I didn't really know what the movie was about when I say down to watch, I prefer it that way. It immediately put me into this like visual mood where I was taking in every single detail. My brain was on overdrive thinking everything was there on purpose bc... it had to be. If you're not going to talk, then your cinematic better be talking to me. So, my brain was in overdrive, I was paying more attention than normal, and then lastly, when I'm watching something like that, I'm looking for an introspective journey and boy oh boy is there one. Once Upon a Time in the West
      One of the reasons that made Sergio Leone's cinema great was the way he managed to use sounds and music to immerse the viewer in the scene, furthermore in this film it is even more evident in the protagonist's moments of catharsis.
      Leone always asked Morricone to prepare the music for his films, and this happened before filming even began, Leone did not edit the film with the music, he shot it based on those sounds.
      I would like to think that Paul Thomas Anderson studied the cinema of Sergio Leone and applied some of these characteristics very well in his cinema.

He didn’t tell us anything ab his beliefs until the last day of school 😂.
      But his movies class was the best, like you said we would watch and pause multiple times to discuss. But once he turned it back on you better not make a single noise. Why is this movie genius?

    • @jandro8370
      @jandro8370 4 месяца назад +1

      @Bob-hz6fp to me, Daniel Plainview is a monster in human form. He's like Dracula. The opening scene he's shrouded in darkness looking for the one thing that makes him happy and gives him purpose, which is oil. Oil is his life force. Like blood is to Dracula. He hates people and his sole purpose is to find enough oil so he can become rich and powerful enough to separate himself from society forever. He uses everyone around him, including his own son, to accomplish this goal. Plainview lies to every person whose sitting on oil and promises them great things and delivers on none of it. Its all lies to seperate these people from the wealth that belongs to them and leave them with nothing. When his son gets hurt, he can't care less and attends to the oil first. His son second. When the son becomes a burden, he sends him away. Plainview completely rejects God and anything else that isn't oil. He finally accomplishes his goal and becomes an alcoholic recluse. His son wants to go off on his own and be his own man, and his father takes massive offense and declares him competition and no better than anybody else, even he raised him from a baby and is his father. Plainview is incapable of loving anybody. The preacher comes to him desperate and questioning his own faith in God. The preacher is willing to renounce God and call him a superstition just to get at some of the oil Plainview has been living off of so he can live a life of status and wealth as well. Plainview exposes his hypocrisy and then makes a good on a promise to bury him under the ground figuratively by killing him because he hates him and what he really stands for, which is ultimately nothing.
      The music and cinematography all serves the purpose of driving these points home and nothing else. I could write forever on this topic but I tried to keep it short.

      @cshepard09 he's like a vampire kinda. Like how Dracula needs blood to survive, Plainview needs oil. Not so much to survive but because he hates people and he wants to make enough money to lock himself away from everyone. He accomplishes that and just completely gives up on trying to be apart of the human race. Tells his son to F off, that he never loved him, bustard from a basket. Makes the preacher say there is no God because the preacher forced him to say there was one when he never believed that. Then kills him. U hear the title and think this movie is gonna be bloody and it's not but I think the oil is the blood for Plainview.
