Funny you mentioned the sell off, as a bright youngster in the early 90s I remember reading about it in the Today newspaper, I firmly told my dad that I would buy one of these Chieftains for my "first car"; £1500 was cheap for a good car let alone a tank. Needless to say my dad rolled his eyes and continued with his day.

@ talking about the Chieftan tank as not everyone knows about it, but him making that video leads people to find out about the tank and learn its history.
Well said Mr Hewes. It's his tank and he can do what he likes with it In any event It's a testament to the build quality and engineering that the chieftain can be used in as close to battlefield conditions and repaired and recommissioned. Just goes to show that under Whistlins silly persona there is a smart person who by the sounds of it is on a simmilar page for preservation of histories machines and stories. Well done to the both of you and your respective teams who have all been involved in this project and many others. 👍
i think you hit the nail on the head, what people see and what's real are different things. people like him won't live full throttle every second of the day off-camera. we don't see what's off camera, at the end of the day this is entertainment and youtube is something we don't have to pay for but yet people like they have a right to complain about what they see.
love that you never push people to follow and subscribe or like the videos, I mean I do all of those things because I want to not because I'm told to. keep swingin' spanners, bangin' hammers, and most of all listen to ted as he's the boss.
🤝
Love your vids, all the odds and ends info about the tanks is excellent.
That’s actually one of your best videos, thanks for making a Friday evening more entertaining for me!
Got the impression there was a lot more to Cody, you don’t get that successful being a fool 🤣
I can understand that some people are upset over the treatment of the chieftain by diesel, but it is also a goddamn tank. Who doesn't want to see a tank do all sorts of stuff that you wish you could do yourself? don't tell me it isn't a childhood dream to drive over a car or through a bus! Diesel is a bit crazy but I had a feeling he didn't just buy it to smash it and discard it like a broken toy. I think he has a lot of passion for cars and for what he does. It is very good to hear he has restored it, and that he inspired you to make this channel, bless him. I love watching you tinker on your tanks!
I don't think whatever hate he receives has anything to do with the tank. It's a tank. It's a hunk of metal made to go to war. Who cares if it gets beat up. It's not even something rare and of great value. I've seen guys on here driving rare Ferraris through dirt roads and shit. Now THAT pisses me off. Drive the damn thing but not off road.
It's just that some people, including me, don't like people who just break stuff for youtube likes, views and subs. It's this fake, edgy persona he has created
@@xXturbo86Xx Dirt roads and gravel roads are still roads.
@@xXturbo86Xxroads are roads bro, ferarris also aren't works of art anymore, they are mass produced toys for the rich made of cheap plastic.
@@xXturbo86Xxyour mad a character is playing a character and tearing up their own things to make major money from it? Are you a tad bit delayed? Go buy your own Ferrari and keep it in your garage. There's lots more where whistlindiesel's came from.
I've been watching your videos since way before Whistlin Diesel bought the tank from you. I love your channel man! Keep up the great work you and your team are doing! (From the USA)
L60 sounds like any diesel on the stand but the exhaust box gives it that distinctive howl known to thousands of enthusiasts and ex service personnel. Love it.
That engine sound was beautiful!
The best sounding crap engine ever built.
To be fair, they only needed to last a week or two.
@@Grover91 why is it so crap? They replaced the chieftain engine that was broken with this one. And later sold the tank to whistlin diesel, so it did indeeed need to run longer than 2 weeks.
You do a great job of putting your videos together and this one was no exception, nice to hear you say so many positive things about the whole project, it seems that Cody isn't as crazy IRL as he is in his videos.
0:43 Fifteen hundred to two grand for a 60 (??) ton tank...... that's some heavy metal for cheap!! 😮😮
i get goosebumbs when hearing the monsterous L60 roar - the ultimite roaring 60's sound - like back in the days when I was working at 23.Base Workshop R.E.M.E. in 58300 Wetter, West Germany from 85-88.
You guys are so crazy, I like it !
Oliver
2:36 hear me out, THIS ENGINE in a fookin MIATA
yes.
So glad you made this video, much respect.
Just let the man drive his tank through walls!
Like many others, I came here because of WhistlinDiesel and have been more than happy to stay. Thank you for deciding to film all of your mechanical adventures, looking forward to many more!
Fair do’s. What a genuine guy. I enjoy your channel and respect your comments about your new US friend. Respect
HeavyD and one of his helicopters at 14:04, he started out doing engine conversions on Land Rovers!
I always wondered how he affords those.
Cant say enough how much i enjoyed this video, the music, the narration, the background videos and pictures. All absolutely lovely.
Awesome video!
you must admit it does look mint with the white and red paint scheme 👌
With whistling diesel using the tank like this, it gets spread all over the internet and it helps spread awareness so it’s literally all positive all around as he also maintains it well. Full respect for him.
Spread awareness of tanks? I’m not really sure people lack tank awareness, or what issues that would cause them in life.
@ talking about the Chieftan tank as not everyone knows about it, but him making that video leads people to find out about the tank and learn its history.
Best RUclips videos I've seen lately. Honestly, it grabbed my attention the whole time.
it's a tank, it's designed for all the rough and tumble, to take licking and keep on ticking.
Good stuff. I'd never heard of your channel before this, and I rarely watch any WD's content, but I enjoyed this.
Well said Mr Hewes. It's his tank and he can do what he likes with it
In any event It's a testament to the build quality and engineering that the chieftain can be used in as close to battlefield conditions and repaired and recommissioned. It strikes me that that is so much more respectful than leaving it in a field for 20 years
I for one won't be unsubscribing
Keep up the good work.
Love this video!!!! Love whistlin diesel and Abosutely love how humble you are, so glad to have found you on RUclips!
shows the importance of a stock of useful engines / gearboxes / ancilliaries all fixed, cleaned and painted ready to go , makes a swap over after the rusty work done quite quick
It’s just so amazing I seeing something so badly decayed turned back into something beautiful again. Thank god people like you exist to save these moving parts of history. Shame we can’t seem to do this with our historic buildings.
Great video, very entertaining and an inspired choice of music. You and your team have made it to my bucket list to visit.
i started watching this channel because of that tank lol. thank you all for the great content !!!
Obviously Ted should take all the credit for his achievements in getting this tank up and running again, but I suppose I could give you and Jack a mention too, so there you go, mentioned. People love to hate when they see other people having fun, it's a tank, it'll take a fair bit more than a few bent panels to stop it.
Brilliant stuff, your videos are always entertaining and informative! I'm not a mechanically inclined guy, but I still love seeing what you lot do and how you get these tanks and other vehicles working again.
0:40 ...MOD firesales are the best.
We bought a pair of BV206s about 20 years ago. One was £3k, one was 6. The cheaper one had a poorly done winter camo paint job which was flaking badly and needed attention and it needed a new engine (re-conned crate engine was £500). The 6k one was good to go.
I've driven past this Tank many times over the years and wondered where it had gone and literally just stumbled across your video. Great to see it alive again.
Dude you just earned a sub by simply loving the fun and understanding of what this is all about. Also telling people to screw off politely at the end is awesome
I also started to follow your channel after Cody got the tank. I love watching your videos and seeing the old tanks being brought back to life. Keep up the good work lads! All the way from New Zealand 🇳🇿
You guys are doing brilliantly. Keep it up.
I know this tank, it was a gate guard at Newcastle, an old colleague arranged the sale (very cheap) and helped bring back on a return load.
It was parked in a local pub carpark before being moved to the farm.
Had a scramble round it with my kids, would be about 2000 or 2001.
I can confirm this is the same story I was told. And have seen the photos of it at the pub 🤣
Outstanding stuff lads thanks for the entertainment, keep it coming ❤
Entertainment is subjective and comes in so many forms. Your honest and down to earth approach to life is what made me (and I’m sure others) subscribe and return to watch new content and rewatch old content. Just do you - that’s what we are here for. Thanks for sharing it.
Ted is just awesome ❤❤
Ted is the brains behind the operation!
It's amazing how fast collaborations blossom when people with common 'hobbies' crash into eachother. So much is gained, and we get many of the benefits. Great video Joe.
Always entertaining, always a pleasure.
I often come to this wonderful channel to see what the lads are up on there mad adventures! Mr Hewes and Team you did an amazing job refurbishing the tank! I hope there is not a war as you boys will be much needed the skills you have are the best in industry, great video content!
How can anyone dislike any of your videos? Well done Joe!!
51 noodles have bounced their dummies off the 'dislike' button so far, the poor things...
I never expected this to be as well done as it was. you earned a sub
Cody’s videos are not who he is. It’s ENTERTAINMENT
Guy's that video is a testament to your drive and ability as a team working to the eight degree , I am so pleased to be watching your content its original and sometimes breath taking keep going guy's
My favorite part is when the tank engine is running on the stand and the dog is looking at it thinking sounds great🫡
He wasn’t supposed to have Been let out the van.. 🤣
Only the legend that is Ted could produce all the entertaining videos that you manage to put out and still work as hard as you and Jack do keeping history alive
Well done on your progress guys and gals .
My favourite channel. Thanks for the cool info and backstory.
As usual an outstanding job bringing back a dead and forgotten lump of history. In to a great looking and driving success! Well done lads and Ted! If people don't like it going to a very enthusiastic american gentleman then they are welcome to finance the restoration of another one!
Fair play he’s the reason I came across you guys and love everything you and Cody do definitely think a little collab should happen.
Excellent video
I came across your most recent video today, clicked it and enjoyed it very much. I look forward to enjoying your work, and thank you.
Man, that engine sounded crisp. Successful transplant.
Love both the channels....Ted has the best job in the world!
I started watching you guys with the t 34 that had the bad engine in it. You and your guys there went crazy on that tank. Can't wait to see you go visit the Australian armor museum
Just subscribed to this incredible site. I’m ex-infantry, 1978-1990. No idea about engineering. Find this remarkable. Really interesting stuff. Possibly worked alongside some of those beasties.
