You can see him shaking, that's either him in pure rage as a super saiyan or because he's betrayed himself as a person but had to do it because frieza would never change, probably both.
Which is why this scene should have actually been the death scene for Frieza because it's captures everything so perfectly that Frieza is legitimately the first person that Goku ever killed especially in rage. Because out all the enemies and people that Goku had encountered in his life he never kills them because doesn't believe in killing and the people who he let's go or had an impact in their lives always change for the better. Because we seen that with Yamcha, Killin, Tien, Piccolo, Vegeta (even though it took him darn 10 years to do so) and etc. But Frieza was the perfect example that not everyone can change, you can't change wickedness. So that's his death scene here was so perfect and made Goku reflect on himself because he literally had no choice but to do it.
@@ixitalicshadow4136 I agree 100%. But I also thought it was a fitting end to Namek. It was predator vs prey the whole time the z fighters were on that planet trying to get the dragon balls while being hunted by the enemy. Super Saiyan Goku was painted almost as the unlikely savage/brutal apex predator, that comes out of the middle of nowhere and flips the script.
@@FrankMaster73 You're right because it was mostly about survival and a race to the finish for Gohan and Krillin when they first arrived on planet Namek trying to find and do whatever it takes to get all the dragon balls and to complete their mission by wishing everyone back to life that died in the Saiyan saga. And the part with the Super Saiyan. Well through out the show they were always talking about it and hinting that a Super Saiyan may or not exist because it was to believe that it was fantasy legend or rare they to achieve. And if anyone ever becomes a Super Saiyan anyone can have unimaginable power. But at the time Frieza actually believed it and got scared a little because the Saiyans kept talking about it and he believed that a Super Saiyan could possibly defeat him. That is why he killed all of them so none of that can happen and of course Bardock try to rebel and save them all. Then it finally happened when Goku actually became one and the legend turn out true. So honestly I believe it was actually meant happened from the direction it was going and it all fit perfectly with the Super Saiyan coming into place.
Goku in very end, never fought to kill, only to test his limits. fact his hand is shaking, he didn't like what he had to do. Yet fact he did what he did, avenged all of his people who died that day, Frieza destroyed the planet.
Such a great scene. Goku is one of those few characters that would rather settle things with peace rather than death. Freiza challenged Goku's moral values, and ended up pushing Goku into finally destroying him. Yes we all know Freiza lives, but I love the expression afterwards on Goku's face as well as him clenching his fists. This shows all the frustration that has built up in him, and makes him ponder, "Could everything have been resolved on Namek with killing? Could he have saved everyone he loved by just executing one monster?" Folks, that's not just a mindless action scene, that's great writing!
Except in past conflicts he's done the same things with no qualms about it. :/ Officer Black, just fine blowing him up inside his Battle Jacket King Piccolo, just fine punching a hole through him Raditz, showed no qualms getting him killed by Piccolo's cannon Vegeta, only spared him from Krillin because he wanted a rematch later with a fellow Saiyan The reason he expresses distress somewhat is because he shot Frieza out of rage (or confused why Frieza would refuse his mercy twice), while with the others he felt a sense of duty to protect the planet. (though he did kill out of revenge when confronting Tambourine the second time). Toriyama is far from being a great writer, but it's entertaining. However more often than not, Goku is fine with killing if it means preserving peace, he's no Batman.

If I wrote DBZ, this would've defeated Frieza, thus making Goku realize Vegeta was right all along and that some people don't ever change and don't deserve favors.
This was where the story was supposed to end with Goku diving shortly after being unable to escape the planet. But fans didn't want the story to end so it continued.
Frieza survived, sure he would have eventually bled out and died while floating in space with no energy or means to stabilize his injuries, butKing Cold finding him so quickly is the only reason Frieza lived, so in a court of law Goku would not be charged with murder here, he would get assault and battering at most if he plead it was in self defense.
While all of this is true, it's just a tv show and if there are literally magic balls that can bring people back from the dead so involving criminal justice is kinda pointlesd
It would've been better if Frieza stayed dead. And and Cooler and King Cold came instead of Frieza to earth to avenge his death and Trunks finishes him off.
I wish this was friezas death. It was a great climax and the expression in gokus face was so powerful. He didn't look like a man who had won. Even after everything frieza had done he still didn't want to kill him and took no joy in doing it. I didn't like the fight with trunks and everything else they did with frieza afterwards, they basically made a joke of what was an amazing villain.
1:30 The part with the water filling frieza's watery grave is so iconic to me, and etched into my mind where if i see water pouring into a central spot like that, this scene pops into my head.
I think what this scene gets across to you besides the obvious is that Goku does not understand Frieza. He doesn't understand that Frieza feels literally nothing for all those he has killed and that he will never stop trying to bring down Goku if left alive (unless there is a huge change of the status-quo like in Super). This view of "inner good" worked on Piccolo and Vegeta, but Frieza is the example of extending an olive branch multiple times while the other party only ever intends to light it on fire in hopes of killing you. It is one of the reasons Goku and Frieza are such iconic rivals, Goku can never truly understand what Frieza really is because he doesn't think that way.
I honestly don't get how Frieza honestly survived this, I mean I understand Goku gave him enough energy to live but once Frieza got hit with Goku's final attack he should have been finished. maybe the attack alone wouldn't have finished him off but it definitely would have brought Frieza hanging on to life by a thread. The planet exploding should have at least the final nail in Frieza's coffin. I just think Frieza surviving this was kinda bs.
Goku never wanted to kill, so i guess he used enough power to knock frieza unconcious. He had enough power to kill frieza but he chose not to (he also needed some energy to maintain his super saiyan form and escape the explosion)
Pretty sure namek was the last season and episodes to be made. But they later extended dbz ; this was the real death of frezia and later goku dying on namek . This ending was probably to epic to change or mess with :p
Southean During the cell saga its explained that cell also has frieza's dna which makes him nearly impossible to kill. Frieza's race is known for being able to survive in the harshest extremes while basically lifeless. That's how cell is able to destroy himself and come back again.
It was the greatest. No other fight came close. When you think about it, not just anime. In ANY cartoon genre. Name one cartoon that had a better fight
This is the greatest fight in anime history. Goku and Frieza fighting while the planet is exploding. Frieza defiant till the end. Goku trying to escape the planet as it explodes. Everything about this fight was epic in the true sense of the word
I love this scene. I love it not because Goku finally finished Frieza in one of the greatest fights in DBZ history. I love it because it transforms Goku emotionally. His shaking hand, and the broken look in his eyes shows us that Goku fired that blast to kill Frieza. Goku never wanted to kill anyone, but for some reason he never seemed the same after this fight. No doubt in my mind it would have been a wonderful ending, but the creator had other plans that were just as awesome.
John Smith I agree 100%, I think it is because this is the first time in the entire run of the series that Goku ever fought someone who was truly beyond redemption, Goku has always had a knack for seeing the good in people, but for Goku to encounter a being so wicked and evil that even Goku himself wanted to see him dead must have effected Goku to his very soul.
Frieza: I am mighty and you are not! Frieza. He broke your hand, elbowed you in your stomach, broke your back, slapped you, and even cut you in half. When will you realize he's better than you?
Never, apparently. Even in death, Frieza obsessed over nothing else but destroying Goku for the humiliation of his defeat. His ego will never allow him to accept that a Saiyan could surpass him in power.
They drew goku angry here instead of sad like the manga but you can tell he's still in shock from "killing" frieza from the way he's twitching. I miss z's attention to detail
Frieza is actually a fool for trying that sneak attack. He was so prideful in that moment that he forgot the logical way to kill Goku. The blast that Frieza shot was probably not as powerful as it could’ve been because he’s body was cut in half. So instead of leaving and fighting another day, he reacted childishly.
I just love frieza’s delusion of him saying “you can’t win because I am mighty an you are not!” While he’s floating with literally only 20% of his body 😭
Well King Cold did warn Frieza about Buu and Beerus long ago and even those two appeared later, King Cold who is stronger than Frieza was mentioned before this fight.
Ok...I get your point but still though there are people that are stronger than him like King Cold, his mother...etc and those were mentioned before this fight in Z
This just proves that if you give someone else another chance or too many, they can turn their back on you, betray, and even hurt you. Gotta be careful.
I remember as a kid me and my friends randomly found clips of Dragon Ball and loved it, we bought the game on Ps2 but weren't good enough to get this far. We knew the basic's of the show but we never knew who won between Frieza and Goku, all we found were clips of the fight or clips before it, we'd talk in a group trying to find out what happened until I finally found a video like this and it was one of the greatest moments of my life.
What I imagine Goku was thinking after that: “Why did he have to do that? We could’ve made each other so much stronger. Why did he have to throw that away? Why did someone so strong have to be so evil? It’s just… such a waste.”
1:59 in the manga here Goku's face has a sadder look compared to the anime, making you realize he was actually sad to have had to finish off Frieza in the state he was in, the anime gives him a more determined look instead.
Goku is actually furious with HIMSELF here aswell, and it’s all in his body language after the ki blast. He stays there, motionless, just looking at the blasts crater, as his hand shakes and then balls into a fist. Goku hates to take life (and thought he’d killed Frieza, we know with hindsight he survived) and despite his enemy being pure evil, he knew it had to be done. Now in DBS he’s just like “lol hey Frieza I know you commit universe-wide genocide, but wanna be friends and fight together in a tournament with a few people you killed?!” LOL
honestly, the fight between goku and frieza is one of the best fights in dbz, and it showed in how goku is an amazing character in this series because even after frieza killed his best friend krillin, he still showed a bit of sympathy to frieza and even gave him some energy for him to stay alive, but of course... frieza was a complete dumbass in wanting to still kill goku after saving him from dying. goku then saw that it's useless to redeem frieza, so he had to kill him with all his power. everytime i hear goku yell "YOU FOOL!!!!" it just gives me chills, i can totally hear how upset and angry he feels when he sees that frieza still wants to kill him.
Oh God it looks so beautiful, love this 1080p had remaster, but all and all frieza wasn't exaggerating when he said he only trained for a short while with king cold, like cell and buu were no where near this level of desperation,as they still had their full power available.Frieza on the other hand was so fucking ingorant, that like a child he was completely oblivious to his situation and fully gave in to his emotions like he has been doing his entire life.Awesome righting there Tori
THIS is Frieza's fate. Not playing anti hero for some kind of payoff, not coming back in some shiny form just to be outclassed in 5 seconds. THIS, is how Frieza's tale truly ended. Bested by the one thing he despised. A Saiyan. Cold hard end.
Frieza's damn tough, he's already lost half his body, being cut in half, gets blasted and even survives Namek's explosion. He's also damn stubborn. Unbelieveble that even when aided by Goku's portion of energy he still believes he can win. Unbelieveble, the most thick-headed villain, even more desperate and obstinate than Super Buu (who didn't want to admit Vegito was better).
It was mentioned that Frieza’s race can survive ANY injury. The only way they can be killed is by obliterating their body completely. This is also how Cell survived his own self Destruction, because of Frieza’s genes.
he did not want to kill Frieza. just like Vegeta, he saw Frieza as a great training partner. Goku believed if he showed mercy that Frieza would change his ways. However, not even Frieza could be reasoned with and Goku had to kill him. I think he's trembling after the fact because for the first time in his life he had to kill somebody he wanted to let live
Another thing that I loved about the Buu Saga is that it brought back characters from the original Dragonball, like Upa, Bora, Suno, Android 8, Nam, Giran, and Launch, and they all offered their energy to the Spirit Bomb, That was a SPECTACULAR finale to the series.
I actually like the older version a little more because in that one Goku dragged the 'YOU FOOL!!' longer and that is one of my favourite lines of all time
This was such an amazing scene when it first aired. Such a satisfying conclusion to such an incredible, epic battle. This really should have been the end of the story. At the very least, it should have been the end of Frieza. Having him come back from this only to get killed in seconds by Trunks feels so cheap. That huge, long fight, that incredible struggle between Goku and Frieza, all for nothing in the end because Trunks just breezes on in and kills him like a fly. It's sad. Frieza was a truly fantastic villain and he deserved a good death, which this scene would have been.
He really resisted trying to kill Frieza right until the end, because that was the first time he killed someone, Goku was always a pure soul so ending someones life wasn't in his nature. You can see that it tore him up inside after.
@@pariahdark1892 and let’s be real real fans started off with Dragon Ball not Dragon Ball Z And people that start it off with Dragon ball Z most see it in Cartoon Network or play the video games where they don’t show Dragon Ball first Oh, and FYI grandpa Gohan was showing a lot of times in Dragon Ball When he visit Goku in 24 hours and at the time king piccolo the father of piccolo was birthing a lot of children aka Piccolo’s brothers, they was killing Goku friends like a motherfucker Goku never lost someone before that’s why he was on some revenge shit I think when Dragon Ball Z came out and realize he’s not from earth. I think he grew and realize all creatures deserve a second chance And he was maturing like first before he realize he’s not from earth he spared piccolo and I don’t think he did it because he see good in him I think he did it because he don’t want Kamui killed because otherwise Goku would’ve finished a job think about it in dragon ball Goku was catching a lot of bodies
That super subtle fist tremor than to a closed fist is great. Knowing him it was the tremor saying I didn’t want to kill him. The close fist was, I had to.
They should've just given Goku the kill, to be honest. Frieza surviving and going to Earth, only to be killed by Trunks did nothing to build on the plot. Trunks would have likely came to this timeline to warn everybody about the Androids, whether Frieza was still alive or not.

cooler isn't canon
Dr. Autism God but he could have been, Broly wasn’t canon till they decided they wanted him to be.

yup...
Jazzy Guy it sounded better in dbz kai
Nah, this sounds much better.
David Turner I wish an image of Bardock was shown behind Goku as he kills Frieza with his angry Kamehameha.
It was his death, but since fans wanted more dbz, Akira Keep on working and then mecha frieza appeared
David Turner You should see how much of joke they made Frieza out to be in the Tournament of Power 😂
agreed...
They also make goku look like an idiot when he keeps letting frieza live. Especially since he could kill him at any time with mastered UI
That theme still brings chills from hearing it
1:30 The part with the water filling frieza's watery grave is so iconic to me, and etched into my mind where if i see water pouring into a central spot like that, this scene pops into my head.
Dude is literally 1/3 of a person, and he's still tryna kill Goku lol
Ignorance is bliss
@@eatmyshorts7973 More like delusion and denial that he was no match for Goku.
That was for bardock!
XD
That was for krillin, his mental brother. Krillin made his life better.
Agreed💯
1:58 That face is probably the only time someone's said _"look what you made me do"_ with genuine remorse.
That's how cell is able to destroy himself and come back again.
pacefka also, Piccolo's regeneration.
pacefka saiyan dna comes in handy too when it comes to zenkai boost/power ups.

LITERALLY ONE OF THE GREATEST FIGHTS IN ANIME HISTORY
Not one the greatest
IT IS THE GREATEST FIGHT EVER IN ANIME HISTORY!!!
Dat final look on goku is so emotional. Its one of the few times when i actually felt for the character.
This Was Hands Down The Best Fight In ANIME History!! #Facts 👌💯
Frieza: I am mighty and you are not!
Frieza. He broke your hand, elbowed you in your stomach, broke your back, slapped you, and even cut you in half. When will you realize he's better than you?
Lol just so arrogant from all his years of conquering that a mere saiyan crippled him so badly.
Lol
To be fair, Frieza cut himself in half.
Never, apparently. Even in death, Frieza obsessed over nothing else but destroying Goku for the humiliation of his defeat. His ego will never allow him to accept that a Saiyan could surpass him in power.
"broke your back, slapped you..." Ayo.
That's the same music played when Gohan obliterates Cell for good
Its the sound of a saga ending :p
And when Goku kills Buu
It is known as "Ginyu Transformation Theme"
"Ginyu Transformation Theme", written by Bruce Faulconer.
Man you can really feel the power of Gokus yell when he fires that blast and hearing that Iconic ginyu theme tops it off
They drew goku angry here instead of sad like the manga but you can tell he's still in shock from "killing" frieza from the way he's twitching. I miss z's attention to detail
Frieza was blinded by rage to understand. Obv.
and ego
1:02 Frieza: "Wait, why is Ginyu's Body Change music playing? He's no where in sigh-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!"
The death music I will never forget, even to this day it was epic.
0:15 Frieza the most powerful bean in the universe!
indeed
Did he forget Beerus?
Well King Cold did warn Frieza about Buu and Beerus long ago and even those two appeared later, King Cold who is stronger than Frieza was mentioned before this fight.
+Bardock SSJ3 He said that in the RoF movie which was created 19 years after Z.
So no, you're wrong.
Ok...I get your point but still though there are people that are stronger than him like King Cold, his mother...etc and those were mentioned before this fight in Z
Watching this after seeing the Bardock special really makes you feel so good
This just proves that if you give someone else another chance or too many, they can turn their back on you, betray, and even hurt you.

One of the greatest fights in anime history.
It’s strange how goku is acting like he regrets how it ended but in dragonball kid goku was a straight up killer
It's called growth
What if that made him think about it too much? :P Well I don't think goku thinks too much anyway xD
He was a kid
This is my favourite battle it went on for ages
Holy crap I just realized the same theme plays when Gohan kills Cell.
+ Majin Buu destroys earth, Cell kills Piccolo and Goku launch spirit bomb first time to Majin Buu.
What’s the name of the theme?
@@anutheamaranth7433 Captain ginyu transform theme
when goku’s hand shook, that indicates that he couldn’t bring himself to kill his foe but frieza left him no choice.
“YOU FOOL YOU THINK YOU HAVE WON?!?”
As he floats there missing more then half his body.
The anger on gokus face right before he screams "you fool!" Gives me chills every time.
What I imagine Goku was thinking after that: “Why did he have to do that? We could’ve made each other so much stronger. Why did he have to throw that away? Why did someone so strong have to be so evil? It’s just… such a waste.”
Even Goku, who is extremely merciful, can lose restraint. Frieza was beyond evil. I wish he had stayed dead.
Rest in peace. Rock in my throat today
rest in peace to chris ayers his performance grew on me ovver time but this was the frieza i grew yp with it was perfect
The one time we saw the wrath of Goku after his patience ran out. Intense
You know someone is a lost cause when even Goku insults their intelligence.
honestly, the fight between goku and frieza is one of the best fights in dbz, and it showed in how goku is an amazing character in this series because even after frieza killed his best friend krillin, he still showed a bit of sympathy to frieza and even gave him some energy for him to stay alive, but of course... frieza was a complete dumbass in wanting to still kill goku after saving him from dying. goku then saw that it's useless to redeem frieza, so he had to kill him with all his power.
everytime i hear goku yell "YOU FOOL!!!!" it just gives me chills, i can totally hear how upset and angry he feels when he sees that frieza still wants to kill him.
Greed destroys quality story telling.
The only 1v1 in fiction which never got interfered or ended in a dissatisfying manner
Frieza's damn tough, he's already lost half his body, being cut in half, gets blasted and even survives Namek's explosion.
He's also damn stubborn. Unbelieveble that even when aided by Goku's portion of energy he still believes he can win. Unbelieveble, the most thick-headed villain, even more
desperate and obstinate than Super Buu (who didn't want to admit Vegito was better).
It was mentioned that Frieza’s race can survive ANY injury. The only way they can be killed is by obliterating their body completely. This is also how Cell survived his own self Destruction, because of Frieza’s genes.
When u try to kill someone with the energy they gave u lol 😂
Thank you Akira Toriyama and all who worked on all the version of Dragonball Z in different languages around the world!
"YOU FOOL!" ONE OF MY FAVOURITE FUCKING LINES AND MOMENTS IN DRAGON BALL
“you honestly think you won” says this while he only has one limb
"You can't win because I'm mighty and you're not." That's a big talk from somebody with 1/4 of their body.
he did not want to kill Frieza. just like Vegeta, he saw Frieza as a great training partner. Goku believed if he showed mercy that Frieza would change his ways. However, not even Frieza could be reasoned with and Goku had to kill him. I think he's trembling after the fact because for the first time in his life he had to kill somebody he wanted to let live
The best music! Whenever an important moment happens they play this one
People who watched Kai or skipped through the filler of the original will never know how satisfying it was to finally reach this part
“YOU FOOL” sounded so awesome
By all means, one of the most renowned scenes in Dragon Ball Z.
My favorite DragonBall Z line! You can feel Gokus frustration when he yells You Fool! Dragonball Z will forever be better than Super
1:44 Goku after he defeats Frieza:
Bardock: I'm so proud of you, My son.
I actually like the older version a little more because in that one Goku dragged the 'YOU FOOL!!' longer and that is one of my favourite lines of all time
Frieza's durability is insane. He survive the angry Kamehameha then a exploding planet while cut in half us crazy
Indeed
One of the most iconic scenes ever written
God i miss old goku
Don't we all.
Not to mention akira toriyama
ginyu transformation theme made it to this moment again
Man when goku screamed “YOU FOOOOL” I felt it in my soul
thank you this is a way better version than kai , i really didn't like kai at all it was too fast paced
My head cannon was that robo frieza is basically all robot and half as powerful hence how trunks got him so fast
When the soundtrack kicks in at the moment the beam strikes down Frieza I get freaking chills. First time I saw it as a kid blew my fucking mind.
In this scene in the Manga, Goku was sad not angry because he wasn't able to save Frieza, an animation error.
He really resisted trying to kill Frieza right until the end, because that was the first time he killed someone, Goku was always a pure soul so ending someones life wasn't in his nature. You can see that it tore him up inside after.
Goku's first kill? Someone didn't watch DragonBall.

When he visit Goku in 24 hours and at the time king piccolo the father of piccolo was birthing a lot of children aka Piccolo’s brothers, they was killing Goku friends like a motherfucker Goku never lost someone before that’s why he was on some revenge shit
I think when Dragon Ball Z came out and realize he’s not from earth. I think he grew and realize all creatures deserve a second chance
And he was maturing like first before he realize he’s not from earth he spared piccolo and I don’t think he did it because he see good in him I think he did it because he don’t want Kamui killed because otherwise Goku would’ve finished a job think about it in dragon ball Goku was catching a lot of bodies
That super subtle fist tremor than to a closed fist is great. Knowing him it was the tremor saying I didn’t want to kill him. The close fist was, I had to.
This is when kakarot becomes Goku
They should've just given Goku the kill, to be honest. Frieza surviving and going to Earth, only to be killed by Trunks did nothing to build on the plot. Trunks would have likely came to this timeline to warn everybody about the Androids, whether Frieza was still alive or not.
