  • Eric Miyashiro joined us live to answer your questions! Eric was born to an American father and Japanese mother in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father was a professional trumpet player with the world-famous Royal Hawaiian Band; his mother was a professional dancer from Tokyo. Eric was highly influenced by his father and from early childhood took interest in his playing. Miyashiro began to study music in early grade school and achieved a level of mastery by 8th grade sufficient for his father to give him a set of trumpets (Eb, D, and a Bb Piccolo trumpet). It gave him an early start with baroque-type high register classical trumpet parts. Today Eric Miyashiro is an internationally acclaimed first call trumpet player living in Tokyo. Eric is well known as a powerhouse lead player but he is also a first call classical symphonic musician. Eric is comfortable playing all idioms. He is a Yamaha Performing Artist, clinician and he helped design the Yamaha YTR-8340EM Miyashiro model trumpet. Eric was featured on Episode #19 of our trumpet podcast, The Other Side of the Bell. 😨😳 revelation of the night while watching this interview: Eric doesn't think too much about 👅 arching ???! So there are many ways to master the 🎺. I ve ways struggle with arching my tongue due to lack of personal teacher. I guess, Eric is just a NATURAL 🤷🏾‍♂️😎👄👏👏👏

Tongue Arching is just one facet of playing dude. Eric is a self taught player which means he's just had records and live inspiration as well as a ridiculous amount of trial and error finding what works for his particular set up. The most important thing is having an audible image of what you want your playing to sound like. :)

@@andrewhemsworth8115 Eric been playing professionally (especially lead) before 18! , I doubt he had too many "trials and errors " it's either you have it or don't
