I think you did a great job of taking the time to itemize the games that helped lift us up...that was a really great effort..kudos to you....let's go second half...a word on Pete...People wear blinders on ..they remember the not so good performances, and ignore the joy he brought to us fans....there are intangibles that Pete brings apart from hitting the long balls...Pete deserves to be a lifetime Met...trade him and they will regret it not long after.. just my take

@Vijay...Agree 100% on your takes on both Evan's points, as well as on Pete Alonso. Pete will stay and is likely to outperform his to-date 2024 performance, thereby helping these 2024 METS make the Wild Card and possibly go all the way

When Jett is older and he sees his dad slowing down with age, I expect he'll change his mind about telling you to calm down your giddy bursts in celebration. And he'll cherish your excitement and shared memories watching the Mets together. But for now, I can understand little Jett wanting calm and stability from his dad, the core of his world.

Evan, once again you hit it squarely on the head...!!! A great example of an improbable win is the only shutout of the season when the METS beat the Nationals 7 - 0 on July 11th. Notable not for the shutout per se, but because both Peterson and Ottavino got out of jams by striking out all three WAS batters in those respective innings. During the down run, and especially in May, a game like this with 5 WAS base runners in the two innings would have led to a nail-biter, or even a loss, instead of the shutout the METS recorded that day.
"Recency Bias", or what has just happened will continue to happen, is part of human nature. Of course, that is not at all useful in baseball since baseball is clearly a game of Streaks (+) and Slumps (-), meaning things can and do change purely on the basis of statistical probabilities "evening-out" over time, especially if the subject(s) are WAaay under performing, i.e. Lindor @ .191 BA, or the 2024 METS @ 22 -33 when this team's roster is clearly superior to the 2022's METS 101 - 61 regular season final record (never minding that 2022 METS crashed out of playoffs in 2022 quickly, likely meaning the 2022 METS were not quite as good as their 101 wins may have suggested at the time).
When I made my "estimation" (NOT prediction) at the end of May that these 2024 METS would end up winning approximately 88 - 89 games, I was ridiculed on Joe Benigno's Saturday broadcast, with a follow-up caller even suggesting "that guy Stan should be drug tested...". I also called Tiki, Shaun and Loogy when you were in London that Friday for the METS vs PHI 2-game match-up which I had a great deal of interest in, especially as the games were hosted @ The London Stadium, home of my beloved West Ham United FC (been a fan since England with Sir Trevor Brooking, a legendary West Ham and England midfielder, played Italy in Yankee Stadium as part of the Bicentennial celebrations in 1976). Tiki understood my analysis completely and recognized the mathematical science term of statistical "smoothing", sometimes also known as "returning to the mean". Kudos to Loogy also for never giving up hope in these 2024 METS
But, what I suggested was not some fandom wild-eyed irrational hope. First of all, I am a Red Sox fan since 1967 which is actually useful when thinking about the METS in a dispassionate way. Secondly, I believe this METS roster is slightly stronger than 2022's team. Since 2022 regular season ended @ a .623 Winning %, and the 2024 METS were languishing 11 games under .500 @ .400 Winning %, it was not hard to envision 88 - 89 wins from there because it would require a .617 Winning % over the then remaining 107 games - a VERY achievable feat.
Since then the METS have actually played to a record of 27 - 13, a .675 Winning % and the best in MLB over that stretch. What is now required is a record of 39 - 28 through the end of this regular season, a .582 clip the rest of the way. With Senga and Marte returning, giving the METS arguably among the best starting pitching and overall offense in MLB, not to mention even the once-vulnerable bullpen being shored up by Diaz and the emergence of Butto and Nunez, these METS are fully capable of getting to and winning the 2024 World Series - TEX vs ARI let us all know that any team making the playoffs in MLB can win it all.
Perhaps these METS will fulfill my dream of a 1986 World Series rematch between the Red Sox and METS, or there can even be a Subway Series with the Yankees - who are only 1 game out of 1st place in the AL East and 18 games over .500, despite their ugly performance since 49 - 21, a dismal .321 since the peak with a 9 - 19 record over the last 28 games - but just as the METS will likely not play .675 ball the rest of the way, the Yankees are highly unlikely to play .321 ball over their last 64 games.
Baseball is all in the #s, and the statistical probabilities those #s represent, even though powerful emotions overwhelm our logic when it comes to being a fan. Which is why I call my outlooks "estimations", instead of predictions.
Be well & All the Love...
