I'll elaborate a bit and tell you how these songs were written. The fellow sitting to the right of Mr.Fripp is my old friend Terry Blankenship. Both Terry and I were accepted to go to the original seminar at Claymont Court in W. Virginia. Terry went, but I was too broke to pay the expenses and you had to get there on your own. When Terry returned he told me every detail of what took place at the seminar. On the first day Mr. Fripp introduced them to the tuning (C-G-D-A-E-G) and explained the basic concepts of the technique he wanted them to use. He then had the group break up into smaller groups of three or four players and they were to write compositions in the new tuning and style. The next morning each group presented their compositions. After they had finished showing the compositions to the entire group Mr. Fripp informed them that they were playing a concert that evening. The material was to be the songs they had written and they then had to learn the compositions as a group. On the third day Robert informed them that they were playing another performance that evening. I am not sure, but he might have also had them write new material for that show as well. The songs on the first League of Crafty Guitarists LP was a "best of" compilation of these songs. Somewhere I have a 90 minute cassette of all of the songs they wrote. I can't promise that I could find it any more. Also, they used the Ovation guitars at Robert's request and I can't recall if you were supposed to buy one before attending the seminar or not. The guitars all had custom built DI boxes built by Audio and Design (Recording) Ltd. and the sound you hear is almost all from those DIs except for the AKG C24 stereo mic which Tony Arnold was also using.
LOL I was there and you weren't! Now, if I was making this up wouldn't I tell the story and say that I WAS able to afford to go? In truth, it was all along time ago, but I will tell you something that will put the timeframe into perspective... while I didn't go to Fripp's seminar I did end up working on a Stephen King movie instead (making money and not spending money.) The movie was the really crumby "Maximum Overdrive." With the money I made operating the camera crane on that movie I bought a recording studio with a friend. About a year later, Tony Arnold (he recorded the video here, most of the The Crafty's stuff as well and Fripp and Summers' stuff... I advance Masked, etc...) came over to the US (Texas where I live) and produced an album for my friend Terry Blankenship (the guy to Fripp's immediate right.) I still communicate with Tony, but I only rarely talk with Terry.
I wish that I could find it, but I have literally hundreds and hundreds of cassette tapes from that era. I have moved my studio four or five times over the last thirty years, so that tape could be anywhere. If I do stumble across it I will post it, but I don't have time to go track it down. That was all another time and era in my life.
In 1981 I was at all three nights of King Crimson's run at the Savoy in New York, the first time that legendary lineup played in NY, and on the last night, during the encore, Fripp stood up during his solo. Everyone went crazy. Still one of the most powerful moments of my life.
I was at the show at Georgetown University’s Gaston Hall, possibly the youngest member of the audience. Arriving slightly late, the guitarists were already playing and as I approached, I can only describe the sound from the exterior of the hall as something akin to a harpsichord in 4D. When Robert stood up and played, it was one of the most amazing and unforgettable experiences I felt as a member of an audience. At that moment, the energy in the room was one spirit and intense. The feeling of connection was definitely palpable... magic happened
For years I thought Lotus Feet played by McLaughlin and Coryell was the most perfect, exquisite, expression of the best that mankind can give us all, but this matches it. Fabulous. I've listened to Lotus feet on and off for 35 years. This will also now be with me for the next 20 or so. I know you know you know, but deepest thanks Robert Fripp.
Recently i have found a Compact Cassette, bought after a concert of L.C.G. in Mestre (I) in 1989, that i thought lost..."Get Crafty I" Impossible find it in the web...i think one the best performance of music of all the time.
I have that cassette too. Got it at the Iron Horse in Massachusetts at a LoCG performance. Before the show all the guitarists were warming up discretely in corners here and there. I went to take a piss downstairs, and in the urinal next to me was Fripp, not pissing but playing scales...
Look at Fripp 4 minutes in, after standing he seated ; literally hanging off his stool he solos with The energy of his collective, those assembled around him playing such a choir to the gods. It's not so much when he stands, but twixt the final moments where he sits and sees what he has created. Pure energy and love flows through these movements
Robert Fripp is an amazing Guitar player - just read an article where he interviewed John Mclaughlin very interesting!! you could tell they both have alot of respect for each other - both amazing gutarist in there own respect! cool video!!
I have this album from when it first came out. I had no idea there was video of this session. I just took a shot here on you u-tube. This was always my favorite track. Thanks.
I did not go to see this at Georgetown in 1986. Mistake, but I went to so many great shows. As a huge fan of all music it just was not possible to see them all. I did well, but there are a few I regret not going to. This was one of them.
Curious to know what year this is from. At 5:14 It sounds so 2000s symphonic black metal mixed with the weird syncopations of Louis Andriessen. So cool.
probably somewhere between '87 and '95. it's funny how people bash Ovation guitars for not having a fat classical sound while they are perfect for this style of ensemble/minimal performances. you might enjoy the "Robert Fripp and the league of crafty guitarists: Show of Hands" and the "Robert Fripp string quintet: the bridge between" albums.
ovation guitars are holding these guys down because Ovation makes the craft of playing so very difficult:its like playing a slippery fish if you dont have a strap to keep it from sliding away from you.
Because this is the most confortable guitar available. It sound a little bit crispy but it´s easiest to play for hours on that guitar than on traditional acoustic guitars.

Screw MJ's first moonwalk. Fripp standing while playing is the biggest televised move in history.
If that's the biggest televised move in history, what to make of him dancing Swan Lake in a tutu???
This piece calls for standing, unless he was in a really comfortable rocking chair from 1836 !
@@synholliday1936 lol 😆
Wow! Fripp standing while playing the guitar! He was probably trying to throw his students off their game! 😅
Fripp standing up was the most shocking event in history after the Hiroshima bombings
The guitar rose on its own and Robert had to follow it to keep playing.
chemoelectric ❤️
He would probably strongly agree with this imagery.
The guitar was being sent to heaven by Fripp’s playing
swap Guitar for "music", and Fripp would agree. That's kind of how he described it.
Holy crap..I was at this.....He did indeed stand up. Scared the hell outta me.
Where was this taken and when?

+dbbubba1 Sounds pretty convincing... But it is internet so i am not really sure :0. Nice story thou.
+dbbubba1 Очень итересно. Спасибо
please hunt down that cassette and upload the tracks to mediafire or something
It's your duty, pls do it for Fripp fans everywhere

He built delay and chorus pedal using real guitarists.
And a looper
Acoustic Frippertronics
Now i just need Frippin to Frippistan (Acapella)@@mavallarino
The energy when he stands up is tremendous...
Here is a great musician who wasn't destroyed by the excesses of the 60's and the 70's.
Fripp? What are you doing? Sit down.
Lol at rock concerts where he's expected to play standed he sits. And at a classical performance where he's expected to sit he goes do this. Lol.
maybe that's why he does it. Just to piss fools off XD
He just likes to be contrary and create confusion.
robert fripp a dit qu'il lui arrivait parfois de bouger les oreilles quand il entendait un solo d'adrian belew!!

He's standing with his Ovation!
Fripp and the League are inspiring.
Gotta go play my guitar for hours now.
I hope you improved a lot by now!
what a great composition. i felt like im in space, stars around me, flying free.
robert fripp is a legend.
That moment when you see Fripp stand up for the first time!
Shame it cuts off at the end. . . There pieces on here that aren't on any of the official recordings. This is a real find, thanks!
My god! Fripp is standing!
I think this is first time I've seen Fripp stand up.
This is just as crazy as when David Gilmour did some head banging in his youth.

@@cellardoor199991 oh man...that early floyd
I almost fainted when he stood up...whew...didn't see that coming...

wow, possibly the happiest I have ever seen Robert, where the music is soaring and he chooses to follow it....
I haven't seen this for about ten years but it's something I'll never forget. Exceptional.
First song is Tight Muscle Party At Love Beach from "The League of Crafty Guitarists Live" , 1986
My god... he stands after all
This video is fake.
Robert stood up. He never does that.
Some of the greatest work of our time has come from this gentleman. It's all about the music and it's completely unique.
*Everybody is standing to play
Fripp: *"I sit"*
*Everybody is sitting down to play
Fripp: *"It's time to STAND"*
So glad to see this back up. I wish the rest of it was too.
Recently i have found a Compact Cassette, bought after a concert of L.C.G. in Mestre (I) in 1989, that i thought lost..."Get Crafty I" Impossible find it in the web...i think one the best performance of music of all the time.

Wow, this is an absolute recording! Astounding performance from a standing still Fripp
Quite simply the most beautiful thing Robert has ever stood up for

When you like your own comment without realising .... Fripps da bomb
He can barely sit up straight after it. Different level of euphoria right there.
Robert Fripp is an amazing Guitar player - just read an article where he interviewed John Mclaughlin very interesting!! you could tell they both have alot of respect for each other - both amazing gutarist in there own respect! cool video!!

Simply beautiful.
I have this album from when it first came out. I had no idea there was video of this session. I just took a shot here on you u-tube. This was always my favorite track. Thanks.
I saw San Francisco's version of the League. Was amazed at the complexity of this music. Fripp never disapoints.
When Fripp stands up the world sits down.
and not only that, but SWAYING TO THE MUSIC....!!!!!!
This is the second vid that I see of this crafty guitar players and Fripp... And it's A M A Z I N G
I cried... Ths was Gorgeous!!
thank god piezo pickups have become unpopular.
It's weird because I see a lot of mics in the room but his guitar sounds like garbage. They should have just used a spot mic.
To bardzo ładne. Podnosi nastrój od rana. A i tak Robert jest the best nawet teraz z tą dziewczyną
Robert Fripp, bearer of the Sacred Mullet.
I was looking for a guitarist from earlier days and Fripp is the man - delightful
I had bought this on LP when it came out and I really liked it. It is unbelievable to me that it was captured in film too...
Very, very crafty humor Michael and Chemo. Nicely done.
robert hermano gracias por ser quien eres

Who would've believed it? An indicator of his comfort level, that he can stand up. \m/
Frank Conte It's 'Guitar Craft Theme I: Invocation' - time 5:21.
He's a great guitar player quit hating half you can't even play a guitar but I'm sure you can play the slobber boogie on a skin flute rock on me Fripp
From the court of the acoustic guitarists brilliant & different again Mr Fripp.
Is this a song by any chance? So amazing.
Shake my left hand man it's close to my heart !
You know There is going to be some Chaos when robert fripp stand out of his stool
There use to be the full performance of this up here on RUclips, about 2 or 3 years ago. Haven't seen it since.
It’s completely weird, but soulful and true at the same moment…which is weird indeed.
Qué sentimiento¡¡¡....apartir de 0:45 es como estar volando hacia el cielo o via lactea ...grande FRIPP
Spent my youth listening to Crimson, Saw this act at Bacchanal San Diego
I saw this group in the 80's but I never saw Fripp get so carried away!

I know the "secret tuning" got it from "Guitarcraft" by Eric Tamm, one the seminar students 1985 era. Great book...
Because this is the most confortable guitar available. It sound a little bit crispy but it´s easiest to play for hours on that guitar than on traditional acoustic guitars.
Something to do with the material and pickup being useful for the C-G-D-A-E-G tuning they use.
and the man stands up =D
I heart Robert Fripp.
Fantastic
Fully agree. If you some time get him, share what was the catch.
Sublime, amazing
@DillyBansal It's the song Friday, by Rebecca Black

wow what a great song. i think i might go get that right now...
Wait...I thought Fripp was paralyzed?
What would make you think that?
LOL!
@@mattekudasai8249 He never stands up in concerts lol

Scientists wonder how the universe began. Well, it began at 2:25 when when Robert Fripp stood up out of his chair while playing.

@Miraclis Thank you
I wonder if the parents had any idea who it was that was teaching their sons. One of the greatest musicians ever!
I’m pretty sure everyone in the group are adults.

The beginning sounds like Math Metal to me =)
what's the name of track in 0:45 minute? its beautiful
