With today's 3D printers, designers are able to create their own line of figures and toys for proof of concept manufacturing. That's what 3D modeler and animator Michael Herm has done with his Age of Mecha 1/35th scale collectibles--with prototypes he's sent us to check out and review. We chat Michael about his prototyping and design process for creating posable mechs and how his modular approach allows for a variety of striking designs.

Thank you so much for featuring this Norman! It is great that we live in a time when independent toy creators can make things like this that are on-par with the big toy companies. These are really great toys, especially for the price. The detail and articulation are what really brought me in. I sincerely hope this encourages enough backers to reach the goal!
@@Mentocthemindtaker Super excited to back the kickstarter
Adam savage's tested can u pls give away that mech to me pls i live in lindsay California 1010 monte vista st
I've been following this project for almost three years now. I really hope this video helps it reach its goal :)
Same man, they’re coming out soooo nicely
@@iESCAP1SM yip i been following for a long time to, so exciting finally to see KICKSTARTER!!!, whith this exposure, more peeps means its closer to ...one sitting on my shelf ^_^
I hope so too. These figures are so detailed and _easily_ rival anything similar on the market, especially for the price.
@@kyleashley Honestly I want to see some miniature painter let loose on one of these. Some Gun Metal and dry brushing would work wonders on this base
Same, but they've only reached about 32% of their Kickstarter goal, and only have 8 days to go ): I don't think this is gonna be successful
The Funding wasnt succesfull but i feel they should give it another shot!! these figures look amazing! i didnt know these even existed
Those one-off's of Adam and Norm ARE THE BOMB!!!
I'm jumpin' up and down over those.
That's SO MUCH "The Right Stuff" right there!
What did Adam think about them?!?!?!
Hope this gets funded. It's a hefty goal... Been following this dude for years. Can't wait to get my hands on these.
Yeah that jumped at me as well, that goal is very steep. Hope it works out and he understands the trickiness of Kickstarter.
@@VincentGroenewold here's a link to a longer interview explaining in detail the reason for the high funding goal:

Wow, I had already backed this project before this video. The mechs are cool but the eco suits are really intriguing! I hope it reaches the goal! Thanks for showcasing this project.
I've literally just pledged after listening to the creator in a podcast, so great to see it being covered by Tested!
It’s a good day to be a kid at heart!
Oh wow! I wonder if The CrafsMan has heard about these yet. The anime mech style might be a bit tangential, but the snap-on upgrade suit is fantastically practical!
I'm in his group on facebook. You should make a post asking him!!!
I customize toys, and love indie brands! I got Snapships thanks to you guys, so it's cool to see this project (which I contributed to last week) come up here as well!
No imagine once you add lights to this for photography. They look awesome
I love this project, and that Tested is showcasing it here!
love the little Adam and Norm pilots...
Back this project! I have and I'm excited to get my hands on these figures and mechs.
I’m glad it’s finally getting the exposure it deserves, so cool !!!
I love these styles of mecha more cockpits with limbs than the most humanoid designs of Gundam.
I've been following TeccoToys for one or two years now, and I am so excited to finally get my hands on them! I really hope it gets fully funded!
This is epic. Viewers please help make this happen.
Mecha Gods help us reach the goal and get them into our collections! it could be an awesome new series of figures. In fact, there are very few such robots and pilots now, literally one company in China is doing something like this.
Are you referring to JoyToy?
@@Mentocthemindtaker yeah)
B2five is also noteworthy for this in 1/28 scale
is it just me, or do the characters bear a strong resemblance to Norm, and Adam?
nvm lol... guess who commented before the end of the video xD
Funny when i saw it I was like hmmm Adam has his own brand of toys.😂
Shame you didn't put this video out earlier, could have helped with the Kickstarter.
I am sold by the double pilot cockpit. This is great
_and_ it has a hatch for the second crew member to pop his head up!
@@Mentocthemindtaker omg I did not notice. Lots of love was put into the design. Hope they get funded
Been following this project since it began. Everybody light the kickstarter on fire.🔥
It have the feel of Kotobukiya Hexagear model kits. It will look great to have them side by side.
This is so sick can’t wait to see it more
That's amazing!
Only 9 days left on this. Even if you give $5, donate something to this awesome line of mechs. I want these things so badly.
Very cool project. I backed for the Exo suit. With that said, I wish they had a digital/STL tier (maybe with more limited/different models) so we could print them out ourselves. I have an Elgoo Mars Pro that's excellent at printing minis.
Armored core still my favorite mech game
I was hoping the end would have shown Adam gushing over his new figure.
looks so good, i want one too
It was about time for this to get featured.
I hope this gets funded. Really cool
Holy cow, those are great! AND I WAS DOING SO WELL SAVING MONEY. THANKS, NORM. Q_Q
The AoM stuff is NICE!
this is such an inspiring episode
Tus figuras están geniales!! Exitos, saludos desde Argentina 🇦🇷
You should really take a look at the original Maschinen Krieger kits that started this style of mechs. Kow Yokoyama essentially reverse engineered ILM style kit bashing in the 1980s from Japan.
Such an artist
These are great!
I have been following these guys for quite some time now. Hope to find them soon on retail shelves
Man, this makes me wish Hawken was still on PC.
i hope this is helps to reach the goal
Pretty amazing that it's all one guy.
That makes sense the thrusters are held at the angle of takeoff.
omg these are cool
I like your videos, please make more one day builds 👍
shout out to DCON! dont miss on this they are amazing!
And here I am putting together my first gunpla
I don’t have a lot of knowledge on 3d printing but when the mech parts are complete do they appear grey and then you would have to paint them?
Reminds me of the 90s cartoon EXO Squad toys :) love it
I'd love to see what the Gunpla artists could do with one of these.
Very coll...Looks like a JOYTOY's mech.
これ凄いイイな~
日本でも買える様にならんかな・・・
Been seeing this all over the net, before the release of this video.
Oh great! hopefully that means it will get fully funded.
I so want these mechs...
Back the Kickstarter and you _can_ have them! www.kickstarter.com/projects/aom/teccotoys-age-of-mechatm-action-figures-and-vehicles
Cool af
Oh, cool!
I would love to dive right into things like this but with limited funds because of the Pandemic I find myself becoming more and more miserable that I miss out on awesome stuff like this that I was able to afford not so long ago..
don't worry, personal finances come first! you'll be able to enjoy these things when everything goes back to normal soon, hang in there.
good~ good~!
I wish these were 3d printable models
@_@ I hope this gets funded! 10 days to go!
Check out Creature Caster! Some of, if not the most detailed and intricate resin miniatures out there.
yall ever heard of Exo-Squad?
Got over excited. Thought Adam made a legit mech/landmate/power armor.
Because we know it's not beyond him.
The difference is you can buy these - you could _never_ buy a mech if Adam had built it!
Man I was 10 years old way too soon!
I always had hoped that someday would see a full-scale mech being made at (It's Jake's, I know) M5 Industries
Great full 👌💯💕👍❤️☔
Those are awesome. But my favorite is Warhammer!
Games Workshop makes the best plastic mini's and you get a couple of universes to play in and a lot of lore to get invested in.
Heaps of resin kits available on chinese selling platforms at fraction of those costs . . although probs not (quite) as good/detailed as Industria Mechanika kits.
Any advice on the type of plastic you used I’ve been trying to make a figure myself I got 3-D printed figures but I need better plastic and I don’t know what plastic I should be using to make my prototypes i’m kind a new to this whole thing by the way you got excellent looking figures I hope mine look just as good As your does one day
Hi Thomas, I'm using the Formlabs standard grey and white resins and their flexible resin for the rubber parts. I found those to work best for the prototypes.
Fantastic design and esthetics! I would pay X3 $$$ for a 1/18 scale of this! Or even a 1/24!
Once you buy it you can just scale the file down in your slicing software
Take my money already!!!
What do do you get them as figures or do you have to print them out?
1/35 scale is the same size as the Battletech animated series toys from Tycho.
Found this to late to pledge - wonder if selling 3D models to 3D print might be a option..?
@是我 I personally can't make these type of 3D digital models.
Adam Savage can make the things that we can just see in films, his mind is other new level. You are great sir.🤔
Love from India.
Adam didn't make these! They were made by Michael Herm. Go have a look here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/aom/teccotoys-age-of-mechatm-action-figures-and-vehicles
pretty cool, but damn those are expensive. Im not shocked hes not going to reach his funding goal.
Hi Norm,
1.Can you ask Adam to redo his Swiss army display knife. Hé has got 16000+ reactions and its bugging the hell out of most watchers.
2. Great post.
Any more of these kinds of content?
Okay so now I HAVE to get a 3D printer. Does anyone know the software used to design these models??
Maya and Zbrush
You could try to build the Apollo Lunar Lander in 1/35th scale?
Watching Teccotoys has been amazing. Teccotoys on Tested is my instagram peanutbutter in my youtube chocolate. I've already pledged, but I hope more do and the kickstarter is funded.
D.Va and baby D.Va!
I need this figures
Are you painting them with Adam?
whoah
Look at Chris Ramsey’s invisible shield
Yes I will take 45 of everything
I still waiting to buy it every single day
By the way i’m from Vietnam
I miss Titanfall!😭❤️
2:50 Looks like Stan Lee in the middle.
I want one
Back the Kickstarter and you _can_ have one! www.kickstarter.com/projects/aom/teccotoys-age-of-mechatm-action-figures-and-vehicles
Looks very similar to redemptor Dreadnaught/invictor warsuit from Games Workshop
They're very nice mechas.... However, it needs painting and weathering.. even just painting the details like warning decals, lines and chrome for the bolts makes all the difference in the world, please paint it!!!
What if it allows us to customize our own head? wouldn't that be cool?
What do you mean that's a Mec that's a battleborn drone that you just added arms and legs to
This needs some panel lining and small touches of paint definitively in order to get a more displayable figure. But hooray for the initiative.
I have a few ideas I'll license to you so you can win the first "giant bipedal racing robots" cup.
I mean I would help but I assume you live across the states from me.
2:50 those "characters" look familiar. hmmm
