I'm a Korean subscriber to David. I'm writing because Linkin Park fans seem to have some misunderstandings. I'm personally very satisfied with this song, Heavy is the Crown. I'm sure there are people who don't like rock genre music. The problem is not the music. It's the MV. I just want to start by saying that the part that T1 fans criticize about the MV is never because the music is bad. Worlds is a festival of LOL fans all over the world and a dream stage for LOL professional gamers. Last year's Worlds theme song impressed many LOL fans by portraying Deft's life as a professional gamer with music called GODS. And T1 endured the worst and became LCK's last hope, defeating all four LPL teams, and winning a dramatic championship in seven years since 2016. For LOL, Faker is an icon of Esport with recognized character and title. Personally, it's a shame, but honestly, it's still touching to see Faker, an old man who is about to retire, lifting the trophy after seven years. Most T1 fans and LOL fans would have thought that this year's 2024 Worlds theme song would also be an MV depicting Faker's life like last year's GODS. Unfortunately, the story ended with a short mural at the beginning. Overall, when the MV is in progress, there are many evaluations that Linkin Park appears between the battle scenes of the players and breaks the flow, and last year's champion T1 struggles with the challengers. Also, the difficulty of recognizing the faces of Asian players is also being addressed as a problem. As an Asian, I saw Bin for the first time and thought he was Deft, and I think Chovy also looks so similar that others later let me know that it's Chovy. I'm writing to tell you that the fan-made MV of Heavy is the Crown continues to be produced in Korea, and it's never a matter of music. I don't know if Linkin Park was involved in the MV production, but they are not at fault. I think Riot, who failed to revive the expectations of T1 fans and LOL fans, is a bit disappointing. There is no way a song has to be made for T1, but I think the biggest issue in this situation is the regret that I can repay Faker, who won the title in seven years. I'm sorry to make you read a long article.
I know nothing about League of Legends, but it's crazy the gamble they took by making Linkin Park create their anthem. That video and whole process clearly took months to achieve, so Riot Games had no idea how the public's reaction was gonna be towards their new singer, their first release of a song and first live show in 7 years. It could have flopped so bad. Fantastic result.
Absolutely happy LP being in it for sure, but I would say they're in just a bit too much. I adore LP but halfway through it keeps cutting between them just playing instruments and the dope action and it was a little much. But its a small gripe, some people are making it out to be much worse than it is. Otherwise absolute peak, song is 10/10 tho It was hard af for RIOT tbf as its two huge moments for two different communities. LP fans having them drop a new album, new band member, even being in a video game MV is mega huge LOL Esports (especially T1 fans) having T1 win worlds after years, Faker winning it again and being the face of the esport, perhaps ZOFGK's last run this year as a team Balancing that is impossible for RIOT as league fans will want less LP and LP fans would be happy af with how much they're in it
Asians and even the players in this video suffer to find face model identify. When you look at the reaction video, most of them look at glasses or hair color to identify it.
As an asian myself, I have to say, most asian people look similar, particularly ones from the same nationality, lol. Maybe asians should do what animes do, give each asian person different colored hair and hair styles, while keeping similar facial features (ex: Nami from One Piece). 😂
Most intelligent reaction I’ve seen so far…I think riots move payed off..they put Linkin Park for this to gather more viewers and its working..I’m an LP fan and a dota player but I know who faker is..hell I don’t play LOL but I’m interested on the upcoming Worlds just because of this..
the song is great but the music video together is awesome. yeah its advertising LoL worlds 24 but the fact all the people in the vid are real, the music, the action... dear GOD i wish i could download this vid. i had to fight my own battle with amazon music to buy this track too. why they make it so hard to avoid the most environmentally damaging form of media, streaming?
Happy for you, LP fans and everyone enjoying this. I definitely side on the not a fan side but music's subjective like that. The upset fan part of this to me comes down to a few things, some in and some not in Riot's full control 1. Linkin Park Featured. Yes the OG band is big all around but the unfortunate timing for Riot is that this 2.0 version has a big cloud over them. So the 2.0 version being featured when public perception is generally down on them is something Riot couldnt control but helps fans be displeased. 2. T1/Faker have never won a worlds in the era where the MV could be dedicated for them. They finally did so general perception going in was that it was their time to shine. The story of last years worlds W was as good as Defts or Ambition's so to many why should it not be the drive of the video like Deft/Ambition. 3. I will admit I was ignorant to this but the Asian face animation seems also to be hitting the asian fans pretty bad. It's just extra gasoline for a section of fans that already were upset LP was more featured than T1.
It's actually fine to not have the video be centered solely around T1's story from last year, there have only really been 2 anthems/videos dedicated to telling a player/team's story so it really isn't the standard that people are making it out to be. Furthermore, while it would have been cool to see it told in the mv, we also got multiple documentaries and an in game event celebrating Faker and T1's achievement. We aren't really starved for T1 winning 2023 content. Also, the purpose of the music videos are the same as the half time show at the super bowl, bring in a musician and created a performance that generates new eyes to the product. Which is what this was aiming and honestly achieved.
Heavy is the crown sounds similar to Starwalkin in the sense that both songs were chosen as the Worlds Anthem created by another artist, but weren't produced specifically for LoL Worlds so people don't see a lot of connection between those 2 songs and LoL Worlds. Whereas the songs created specifically for LoL Worlds like Rise, Take Over, Legends Never Die, and Gods tend to gain more favor with general LoL fans because they were created for LoL Worlds to begin with. I think Heavy is the Crown is a good song but I don't see it as a LoL Worlds Anthem song. Riot should've learned from Starwalkin and create a new song for Worlds to celebrate the game and players instead of picking one from another artist.
Strange, for me, Heavy is the Crowns lyrics fit really well with Faker and T1's situation, defending their crown (their World Champion status and legacy). Though I will agree with you about Star Walkin', lol.
Every year people like to create controversy and complain about the Worlds Anthem.. Sometimes the video is good but complain the song is mid and not hype enough, this year the song is hype but the video is the problem. You can never please everybody, and from Riot's point of view.. heavy is the crown.
Gods is as cookie-cutter of a Riot pop song as you can get No way the repetition of gods gods gods gods gods gods on K/DA type beat would ever be above this for me
@@DavidSzajnuk Fair point. I liked the lofty, orchestral feeling of those high notes (like "woah these guys are absolute Gods and watching them is like going to church"), and the storytelling was nice. Plus Korean band playing a song celebrating a Korean team (DRX), while it was T1 vs. the LPL late in Worlds 2023 in Korea - it felt like it came together nicely, even if a little "cookie-cutter" (not denying that lol)
@@heneralg I'm just here for new LP but now had to go and check out this other song y'all talking about and maybe I'm showing my age here but where was the energy compared to Heavy is the Crown? As an anthem to hype people up for competition I can't get on board with a very basic pop tune. Good on them for trying different styles I guess.
8:45 ive watched some reaction, and most of the LP fans are just taking it as a LP song and not the extension of it being the official anthem of Worlds.
That's fine, for them it should be. They aren't league players so if this happens to get them to check it out then great, but otherwise it's still their thing as well
I agree that it's fine that way. I have been a League player since 2012 and was really into Linkin Park since Hybrid theory and Meteora days. While the song doesn't really have that world's anthem sound It is still very hype track and because I am part of both those worlds I feel in a way it kind of sounds like an anthem for both Worlds 2024 and Linkin Park and their new beginnings with Emily taking on the Heavy Crow that is the place where Chester once stood so to speak.
nope unless if you are an LP fan, it feels like riot hyping LP new song and their so called new era rather than hyping the upcoming worlds championship
@@faanvugeincynicalassassin the song itself is good, but the mv is kind of meh, the lack of narrative of what happen last worlds as well as putting some random player that was not even qualify this year and not only that the majority characters on mv is look like deft lmao. i was surprised that people (mostly koreans) don't like LP in the video. It's worlds anthem and not tribute video for T1. LP will perfom on worlds. They have full rights to be in that video. Also they blend with action perfectly! So many cool transitions between scenes!
@@ljmax8693 Korean music is not just Kpop. They have a very active rock and metal scene and have had since the US Army was stationed there in the 1950's. Unlike Kpop they dont do English lyrics and they dont give a shit about the Grammys so you've never heard it.
I think the reason why people are so upset about Linkin Park being shown so much in this video is that it feels very similar to Rise, but Rise was fully cinematic with no artist shown. This feels similar, but also has a theme of Linkin Park restarting as a band rather than being fully about the League Pros. I think in general most people like the song, but are mentioning ways it could have been even better.
Entirely different IMO, it's closer to Burn it all down than anything else. Rise is telling a story of something that has already happened, but this is a projection of what is to come. The problem with the community reaction is that many are trying to force Riot just do the same thing year over year in telling the prior year's story. Because it's T1, that is amplified 10x this year. The "it could have been better by doing x" argument only works if everyone agrees and not everyone is a T1 fan or wants that.
@@DavidSzajnuk Totally agree with this take, I think this is also gonna bring in a huge amount of new audience Linkin Park fanbase is absolutely massive. They gonna watch this and be like huh maybe i should check this out and learn more about it.
@@DavidSzajnuk I just mean in terms of art style. I get what you're saying, but even then in Burn It All Down you don't see the artist in the music video. This one just feels like they put too much emphasis on Linkin Park in a music video about the professional League of Legends championship tournament. And I said all pros, not just T1. It would've been cool to see even more pros in the video too imo. I think the music itself is a banger. There's a fan made video going around where the only time they show the band is showing her scream towards the end, and imo it's just an overall better video because you're watching more uninterrupted animated fighting.
i havent been able to latch on to this worlds anthem like other songs. i have no problem with the video showing off linkin park but something about the song just stops me from latching on to it as I've done with past riot songs. still a decent song just no where near my top worlds songs
If it's not your style like it won't be for many, that's going to be why and it's fine. For those of us that love Linkin Park, Sleep Token, etc then this is going to be amazing

Did it have to be that way? and Let's talk about all asian player facial modeling why they all look like Deft?? and why LP commented "My crown" on official video and make peolple angry? in conclusion, song itself is OK but MV is full of bullshit and racism
As an asian person myself, I have to say that Deft is the stereotypical template for what most asians look like, lol. Maybe asians should do what animes do, give each asian person a different colored hair and hair styles, while keeping similar facial features. 😂
The reason why koreans are mad is that they expected the mv like rise that praise legendary player and faker absolutely deserved it. However what riot made was typical mv with awkward asian modeling seems like racism
Ah yes LCK fans are upset that Faker didn't get a full music video in addition to the 45 minutes documentary that he got for himself and the 2 hour long Red Bull documentary that showed their journey this year. People can eat their cake while letting the rest of us have something as well
yeah you have a point but deft also got documentary from riot and worlds mv for his 8 years struggling and I believe faker also deserve it too. and please can you tell me your opinion about Asian modeling problem that it all looks same like deft. It feels like racism for Asian
LOL Koreans. Y'all men have the same style and don't lie. It's mushroom hairstyle, glasses and a baseball cap. Shirts and trousers and sneakers. Don't blame the creative directors of racism look in the mirror. Btw go play a real game like Dota or CS 😂😂
@@구재연-m9e you can't compare deft who never got a thing vs Faker who has been milked dry this year I agree with the asian modeling issue as I couldn't tell the players apart. Racism? I wouldn't go that far but it's not my place to speak on that specific part of it
@@DavidSzajnuk The racism claim is hilarious because they fully ignore Massu is Iraqi (and thus even asian too!) but they lump him in with "the whites" for their narrative to make sense.
I think it's good but there's just so much wasted potential. Besides the solid 45-ish seconds of wasted screentime just showing Linkin Park singing, Riot had in their hands one of the most insane storylines. A roster that continued to fall at the final hurdle over and over again in game 5s of MSI, Worlds '22, and domestically, then losing their org's iconic player, suffering loss after loss, only to rise back up again with Faker's return, making it to Worlds, being the LCK's last hope, and closing out the 1v4 vs the LPL... ...but instead they just do a generic "defending the crown" story that couldve been done for any other team. Just so much wasted potential with the MV. Love the song though :>
@@Pyxyty we had a full 90 minutes with faker in his Hall of Legends moment and Riot knew the red bull doc was coming that would highlight T1 as a whole I have no issue personally with this story not being all about T1. @@PyxytyAnd Waka Waka was a World Cup song for soccer, yet the dancing and artist are celebrated as much as the game because it speaks to culture beyond the game itself which the league community has always lacked.
Otherwise absolute peak, song is 10/10 tho
It was hard af for RIOT tbf as its two huge moments for two different communities.
LP fans having them drop a new album, new band member, even being in a video game MV is mega huge
LOL Esports (especially T1 fans) having T1 win worlds after years, Faker winning it again and being the face of the esport, perhaps ZOFGK's last run this year as a team
Balancing that is impossible for RIOT as league fans will want less LP and LP fans would be happy af with how much they're in it
Heavy is the 👑!!!!
I think both song and mv are amazing...
But even though I'm a fan of Chovy, I didn't even realize he was in the music video.😂
Most intelligent reaction I’ve seen so far…I think riots move payed off..they put Linkin Park for this to gather more viewers and its working..I’m an LP fan and a dota player but I know who faker is..hell I don’t play LOL but I’m interested on the upcoming Worlds just because of this..
faker aura... ♾
the song is great but the music video together is awesome. yeah its advertising LoL worlds 24 but the fact all the people in the vid are real, the music, the action... dear GOD i wish i could download this vid. i had to fight my own battle with amazon music to buy this track too. why they make it so hard to avoid the most environmentally damaging form of media, streaming?
Happy for you, LP fans and everyone enjoying this. I definitely side on the not a fan side but music's subjective like that.
The upset fan part of this to me comes down to a few things, some in and some not in Riot's full control
It's just extra gasoline for a section of fans that already were upset LP was more featured than T1.
agree
As an Asian person myself, I feel asians don't like to admit that most Asians look similar to each other, particularly ones of the same nationality.
People are salty about the band because theyre used to Chibi KDA if there isnt a furry for them they will complain
It’s okay that you think that.
@@adrianomel man what a perfect way to word it
Amazingly said. I agree!
There's no way this goes harder than "Gods", but it was good
Gods is as cookie-cutter of a Riot pop song as you can get
No way the repetition of gods gods gods gods gods gods on K/DA type beat would ever be above this for me
@@DavidSzajnuk Fair point.
I heared the song. My goodness, it's just another KPOP song that is not replayable.
LOL dumbest thing I've heard. Go play Dota noob 😂
The only Worlds Anthem without music video 😢
nope unless if you are an LP fan, it feels like riot hyping LP new song and their so called new era rather than hyping the upcoming worlds championship
As both an OG Linkin Park fan, and a strong fan of League, this song and video was absolutely amazing!
@@faanvugeincynicalassassin the song itself is good, but the mv is kind of meh, the lack of narrative of what happen last worlds as well as putting some random player that was not even qualify this year and not only that the majority characters on mv is look like deft lmao. The mv this year is the lowest rating specially on this region china and korea where the mass and majority of views came from that keep league relevant.
As an asian myself, I have to say, most asian people look similar, particularly ones from the same nationality, lol. Deft is just the stereotypical looking asian person.
Maybe asians should do what animes do, give each asian person different colored hair and hair styles, while keeping similar facial features (ex: Nami from One Piece). 😂
In any case, as a LoL and PL fan, I'm just happy to get the best of both worlds with this collab. ^_^
i was surprised that people (mostly koreans) don't like LP in the video. It's worlds anthem and not tribute video for T1. LP will perfom on worlds. They have full rights to be in that video. Also they blend with action perfectly! So many cool transitions between scenes!
Koreans just mad because they didn't get to Collab with black pink LOL
@@aliefacmal hahah so true. Little heavier music and they get scared
@@aliefacmal Did it make you feel better to insult all Koreans with your racist sneer?
@@ljmax8693 Korean music is not just Kpop. They have a very active rock and metal scene and have had since the US Army was stationed there in the 1950's.
Unlike Kpop they dont do English lyrics and they dont give a shit about the Grammys so you've never heard it.
@@DarkMatter1962 thank you for your portion of knowledge :>
For those of us that love Linkin Park, Sleep Token, etc then this is going to be amazing
is it LP's promorion video???
why LP& new vocal's screen time is that much?
Did it have to be that way?
and Let's talk about all asian player facial modeling
why they all look like Deft??
and why LP commented "My crown" on official video and make peolple angry?
in conclusion, song itself is OK but MV is full of bullshit and racism
talk about reaching lmao
As an asian person myself, I have to say that Deft is the stereotypical template for what most asians look like, lol.
Maybe asians should do what animes do, give each asian person a different colored hair and hair styles, while keeping similar facial features. 😂
you know that LP is one of the biggest bands in the world right? Try to get them making a song for you without giving them any credits.
@@구재연-m9e you can't compare deft who never got a thing vs Faker who has been milked dry this year
I agree with the asian modeling issue as I couldn't tell the players apart.
@@Pyxyty we had a full 90 minutes with faker in his Hall of Legends moment and Riot knew the red bull doc was coming that would highlight T1 as a whole
I have no issue personally with this story not being all about T1. As for the band, I’d say look at how much Shakira was in Waka Waka. Doesn’t bother me, it’s LP and it just serves to show how insane it is that we got them for Worlds
@@DavidSzajnuk That's a fair enough point with how there have been so many docus alread covering T1, not even counting yet the Retrospecto though that covers their org history more broadly.
I don't get your point with Waka Waka and Shakira though xD I mean, it's a Worlds song. Maybe I'm somehow missing one but I can't remember a single time where a Worlds song featured its artist more than it did the freakin GOAT.
Imagine how much less impact GODS MV woulda had if every few seconds they had to show New Jeans dancing. I think it's just weird to not highlight the teams and players for the entire MV.
@@PyxytyAnd Waka Waka was a World Cup song for soccer, yet the dancing and artist are celebrated as much as the game because it speaks to culture beyond the game itself which the league community has always lacked.
Again, the gods comparison is different because you're telling a story of years past vs predicting the future. Yes, it's a problem if the band comes in and is forcing major portions of the story to be cut out. Here, they are not cutting out anything. It's a made up story about T1 defending the throne meant to build hype and does exactly that.
@@DavidSzajnuk You have very valid points, but I just genuinely can't see myself thinking that it wouldn't have been better if there was full focus on teams and players, especially after I watched a rushed edit removing LP's clips and seeing how much better it flowed and how much easier it was to understand what was happening.
But I digress, I've said what I wanted. I acknowledge your view, but I'll just have to agree to disagree and I hope that's ok :)
But hey, all the power to LP. Big fan of the new vocalist and she did so well in the song.
