Nice. I've done it with a fence stretcher board and a single cumalong, but this looks better because you can do the top separate. I have plenty of ratchet straps so I can do more if I need to. Thanks.
Great idea. You might also be able to get away with just one ratchet strap by creating a yoke that attaches to the single strap more or less midway between the two fence pulling positions. That way you get a fairly uniform pull on both top and bottom as you draw the single ratchet tighter.
@@johnshanahan6439 The amount of tension doesn't change from one strap or two. It's only limited by the ability of the operator to pull tight enough, and the strength ratings.
Your stretcher can be improved upon.... Two 2x6's with five bolts with fender washers will sandwich the wire in-between... Add a chain-cable-strap top and bottom to create a "V"... Use a come-a-long as it will allow you to pull the slack out verses the short pull of ratchet straps... This can be used at any point along a run...
OR If you have an old fence that is sagging, use the claw end of a hammer, slide over top wire and twist a little. Then just work down to the bottom. Basically kink the wire to tension it. You will do this in multiple places till desired tension is reached. The deer mess our fences up and they require this method to eliminate sagging. Well done, sirs !
Thank you! I didn’t even think of this. I’m getting ready to do a fence here in a month or so and would have spent way too long figuring out how to tighten the fence.
I just use two pieces of 2x4 cut the same length as the fence. Drill 5 or 6 holes that match completely through both boards . Sandwich the wire between tho boards and bolt them together clamping the boards down on the wire. This way it doesn't damage the wire and it will hold good enough to pull your coner post out of the grpund, i only did that once and learned not to get it that tight lol. I use the red top wire with 2x4 squares but this will work on any size and any height.
Wish i had a penny for every foot of fence i pulled, something like this. I used a "T-post, log chain, & truck bumper hitch." Did you know the weight of your truck will hold the fence tight while you nail the entire run? I didn't have a come-along back then & was working alone. Nice job, friend.😊
If he ran out of room on the ratchets (reel filled up). He tied off the stretcher with ropes to the post. Release the straps Unrolled the ratchet straps. Put the strap hooks back on the stretcher and continue to stretch.
I am using this method in the next few days., but using pound-in tposts. The idea of putting a temporary "stretcher post" beyond the tpost, should give me that guitar string you were playing there. Beautiful. Thank you.
I used something like this but also used a board with a couple hooks screwed in the end to hook the fence without threading the metal and used a comalong atattched to the board same principle different techniquie iguess...same outcome...i see fences like this that look like crap all bent up but yours looks great i bet under tension it might even keep a car out of your field if it were to run off road
Very nice fence ,would love to be able to do mine similar ,but how deep did you put the wooden poles in the ground ? and with what did you dig the holes ?
Genuis saves $35. I was gonna diy one with some wood and bolts but shi bolts ain't cheap be close to cost to buy the stretcher perfect piece metal in mind
When I used to install fences like this me and my box used two 2x4s the same height of the fence and drill 6 holes in each 2x4 and used bolt and nuts tighten to the point where the fence is tight and sandwiched in the middle and stretch it with a chain or ratchet like this never thought about doing how you did great work
@@RedBeardedBuilder well, something close anyway. it was a tight fit. The key is for it to be strong enough to take the pressure. A pipe would probably have worked better but you use what you have sometimes. We were able to unroll almost the entire roll of fencing at once and stretch it tight.
Cowboy50, my post have not moved. The fence seems to have become a little ripply though. I wasn't able to get a great stretch. I used 2x4 welded wire. I'll bet it's more crucial with no climb, but this was my first o'fence, lol, and it does a good job of keeping wanted traffic out
Pretty smart I have seen some other ways before but this is the easiest I have seen and evry real man has some tie downs laying around for in his truck at all times 😂
Same but different on my end, I’d take 2 equal 2x4 sections and sandwich the fence, run 8-12 screws into each other, wrap the straps around the wood and do the same thing
what spacing do you have for the wood posts? can I do this like 10-15' apart and then use t posts in between so I don't have to use so many 4x4s?@@RedBeardedBuilder
Mistake peoppe make if it's un intentional is not spacing the fence off the ground. For string trimming for larger animals . It's such a pain to trim around that fence when it's low like that uses extra string and a lot of extra time
that looks ok on flat ground what about hilly ground it's alot easier to staple up snug by hand then come back and use your claw hammer and put little bends in it alot quicker and just as tight

Haha the most relatable part of this is not being able to get through a sentence without the little one trying to get your attention 🤣
Definitely how it goes around here! lol wouldn’t change it though!
Make good use of that attention and time while you can - they grow up fast and you won't be the center of their world forever.

I'm doing this tomorrow. The tip is much appreciated. Cheers from the UK.

True. But you'll get more tension with two straps. Plus a bit more control.

That fence will be sagging loose in no time you don’t have any brace posts at the end and them post will just move
I had an old gate pole laying around, and it worked great. Thank you!!!

This is amazing. Simple and efficient. Running my goat fence in the next week or so, and 100% doing this.
I always just pull it with the tractor or my pickup truck & I go past the last post so the whole thing can be fastened.
That’s definitely one way to do it!
I do the same, but then use the ratchet straps to the tractor to fine tune the stretch.
@Carnie74 done that before myself. Also use a come-along puller or the winch on a side by side.
No doubt bout it
THANK YOU! Finally some advice I can use

I really love how im not the only one with posts 2 feet higher than the fence...most of those posts will have motion solar lights attached.
We cut them off after the install
This is how I did all my fences. Surprised to see someone else doing it too.
Pretty good!

We stick a 4x4 through the hole, secured it, then attached that to a truck and pulled it tight. Much easier, much quicker.

Cute little helper.
thanks for the tip. but i new that hillbili
Some people don’t though!
As long as the staples will hold all that tension you're good to go.
But you need an H post set up to make sure you have a good anchor point. One H at each end. For long runs, several along the way
How many along the way? I'm doing 250' ?
Same but different on my end, I’d take 2 equal 2x4 sections and sandwich the fence, run 8-12 screws into each other, wrap the straps around the wood and do the same thing
It will only stay tight if your strainer assemblies are good and your horses don't rub their butts on the posts. Good luck with that .😉🇦🇺
Thats smart & easily accessible
Is there a longer more detailed video? Love what I’m see so far!
Next time I do fencing I’ll try and make you one?

If you’re doing more than one use a fence stretcher. They are $50 new probably $10 to rent and save a ton of headache.
I don’t do many fences. But probably a great investment
I wish i saw your video before i purchaces a field fence stretcher that cosr $87.
It’s been out a while! Simple but effective!
that looks ok on flat ground what about hilly ground it's alot easier to staple up snug by hand then come back and use your claw hammer and put little bends in it alot quicker and just as tight
Ain't gonna stay tight. Need you some railroad ties for corners and black Locust post instead of store bought post 😅

Doesn't matter what you. Welded wire will be tore up within 2 to 3 years with animals. Opt for wire panels. Much better.
just pulling posts over if you don't build properly braced ends and corners.
Ratchet straps are frigin the best
My Mexican neighbors did this with a 12 pack and 2 guys.
Appreciate it big fella 👍
Definitely need brace post on each end and depending on the length, middle also
I Never would have thought about that
😊
Always put the fence inside the enclosure so your livestock will not push it off.
We put wood planks around it
It won't stay tight but a couple of days you did not brace off the Post you started with.
