For the new pyros joining this hobby, this fuse is usually used for making quickmatch because of blackmatch's easily ignitable surface, when used as delay fuse you must be careful when lighting it, always avoid putting & lighting blackmatch that's pointed upwards, so the sparks don't fall on the rest of the blackmatch piece. Also, use longer pieces that you'll have a bunch when making it with this cheap yarn. Safety first pyros :)

Hi M&D! Great video (as always). It is true that Ned Gorsky produces this type of fuse. Many Italian pyrotechnicians have always used this method, even by weaving more threads together and then immersing them in the bp. Then of course they make fast fuses by putting them in small kraft paper tubes of 1 cm in diameter and using them for quick ignitions. But I think you know this too !! ;)) In my opinion this type of fuse, however, is good for large caliber shells because in small caliber ones (2 inches per cue) they make an edge that ruin the perfect cylindrical shape of the shell and that either leave a wide space between the mortar and the shell or have a hard time getting inside. Sure you have problems with shells of 2 inches or less. However, these fuses are very resistant and still suitable for all uses. Great video and great explanation !!! Ah, and finally a good feast of cherries, which I already see beautiful red !!! Greetings from Italy !! Fire this way !! Alex.

Make & Destroy I have heard that nitrocellulose varnish is added to the composition. The wick becomes stronger and slightly waterproof. What do you think?

The old recipe uses clothing starch, not water. It comes premixed instead of powder. 300g liquid starch to 500g BP. After stringing it up, wipe more slurry on it twice.

My grandma had similar powder for clothes, but I never heard of premixed liquid. Aldo I might be interested how stiff it can get the string haha, thanks for sharing

Nice video but i have a question about the sulfur based stars you made a long time ago (i think it was 50:30:20 kno3 sulfur bp), im also trying to make them but i cant seem to find a prime that lights them reliably so what did you use in your video?

  • @xXnxanatorXx

Made some and it didnt turn out well im prolly going to 3d design a resevoir container that the string can exit while the container hold the composition in it while the end is a cone shape so it would let the cotton through while providing just enough composition to cover the string.

    • @Michael-rg7mx

I wondered that. Dry the blackmatch then string it up and paint. You can buy Nitro cellulose lacquer paint for guitars. I think that auto paint stores could mix your color. They may have old lacquer as well.
