A little extra information for you on this especially if you are a newer seller. So if you don't have that bar at the top you're not eligible or haven't been invited. One thing eBay has missed is telling actual specific timeframe requirements for EIS. For instance I'm a newer seller 4 mos. in with over 500 sales and above standard rating, but don't have the option currently. I've contacted eBay several times to find out how long do I need to have a store? How long do I need to be a top rated seller? For which they have no answers. The only answer I've been given is that it's an invite only thing currently. How true this is I don't know. It's been very frustrating to say the least, but at this point I'll wait for the universe to take care of me on this one.
Terrific information. Do you mind if I pin this answer to the top?
So you can't ship your products internationally (over seas) if you don't have that invite option? It seems that the "eBay international shipping" is available only for americans. But I've seen plenty of sellers on eBay with free international shipping. How does that work? I have/create some great products to sell.. but I'm not sure how to sell it in other countries because of the shipping.
Thanks for this I was wondering why I wasn’t given the option yet. As I’m a new seller
@@keaunalynn I think that since they take all the risk for the sale, eBay waits until you're established before they open it up.
Thanks so much for explaining this. I'm a new seller and could not find this info anywhere.
Thank you so very much for this video! My first international sale wasn't sure how to do it. So, I contacted eBay and they were absolutely no help at all. The woman on the phone told me eBay handles it all, but did not explain the whole procedure. Was so confused and the woman really wanted the item. I was ready to refund her then stumbled on your video. I'm now a subscriber to your channel!
You are so welcome! I appreciate the encouragement.
Best ever video on international shipping
Super kind, thank you
Thanks Scot! Love how you show us step by step.😃
I truly appreciate that. Thank you. :-)
Hi,thanks for your video, great information, what's that mean-who pays, and the buyer will pay, thanks
Hi Scott,
Thank you for your great educational tutorials. You're one of my favorite RUclipsrs.😊
I've heard that when a package is shipped internationally, the Ebay folks in Illinois will always re-package your item into a different box or envelope than the one you sent it in. With that in mind, wouldn't it be best to package the item as inexpensively as possible, rather than using any brand new shipping materials? For example, the nice, brand new box you used in this video could be saved for a domestic shipment that goes directly to the buyer.
Also, if you have a very fragile item going overseas, the care you take in packaging a breakable item might not be duplicated by Ebay International Shipping staff. So while you, as a seller, might not have to eat the cost of a refund, its still SO sad to think about a one-of-a-kind, amazing glass piece wind up getting destroyed because of not being boxed very well by the Illinois facility. Please let me know if my info about this is inaccurate in any way. I'm new, never done International, and trying to learn too!!! Thanks!!!
~K
I truly appreciate the kind words!
Ebay opens and inspects every package. They repack IF they think it's necessary. They don't automatically repack everything. I decided to just pack it well enough to make the trip. It might cost me a dollar or two more in materials, but I want to ensure a safe trip if I can.
Thanks again!
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you for letting me know that. I mistook the inspection aspect for them always repacking. You are a wealth of knowledge and I so appreciate you!
Great instruction Scot! Appreciate you brother! 😊
Thank you! I appreciate that
omg . I turned off international shipping because I thought it would cost so much. Thanks
I hope this helps. I don't add any international shipping other than Ebay International Shipping because it's just so good
I did too! It was so intimidating sounding lol
Thank you for the clarification. I always excluded International.
If eBay is paying the international cost why does it ask how you want to ship. I put standard international shipping which is 11 to 20 business days .I'm not sure which one to pick and then it asks you what the buyer pays for international shipping.
I appreciate anyone making a video trying to help people....that really needs to be applauded....but...nothing is perfect and I am a witness to that.....international shipping sounds good and it is good but it's not without it's issues....even if ebay is doing the heavy lifting for you....and they are not always the same issues....all I'm saying is never just go with "this is magic and there are never going to be any problems" because you will get them with international shipping....so do not go into this thinking nothing will ever happen and it will always be roses and sunshine....because it will not....if you have a business you will have business issues and they are not always good....do not be naïve....approach it the same way you approach selling domestically and you will be fine....
I agree with this and hope I didn't make it sound like nothing could ever go wrong. I think it's as good as it's ever been. On the downside, it's really expensive for the buyers. And as long as humans are involved, there's opportunity for mistakes.
eBay just recently added Alaska, Puerto Rico and Hawaii to Ebay international shipping!!
I did not know that!!!
I have international turned off as I am fairly new. Had a recent sale that is going to Puerto Rico somehow.
I made my first sale to Hawaii this week
I had NO idea that I had been opted in, until reviews started coming in from the UK, Italy and Japan!! Of course I was excited, but utter confused bcz all of the mailing addresses were here in the states and got there in a matter of days.
Right!? LOL... not a bad way to find out.
Thanks for your content. Is there ever a good reason to opt out of shipping to a PO Box?
I think it's just an extra step. For me, I would always prefer not to use my home address.
I am opted in, thanks for showing me how to check. BUT, I noticed all of my exclusions for shipping locations are checked except Alaska/Hawaii. Should I exclude any at all or pick and choose?
Once you're opted in, the international shipping location will actually decide anyway. So, I don't bother checking them unless I have a specific reason to do so. eBay International Shipping Program decides who they will ship to anyway.
Thank you so much!
wait you're saying that all you have to do (in your example) is charge 6$ shipping and it will ship to Cambodia? How is that possible? Is the buyer paying a lot more than 6$?
Yes, the buyer is paying eBay for the international portion of the trip. I ship it to eBay’s shipping hub in Illinois. All the extra costs are handled between eBay and the buyer.
Hi there! So does eBay automatically show your listings to international shoppers when we’re opted into it? Or do we still need to ‘add international shipping’ within the product listing during setup? I can’t find the answer to this anywhere!
No, it's automatically shown when you are eligible. You don't need to add anything. :-)
What boxes do you use for the different international shipping services? Does a plain box work for them all except priority international?
Yes. I just use the boxes I have in my description. Plain brown cardboard boxes. 😀
Can you make a video about step by step, Print on Demand International Shipping Options ? I am using Printify and I am not sure where to change the options from, Ebay or Printify.
Thank you!
You would use eBay as the selling platform and Printify as the supplier. It's difficult for me to create that tutorial since I don't have any of the international shipping options.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you for the answer. The thing is I am based on UK and Printify doesn't let me set for example just domestic shipping, or at least I can't find the option, and also doesn't let me publish the T shirt only if I select free delivery because some Ebay policy they say, thing that could be very inconvenient , to sell free worldwide plus free return. I was wondering if I can do some changes from Ebay in such way to not affect Printify policy. Its a bit Confusing! Thank you for answering and I'll appreciate any advise. Keep up the good work sir !!! 🙏
Will I be charged extra for international shipping or will the buyer cover the full cost and will it be almost exactly like shipping domestically?
The buyer pays the international shipping fees. As a seller, it won't impact your shipping costs at all. You never see or handle that extra shipping money.
As a buyer the more something costs the higher transportation fee eBay charges (-before the extra handling cost and then the VAT)! 🙁
When you are doing your own international shipping outside of ebay, do you need to attach a commercial invoice to the outside of the packaging or isn't it necessary?
I don't ship outside of the eBay International Shipping (EIS). I do know you don't typically have to have a commercial invoice. Usually, the International Shipping form with the declarations on it will suffice. The exact requirements vary from country to country. For me, I don't think I would ship internationally without EIS.
Question: I ship an item to Japan by using eBay international shipping, Standard delivery. I ship the item to the eBay international delivery center in PA, they took the package and shipped it to Japan. The Japanese post office returned the package for some reason, and it is now being delivered in Glendale IL. It is not being returned to my address, what does this mean now? Am I gonna get the item back from eBay? Buyer already opened a case for refund too. Thanks.
The refund should impact you. "It shouldn't" That said, it sounds a bit unusual. The Glendale, IL. is still an eBay hub. That's where I ship my EIS packages to. So, even if it is going to get shipped back to you, it doesn't surprise me that it went to the IL address. BUT, I'd still contact eBay on Facebook. Returns are not supposed to impact the seller in any way.
Hope you get to feeling better !
My voice was pretty rough. I even looked tired. 😆 Hopefully be on the mend tomorrow
How much do you charge for international shipping? I currently have it set at calculated depending on location and weight
I only do through Ebay's International Shipping program. So, the buyer pays eBay for the international leg of the trip. I'm only shipping it to Illinois. So, I don't charge anything differently that I do domestic.
@@TheChaChingKing how much do you do domestic?
Do you have a video about freight shipping? It seems freight options changed recently and I've never done it.
I don't have a video for that. By design I've avoided shipping large items. I used to do it when I was still building furniture, but I avoid it now.
Hi Scott, this is from a slightly different angle, but I'm in the UK and am interested in buying a Hot Toys figure off eBay from Japan but I'm a bit worried about getting hit by unforeseen shipping taxes, customs fees, duties and handling etc., but someone has told me eBay add all the extra costs onto your payable total in advance at the checkout so you know from the off exactly how much you'll be paying in all. Could you tell me if this is true before I take the leap? Thanks in advance 👍
While I haven't bought from an international seller, that is my understanding of the process. I think eBay adds all of the fees and duties into the cost they charge. You might send eBay on Facebook the same question just to be sure.
@@TheChaChingKing Thanks for the reply and the tip. I never thought of that. Cheers 👍
Question....I have figured out the shipping charges ahead for an item to ship direct from my location internationally and listed with that amount of shipping on my listing. Can I bypass the Glengrove, Illinois hub and do it myself?
Yes, you can offer International Shipping yourself. When you create your listing, add an additional service for International Shipping.
On my eBay account, it doesn't give me the option to opt in. I had an international sale that cost me $48 to ship, which cut way into my profits. What am I doing wrong?
You need to make sure your shipping policies don't have international shipping included. I don't add any international shipping on my own. ONLY the eBay International Shipping once it's available.
@@TheChaChingKing thank you that’s very helpful! So when listing a new item to sell don’t click “international shipping” under shipping details I should wait until I can opt in ?
I'm a new seller. I followed your instructions but do not have an opt in option on my shipping account page. I have an auction ending today and the buyer lives in Norway. I am in the U.S. Do you have any recommendations?
Without seeing exactly what's going on, I can't be sure. If you have been given the option of opting in yet, there's no way to force that issue that I know of. If the winning buyer is in another country, it should charge more for shipping. They don't automatically get it for you domestic rate. You might contact eBay on Facebook to see if they can look at your auction to give you further instructions.
Hello ! great chanel , I have the international shipping program enabled. With all the countries available, however, I have people from the UK and South Africa who tell me that they cannot buy from my store because they get a notice that unfortunately this seller does not ship to the UK and that they should look for another seller. I really don't understand what's wrong with me. in my policies, any ideas? Thanks for your good advice!
I don't think it's your policies at all. It could be that an item can't ship to their location. Or, it could be that ebay has them blocked for one reason or another.
Do you leave all the countries listed as options? I don’t understand how to fill in the rest of the options, after enrolling in international shipping.
Mine doesn't look like that. It has 9 choices to exclude for international shipping. I wish it were as easy as you show it.
If you're looking at excluding individual places, I wonder if you're in the international shipping that is separate from the EIS. ?
I just sold something internationally, and it gave me his international address, not the seller hub address. What should I do? Has this ever happened to you?
It sounds like you have created a shipping option for international sales that is outside of Ebay's International Shipping program. I would reach out to eBay on Facebook and see what they tell you to do.
@@TheChaChingKing thanks 👍
Hi! What about VAT taxes and all of that jazz that other countries deal with? Does eBay also handle all of that if we ship internationally?
eBay does all of that. I literally don't have to do anything different other than ship it to Illinois to eBay's shipping hub. eBay handles the rest.
@@TheChaChingKing Thank you! 😊
I am a newer seller, have 100% feedback, but only fifteen sales with feedback so far. The rest are from buying. Why is it not showing eBay international shipping as an option on my seller hub? I've tried contacting eBay, but their automated customer service is terrible. Thank you for any help you can give. I have a guy from Japan trying to buy something so I'm rushing to sort this out. Thank you!!
It's not possible for me to know exactly why they haven't opted you in yet. But, I wouldn't give up, either. I would reach out to eBay on Facebook. They are FAR more responsive than any other method I've found on eBay. I don't know if they can help. But, I do know that's where your best chance lies. Just send them a message and go from there. I hope it works out soon!
@@TheChaChingKing thank you so much. I will do that. Your information has been so helpful in getting my part time eBay account off the ground and running. You and your wife are excellent teachers and I always leave your videos feeling encouraged. 😊 Have a blessed day
Great video!
Thanks!
Hi, are commercial invoices on the outside of the packaging necessary when shipping internationally.
I think I answered this. I don't have to do any of that through eBay International Shipping.
Okay, thanks for replying. I'm a private eBay seller and need to send a low value item to Canada from Europe so I was just wondering.
@@SmithTheMythY OH, that does make more sense. If I'm honest, I don't know how international shipping works from outside of the US.
I made the changes added my exclusions, when do the changes take effect.
It shouldn't take long. The exemptions will end up being handled by eBay International Shipping going forward. Hopefully, you'll see an international sale soon!
I sell a lot of items that are 3 dollars or less. How can I test if a buyer can combine shipping for multiple items? It doesn't make sense for a buyer to pay 10 dollars shipping for a 2 dollar item unless they put in a bigger order. I'm selling gaming cards so weight is not a factor.
According to eBay, you shouldn't have to do anything at all to make it work before hand. If an international buyer purchases more than one item, you should be able to combine them after the fact.
"If you are currently enrolled in eBay International Shipping, there’s nothing you need to do. Your eligible listings will be updated automatically, and combined shipment orders will display like they do for any other domestic order. Simply combine and ship to the domestic eBay International Shipping hub, and you’re done. "
@@TheChaChingKing I had already read that but I'm not sure you completely understand what I'm getting at. I have free shipping for orders over 5 dollars. So let's say someone from the UK orders 20 different items at once in one big order. I ship for free to the International shipping location. I don't get to see what the shipping charge is to the UK for 20 items. I would say eBay calculates that somehow. Do they use the weight I specify in the listings? For me the weight is irrelevant because I'm just selling gaming cards. For other people it could make a huge difference. One thing that ticked me off is I wasn't on the program. Some sales lady from eBay called and was trying to sign me up. I was asking about the combined shipping thing and she said she would check. Next thing I know I'm signed back up into eBay International Shipping. Very shady if you ask me.
How long do "Buy It Now" listings stay active before they need to be relisted??
The stay listed indefinitely. BUT, eBay automatically renews then every 30 days
It might work for packages but not for letter mail.
I send stamps in a standard envelope with eBay shipping label.
I was opted in automatically and my international buyer in Canada was charged $23 shipping for a letter I could mail myself for $1.50.
I lost the sale and the customer and I opted out.
Good information! I've never tried to send anything that would ship domestically in the standard envelope.
I don't have this option, I've been on Ebay for over 22 years, and have sold hundreds of items, but I can't join international for whatever reason....
Wow...I wonder why?
HELP! Why can’t my buyer pay? Item going to Australia and it’s asking me to send an invoice and choose another shipping option
It's going through eBay's International Shipping? You shouldn't have to do anything extra at all. It sounds more like you have it set to ship directly. If so, you'd have to invoice for the difference in shipping. If I were you, I'd reach out to eBay on Facebook and ask them to look directly at the sale.
Im still not eligible yet unfortunately, not sure when it becomes available. I've had this ebay account since 2016 with 100% positive feedback and just reached top seller status as of today. but only been selling for about 4 months. Maybe i will be eligible soon.
Hopefully, it will not be long.
How come when I get an order from Puerto Rico they don't ship to a hub isn't that still considered international
Puerto Rico isn't considered international. Puerto Rico has not become an independent nation. BUT, it hasn't become State of the Union, either. But since it remains a territory of the United States, it is included within the United States Postal System.
I don’t have eBay International shipping section?! Can you help
Ebay just hasn't opted you in yet. As soon as you qualify, it should be automatic
I have an item going to a military member with FPO AP address. I'm enrolled in eBay International shipping but can't print a shipping label because eBay is requiring me to complete a customs form. Why would they want that if I'm enrooled?
The FPO AP address is either not going through the international shipping program (I don't think those are always considered "foreign") or just requires a declaration of what's inside.
@@TheChaChingKing Thanks so much! Love your videos and wealth of information!
I believe that what you’re saying, may hold true for some, however not for All. In the middle of your video search for the way that I might one of my items for international sales. I was already updated however it says that I am responsible for return and something else I can’t remember. Why could this be?
Unless you are offering international shipping that doesn't go through eBay’s International Shipping Program, returns are handled by eBay for everyone in the program. It really is everyone. It's hard for me to diagnose without seeing what you are seeing. If you can screenshot it, or even record a short video, send it to me on Instagram. I'd love to see it and try to figure out why it looks that way for you.
@@TheChaChingKing I don’t know how to attach a photo to RUclips! Oh no, I screenshot it.
It says “you’ll manage the export process yourself, including customs and returns” on the same page. It gives me a whole bunch of different choices for weight of the packaged item in shipping. Ex: USPS priority mail international 6 to 25 business days max 70 pounds $69.91-$150.94 save when you buy your label with eBay.
I am worried that there is too many sellers not enough buyers. millions of views on theses guy channel lol they know the paying 50 bucks for something the other person got for fiddy cent
As of May 2024, there are 132 million active buyers on eBay and about 18 million sellers. So, you have to make sure you aren't in saturated categories, but there are still a ton of opportunities.
Why didn’t you use an HS code?
When I ship through eBay International Shipping, they take care of all of that.
@@TheChaChingKing I just sold my first item and eBay is asking for a HS code. I have no idea what it is
I just cancelled my international sale because nobody from eBay would answer my question. It is not easy as you say.
What about shipping from outside usa into usa?
I don't have any experience at all shipping that direction. I don't really even have a way to simulate it. You'd have to find someone in the country you're trying to ship from and see if they can share some tips.
what about the time it's take long time ?
Depending on where it's going, it can certainly take some time. It doesn't typically stay at the eBay hub very long.

How much do I know what to charge??
Here's a video about how much I charge for shipping. ruclips.net/video/-ke0AK7vE5E/видео.html
If you were just wandering how much to charge extra for eBay International Shipping, you don't have to worry about that. eBay takes care of that with the buyer.
@@TheChaChingKing So the buyer is charged the international shipping fee under the eBay International Shipping program? I keep looking for how much it's going to cost me to ship internationally. All I see is the domestic charge? I don't want a surprise international shipping fee bill.
I don’t see the option. Why wouldn’t it be there?
Ebay just hasn't opened it up to you yet. That would be my guess. Once they do, they opt you in automatically.
If the option is not there for us, we have to wait to be opted in?
Mine doesn’t show that opt in?
You are just not eligible yet. As soon as you are, eBay will opt you in automatically.
I am opted in for eBay International Shipping, however, when I try to add international shipping, it does not give me the option for eBay International Shipping only the standard options. Is eBay International Shipping automatically an option on my item that is listed if I am opted in?
You may not qualify yet. eBay decides when you qualify. Once you do, they automatically opt you in.
It still says nothing about shipping preferences why is that?
I have a separate video for setting your shipping preferences. This video is specifically targeted towards understanding eBay's International Shipping program. See if this video is closer to what you need. ruclips.net/video/wFFghNtUDN0/видео.html
The best as always!
Quick Q: Is there any way to edit in bulk all the international shipping? I changed it but I still need to go on each listing and chose the International Service?
Once you opt in, eBay should automatically include all of your listings in it. You shouldn't need to go into each listing. :-) Thank you so much for the positive comment.
man, I'm from Slovakia and shipping to other countries is incredibly annoying. The options and the variability of costs even to neighbouring countries is just messed up. Why can't the entire world be like US.
There's no doubt that we have more options available to us here in the US. I do hope it gets easier in the future from other locations.
That is how it works until you have a package damaged. Ebay made me eat the whole order. I am still not happy about it, The package was fine when it got to them
Interesting. So, it was damaged AFTER it left the hub and they didn't cover it?
@@TheChaChingKing no, it was like talking to a brick
@@robertfrye5161 Definitely discouraging.
@@TheChaChingKing That was a few years ago. About 12 years ago I had a package go missing in the APO system. It made it to NY and back then you didn't get scans from the overseas delivery. It was insured and a year later I got the package back, It had at least 12 forwarding stamps in French all over Paris.I have been printing my own postage over 20 years, have a lot of transactions, well over 250K packages. I really take offense when I get lectured on how to ship by a buyer with a rating of 3. In the 25 years there I can smell problems just from the questions they ask. I am slowing down only doing 4000 packages a year.
It is ridiculous expensive price to charge.Selling $10 small light weight item need to pay $14 from U.S to U.K ? How can we compete with China post of Chinese seller paying around $3 postage from China to U.K? We would better drop shipping from China .
True, I don't sell low value items for this very reason. It's just not worth it for me.
Not true. The shipping was deducted from my sale b4 i shipped my package to the international shipping location. Then 2 weeks later, the same amount was taken out AGAIN from my sale for shipping again. This happened on the only 2 items i shipped international. Ebay was no help whenni tried to talk to someone. Cant get a real human to explain why i was charged 2x. I will NEVER SHIP INTERNATIONAL WITH EBAY EVER AGAIN.
I hate that your experience didn't match mine. I've had zero issues like you've described. I haven't heard about anyone getting charged twice when shipping through ebay international shipping
If the buyer files a return - Not As Described - guess who's stuck paying the hefty return $$$$$.
If you used eBay's International Shipping, eBay pays it. So far, they've handled all of the costs associated with international returns since this program began. If that changes, then I would reconsider using it.
I hate to be critical, but this video is NOT a tutorial; you left out all the important information: selecting countries, shipping rate table and what they are, cut off time definition, combined payments etc. Your whole video was just "this is simple".
I'm sorry you didn't get what you needed out of it. You don't select the countries when using eBay’s International Shipping. As a seller, you have no input into the international shipping rates at all. I would agree that this video is not comprehensive. It wasn't intended to be. It was literally just to show how to make sure you're signed up and how it works.
Used to buy international all the time until they started this rip off. Shipping price is a joke.
I'm sure it's far too expensive for some items. I know a lot of sellers won't ship without it, though.
The thing that all of the youtubers I have watched including you sir, that you dont get is that USA is not the whole world. I more detailed video on an order from USA to EU would a far better example to demonstrate international shipping.
I'm not sure I understand what you think I should be showing. I'm showing how the eBay International Shipping works. The only experience I have with it is from the USA. I'm never used it anywhere else. Are you saying that I need to show how it works from an EU perspective? If so, how would I do that?
It isn't that I don't get that there are places outside of the USA, it's that I can only teach from my own perspective. If I was in Australia, I'd show it from that perspective. If I was in the EU, that would be my perspective. Perhaps I've misunderstood what you are saying.
@@TheChaChingKing Thanks for replying that fast. The point I am trying to make is that most of the EU countries dont have a respective eBay store so citizens like me have to go into a different country's eBay store to sell out products, such as US, UK etc.
Things there get too perplexed with different currencies and services.
If you have the knowledge on that topic a video would be real helpful or if you have any EU creators in mind that could help me out.
@@thegreeklad9793 AHHH...that makes sense. Thank you for explaining it. It's an interesting video idea. What are the key topics you'd want to see in a video like that? What questions would you have that I might be able to answer?
@@TheChaChingKing A simple selling video like the ones you have made before but with steps that apply for selling outside of the US, from a country that does not have an eBay store. I don’t know if I’m asking for too much here since you are a US citizen. Even a small spreadsheet with what to do and how to handle shipping, postage etc would be helpful. To be more specific I’m living in Greece where we don’t have a dedicated eBay store. I tried selling on the US store but domestic shipping won’t match since the product is in Greece…kinda lost as you can see, and thank you yet again for your time
@@thegreeklad9793 I will do some investigation and see what I can come up with. I know that it will vary a great deal from country to country. Dropshipping with something like Printify may be the only viable option.
