These tanks were built to do a job. Wonderful, dangerous, powerful and complex pieces of technology that they became, by the time the Chieftains were retired. Leaving them to rot as some rusted out gate guard or sunk in a farmer's field is a very sad end. Far better to see them used, abused and maintained to make people feel a sense of awe and be entertained.

Now everyone has convinced themselves to act like they are a multi millionaire (although they’ve only got the finances of a not particularly well-heeled tramp with a good credit rating), its driven the prices up. Tanks were a LOT cheaper ten years ago, accounting for inflation etc. especially when purchased from the military surplus resellers - they used to sell at or just above scrap prices - scrapping was the option for those that didn’t sell because even the military hasn’t got infinite amounts of room to warehouse obsolete fighting vehicles. When the Challenger 2s come up for sale in a couple of years, you’ll k ow when to pounce but I doubt they’ll ever sell at scrap value again. Possibly because of RUclips et al, they will force-scrap 3/4ers of them to keep the supply low and demand high. Which is always going to be better than just scrap value. Them there military surplus blokes are a lot of things, but they’re not idiots (well, most of them anyway).

A quiet tank is one you can hear coming from five miles away instead of ten.
And an honest politician is one who stays bought after you've bribed him.
As for the Russians loving it I suggest you look at it's battle record it easily went toe to toe with it's contemporary Soviet counterparts during its entire service life and utterly outclassed everything that came before. This tank was largely responsible for Israel surviving as a nation despite repeated attempts by it's neighbours all equipped with Russian armour. They only fairly recently disposed of their reserve units because for all it's issues it's still a better Tank than 90% of what's running around in Africa and the middle east today.

A lot of people take whistlindiesel at face value but fail to understand that he plays a character and is actually incredibly intelligent and a genius entertainer and film maker. Yes he's also crazy but don't take him too seriously 😂

Entertainment is subjective and comes in so many forms. Your honest and down to earth approach to life is what made me (and I’m sure others) subscribe and return to watch new content and rewatch old content. Just do you - that’s what we are here for. Thanks for sharing it.

I can understand that some people are upset over the treatment of the chieftain by diesel, but it is also a goddamn tank. Who doesn't want to see a tank do all sorts of stuff that you wish you could do yourself? don't tell me it isn't a childhood dream to drive over a car or through a bus! Diesel is a bit crazy but I had a feeling he didn't just buy it to smash it and discard it like a broken toy. I think he has a lot of passion for cars and for what he does. It is very good to hear he has restored it, and that he inspired you to make this channel, bless him. I love watching you tinker on your tanks!

I don't think whatever hate he receives has anything to do with the tank. It's a tank. It's a hunk of metal made to go to war. Who cares if it gets beat up. It's not even something rare and of great value. I've seen guys on here driving rare Ferraris through dirt roads and shit. Now THAT pisses me off. Drive the damn thing but not off road.
It's just that some people, including me, don't like people who just break stuff for youtube likes, views and subs. It's this fake, edgy persona he has created

As a veteran and purist when it comes to Vietnam where I served and back in history and WWII where my father survived Battle of the Bulge and he and I were in armored in US Army. I have soft spot for history of our tanks and Artillery, this friend of yours I saw 1 video and immediately didn't care for his treatment of pretty much everything, I was brought up with respect for people and equipment. Don't get me wrong like you said his tank to destroy which is sad because soon you will not be able to find parts. You have plenty of subscribers that are purists, you have some great videos and are hard working and very talented. Young and sometimes brash but that's a good quality. I'll say I was saddened by the comment of unsubscribe if you don't like it. Well we all have our opinions and feelings about the subject of history and preservation. Keep on doing good things with these vehicles and I will always watch until either I'm dead or you stop. Thanks for letting me vent

People really don't fathom how long lived tanks can potentially be, there's still t-34s being used in Africa for combat on an occasion. They are often made from alloyed steel that is slow to rust and there's plenty to rust. So even badly kept tanks might be forgotten and restored, abused over and over again for centuries to come. Only thing that really kills tanks are wars and even in those catastrophic kills that result in hull break are relatively rare.

Well said Mr Hewes. It's his tank and he can do what he likes with it
In any event It's a testament to the build quality and engineering that the chieftain can be used in as close to battlefield conditions and repaired and recommissioned. It strikes me that that is so much more respectful than leaving it in a field for 20 years
I for one won't be unsubscribing
    Keep up the good work.
