumer has to pay someone to fix it.

      The press button on the shifter knob, you MUST push brake peddle. There is a cable leading to the steering column but that is for the steering wheel wont go into lock if the car not in park.(safety feature)

    Napa Kit #615-1434 there are 2 in the kit, Napa kit#615-1433 there is 1 in the kit, Dorman Kit#14055 there is 1 in the kit, Dorman Kit#14057 there are 2 in the kit. The Napa 615-1434 and the Dorman 14057 are the same kit w/different packaging. They all have parts you wont use. Autozone-Dorman will be the lower cost. Hope this helps. Google these part #'s

    will this cause my key not to able to close and shut off my engine?

    • @5thHorsemanofNAE
      @5thHorsemanofNAE  9 лет назад

      Yes, I think. I f the car will not go back to park.
      If you can shift through the gear modes and its not loose, then that may be a different problem

    • @V_Pie
      @V_Pie 8 лет назад

      +arenaseparabe You can manually move the shifter at the transmission (pull it) to get it back into park so you can turn it off.

    The issue I'm having goes as follows: the car turns on with ease but once I begin to shift out of park the shifter slides through all the gears and the car does not move. Could you method solve the problem?

    The Cable was loose from the Shifter knob to the Linkage. I thought it was the one by the Gear Box, but had to find this video to take the panel off to access the Shifter Cable underneath. Thanks for the video. By the way your looking for Dorman part # 14041 to replace the broken clip inside. Its the 2nd smallest one in the box of all different size clips. I used a pair of LockJaw pliers to tighten it down (After having to shave some of the clip down with a razor) But it fit! And now it shifts better than before. Thx

      Sean Brooks thanks for the reply. good to know for anyone else looking. trouble is, my connector to the trans was a 1$ junkyard part, and the one you see in the video is an old coat hanger. realistically I only spent my time.

      thanks wound up being just a bad ignition switch the lock would not return to original off position and the dials would not work on my cluster. there is a bridge that when you out your key in that comes down and enables you to move the ignition switch. replaced a couple of tumblers on it an done. thanks again
