Sarah Michelle Gellar was phenomenal in the role of Kathryn. I remember when I first saw the movie thinking, that cannot be Buffy! She's a great actress.
Gold Rose honestly I think Katherine is waaay more evil than Regina George. Regina never manipulated people into losing their virginity and wasn’t a sadistic drug addict.
@@MsSingingV And Kathrine did all her manipulations in secret. What makes her fall from grace so impactful is that no one knew who she really was until Sebastians journal. As for Regina’s story is one of redemption as everyone knew from the beginning she was a mean girl.
I felt the same way when I first saw this film, but as Sebastian's counterpart from "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" also dies in that story, it kind of makes sense that they'd kill him here off as well.
@@JadenWolf7 True!👍 I've seen an alternative take of Sebastian's death scene, where instead of saving Annette by pushing her out of the way of the car during his brawl with Ronald, he simply sees her from the other side of the road, and gets knocked down while crossing over. This change was likely done to make Sebastian seem more heroic.
To be honest. His death coming out of nowhere is one of the things about this movie that I loved. Just when you think there's hope for a happy ending it's all taken away in an instant.
I really don’t think Kathryn wanted to play Sebastian from the beginning, I think what she did at the end, when she manipulated him, it was to hurt him because she was herself hurt when he chose Annette over her. As she saw him slipping away from her she became scared and bit back. I think we can clearly see in different occasions the human side of Kathryn, even though she tries to suppress it as much as possible.
Why? I legit hated him all movie. And not because of the character, but that drawled monotone voice combined with his smug face. And really, his face (not the silly glasses or the facial expresions the actor chooses to do) is a testament to how well this actor was cast, because it's like a resting-vapid-rich-kid face.
It took me a while to realize that this movie was an updated teen version of "Les Liasions Dangereuses"!😮 It must have been a 90's trend, as "Clueless", "She's All That" and "10 Things I Hate about you also followed a similar format!😸
@@Senate300 "She's All That" is based on George Bernard Shaw's play "Pygmalion", which in turn became the popular musical "My Fair Lady". "Clueless" is an updated, "Valley Girl" version of "Emma" by Jane Austen.
Cruel Intentions.... I think no other movie has shaped my teenage years as much as this one and Bittersweet Symphonie did. I remember watching it on TV secretly when I was like 14 or 15 because my parents thought it's not suited for me..... I watched it eveytime it was on TV since then. I also loved Bittersweet Symphonie from the start, but since I only saw the movie the first time in the early 2000, it wasn't that easy as it is now to get this song. I think it took me like 3 or 4 years to finally get my hands on it, and when I did, I was so damn happy.
Mangan2504 Bittersweet symphony pulled me back into the movie too lol. The whole 90’s teen soundtrack is one of the best put together soundtracks in my opinion, just wish I knew more people that were into this flick
You spoke my mind ... back in 2007-08 I was totally obsessed with Cruel Intentions.. especially Kathryn-Sebastian duo.. I read countless FanFic on this movie
I just watched this and i can confirm that this movie is extremely captivating and sadistic in a good way. I also teared up when he died and when Kathryn was outed.
I love this movie. The music. That love scene with Annette and Sebastian! And the fantastic ending when she is driving away! Still awesome to this day.
Sarah Michelle needed the career that Reese ended up having, she's a phenomenal actress. So underrated. Oh and that scene with Joshua Jackson in his briefs... ooof🤤 lol.
I’m glad that they saved the best for the last. Cruel Intentions’s ending is one of the iconic endings in a Hollywood movie. Kathryn’s humiliation with the bittersweet symphony playing in the background gave me goosebumps.
::sigh:: and typically, the male comes out smelling like roses, while the woman gets stabbed in the heart, despite the fact that they're just as bad as each other.
I love and have this movie!!! Can't believe it's 20 years old!! Happy birthday, Cruel Intentions!!🎉🎊 Especially when the last scene when Kathyrn get what she deserves and Bittersweet Symphony plays. Love the song, even to this day. All time favorite scene.
Even though Ryan Phillippe was hot in this movie, he was never hotter than I Know What You Did Last Summer. He and Sarah Michelle Gellar play a couple in that movie.
I have loved this movie since it’s release. I had just graduated high school and was the same age as most of the characters (actually a couple years younger than the actors real-life ages). This film was and is a classic. Couldn’t agree more with #1...still one of my favorite ‘comeuppance’ scenes ever And I LOVE that you included Ronald’s hilarious “The Black man is gone!!” speech as he leaves Cecile’s parents house after meeting her racist ass mother. That moment is poignant and hilarious
My favorite scene is where Annette makes wierd faces to make Sebastian laugh (I love his smile) /the scene that made me cry (and still does when I watch it) is where Sebastian pushes Annette out of the path of the car just to be hit and die himself.
My favourite movie ever since I watched it for the first time. I think it was about 2010-2011. Yeah, Sarah is amazing, but I focused mostly on Reese and Ryan, they were so perfect together. Whenever I think about the film or listen to the soundtrack - I wanna cry.
The scene with Annette leaving while she remembers Sebastian is the best scene. So glad Kathryn is defamed for her stupid selfish behavior and Annette ends up getting his prized car.
The first time I watched this movie I was 17 years old ; ever since I have been watching again and again more than I could not imagine. What a movie and what a name that translates with the content.
Missed a key part: In the start the therapist yells at her daughter who let Seb take nudie pics, "How could you be so stupid?!" for falling for Seb's cheezy line about killer legs ... which the therapist fell for too.
@@seanhorace925 I always thought that Kathryn should've briefly mentioned it when she convinced Sebastian to awaken Cecile's sexuality. Like had a line of "You know she's surprisingly a good kisser."

Sarah: she is the best part of the movie and two: Reese and Ryan I loved them together and I love watching them in this movie, their love is real since they were in love with each other during the filming of the movie and Reese's cute devil faces that she makes, how can you not love her
I wish Sebastian stayed bad like Kathryn, they're the best thing in the movie. That's not a great movie, but it has a very cool vibe and visuals in general
The only positive thing you can say about "Cruel Intentions 2" is that it starred a young Amy Adams as a younger version of Kathryn, but even SHE isn't too fond of that role!😁
Yes Sebastian was more of a human than Catherine the previous scene before this one where they had to break up with Annette was extremely hard for him and then he finds out that Catherine was just toying with him the entire this is why when she gets exposed after published his journal and everything in it that led to Katherine's ultimate destruction was indeed bittersweet like the song implied plus she caused Sebastian's death I therefore don't give a crap what happened to her she deserved it
I love this movie. Serious, fun, sexy and with a fantastic music score... Remember the first time I rent it on VHS i 99, but I hate it is called Sex Games here in Denmark
Agreed, nothing can top the scene where Annette meets Sebastian at the top of the escalator while a Counting Crows tune plays in the background!😍 However, must will immediately think of Kathryn and Cecile's infamous kiss...👭

Worth of watching this over again like sex!
Something that wasn't in the honorable mentioned was when Cecila got her first sexual experience from Sebastian.
That scene where Kathryn gets what she deserves with The Verve's Bittersweet Symphony playing gives me chills. Absolutely brilliant.
