If you privatise the NHS, you will no longer have an NHS. You will have a private healthcare system. Like the US. Do you really want that? You once had the best healthcare system in the world. DO NOT LET THE NHS GO!!!

I don't think private healthcare is that bad. 92% of people in USA have health insurance and I understand a lot of people get health insurance as apart of their job. People who don't have it or struggle with healthcare costs I believe can get help from Medicaid (Eg: low income children/parents). I know US healthcare is expensive, but that is mainly due to insurance being the 3rd party between consumer and the seller which increases costs. Look into "Direct Primary care" which is a system where instead of insurance, they have membership fees that they pay every month to the clinic and that covers all services that they might need to use. Lower costs, and better service.

    • @jamesfromit
      @jamesfromit 2 месяца назад +4

@ecnalms851 Insurance doesn't always cover certain procedures and doesn't always cover the full cost. I know a few people in the U.S. who have had to open GoFundMe campaigns to help pay for treatments.

@@ecnalms851 If you have health insurance in the US, it doesn't cover you for all procedures or medicines. It also doesn't cover you for all hospitals. Have an emergency but there are no in-band hospitals nearby? You're paying full price. There are so many holes in the US system, it's indefensible.

    • @ecnalms851

@@jamesfromit I know it ain't perfect at all, I get that but like I said there is still help offered like medicare/medicaid if there are people on low-income. I know there are people like you mentioned who still in trouble even with there being help so it obviously ain't perfect, but I'm pretty sure for the vast majority of people in the US, the system does a decent job despite being expensive. Their quality of healthcare is also good - the US relative 10-year survival rate for prostate cancer is 98% whereas in the UK it's approx 80%. But like I said look into the DPC system - it's private healthcare but gets rid of the insurance part and instead replaces it with membership fees and it seems to work pretty well. Just goes to show that it there is a private healthcare system that does work well.

I'm a 4th year medical student in London - we get NHS bursary and SFE maintenance loans, it is no where near enough for me to study without working.
Usually I have to do 3 days days work on top of 4 days of clinical placement so am running work or uni 7 days every week. I'm still finding it difficult to pay rent. I also recently finished a placement in a far away town which sometimes cost £40 a day to travel, but only got reimbursed for one journey a week. I need new clothes for placement but don't have the spare cash.
On contrast I know other students who are from wealthy families and they have never had to worry about working alongside studying.
It has 100% impacted my ability to learn and be better at medicine, as I am forced to cut study time in order to eat and sleep. If my dad wasn't able to help me when I really need it, I do not know how someone from a working class family could realistically sustain this lifestyle if they couldn't stay at home.

I'm 100% sure that people who defend travellers have never had any rock up next to their house.
Had them on school fields growing up, and they repeatedly attacked pupils. Had them on nearby allotments, completely destroyed the years of work people had put in, trashing crops, smashing and robbing sheds and greenhouses. Had them locally on the lawns of OAP sheltered accommodation, and they smashed all the bungalow windows.
Not to mention the piles of waste left when they are finally moved on.
It's these behaviours which cause the reputation and prejudice against them. Take some ownership. Also, as a counterpoint to the Olivia clip, I know someone who spent decades as a traveller liaison officer, they can be extremely hard to engage with, and hostile as a default.

20:31 nah, this is a red herring, the reason working class people are underrepresented in medicine is because it's one of the worst gatekept courses to get into.
All the entry requirements demand rigorous extracurricular activities which favours private schooled kids who can afford to indulge in volunteering, hobbies, relevant work experience etc, not to mention that at an academic level, these private schooled children are likely privately tutored as well as paying for application coaching too which is a thing in medicine.
Medicine is the most oversubscribed courses in the country, it has the most working class applicants of any course hands down, the idea that the underrepresentation of the working class is due to the financial risk is absurd and just obsfuscation.

im in the usa and have top level private healthcare. its bloody awful. starting with no central health records. we payed $5pm deductible for our sons epilepsy meds, then they switched to a more profitable meds supplier, so now we pay $400 up front monthly.
i had spine surgery which vost 10k, we had to pay 5k ourselves.
the limitations on treatment are pretty much nhs level, $800 for teeth per year etc. (awesome considering the dentists messed my teeth up and now im due for jaw rebuilding surgery., guess whos paying for that..not the private care. we will directly.
now all this comes at the cost of 15% of wages being payed into private healthcare, taken beforehand.
tell me who in the uk can afford to stay healthy with that setup? sod all is who. and with boris lowering the food and agriculture standards were already setup to feed that private system forever.
just like the usa..with less say over it.
priority no.1 has to be removing those usa food and agriculture standards. without that the whole thing falls apart on them. boris snuck it through like it was nothing. but he did it. it is in place. just waiting on the nhs to totally collapse and be replaced by private. we have to stop that now.

In order to have a great health system such as Finland's, England would require tax reform. He knows that the English would never cop that, because the English would rather pay exorbitant insurance premiums than reasonable taxes (this is demonstrably so for modern Americans). So don't blame the politicians for the shortcomings of the English public.

Apparently in the north at least they have a bunch of managers who are not doctors and have never been so don't really understand what it is like to be one or what they really need. For example they replaced an old sofa with a shiny new one that was tiny and impossible to lay down on during the middle of the night. You'd think that's a small issue but junior docs are seriously over worked and the 30 mins a night you get to lay down at midnight are VERY important to you. It's symptomatic of the larger issue that they spend money on the wrong things that doctors aren't asking for because they think they know best and don't consult with anyone else. The NHS definitely needs reform but privatisation is NOT the answer

These are averages, so this doesn't mean all men lose 4 years life expectancy, but some men without private healthcare insurance will lose maybe 10, 20 or 30 years of life and those who can afford private care will live to 80, 90 or older. There is already a huge difference in lifespan and healthy life expectancy in the UK between the postcode areas of the wealthy and the poor. The issue with thye Traveller comments is difficult for me. I'm afraid that my experience of them has been really negative. I don't want to pigeon hole them all and I expect many are law abiding considerate people, but that's not the case of all and perhaps it's a conversation that needs having, but it really is a thorny one!

So how much experience have you had of travellers? Would you say you've met them all? 50% of travellers? Maybe 10%? Maybe less than 1% of travellers?
Would you say it is racist to judge a diverse ethnic group of people based on having met less than 1% of that group? And even then, probably quite a limited experience of the travellers you did meet.

It's interesting how the narrative has never changed over the question of Vagabonds.
its a great word that has changed its use over time.
We could use it now to mean anything, Travellers, Gypsies, Chavs, or anything that is of a slightly or more importantly non-culturally important culture than our, alleged collective culture.
The important thing to remember is it never used by anyone of a culture, other than a culture who does not see itself, as using words entirely based in the 18th centaury.

The lady Ava interviews clearly does not care one bit about the massive harm done to communitites by those she defends. Calling their opponents racist is a nice and easy first step to terrorising people into submission, gaining support in London, which will pressurise police forces and make then toothless. Most of my traveller family are culturally distinct from Irish people, but very few of them live nomadically. I don’t have contact with them because I’m gay, and I got a lot of abuse from that part of my family growing up.
In my experience, there are lots of incredibly vulnerable people in the traveller community suffering abuse or from alcoholism or placed in situations that isolate them from the wider world.
The response should not be cultural genocide, even though the community has its problems. Stigmatising people and characterising them as inherently criminal will only further an “us v them” culture on both sides.
As a student I worked for a sports club where we had travellers squat in the car park, damaged our facilities, stole equipment, and left rubbish everywhere.
Lots of people have lived experience of harassment and abuse from the traveller community, so I fully understand the prejudices.
But attempts to remove travellers from society will only increase antisocial behaviour. It’s like criminalising homelessness, it doesn’t solve the problems, but it appeals to the right-wing voter as a “common sense solution” because it’s the kind of bullshit half-baked idea your uncle who went to ‘the university of life’ has in a pub.
Lee Anderson is a bottom feeder. Like Katie Hopkins, he lives to create outrage for attention. I kind of feel like discussing his comments when his whole political career is so disingenuous is kind of legitimising him.
Whatever he says it will be clickbait. If Rishi Sunak made these comments, that would warrant discussion, but like, oh the racist said a racism? Yeah, duh. Don’t give him airtime.
Traveller’s rights should be discussed, but maybe this is the wrong lead-in.

Just pathetic. Last episode was first time I seen this & was just the same. If I ever want to watch a podcast of 2 sixth formers laughing uncontrollably at their own jokes, unable to understand anything they say, then I'll watch this again, however, I don't anticipate that occurring. It really does feel like two 6 formers, believing themselves to be the funniest thing known to man, have told their friend to just keep filming, as they're naturally comedy gold. Zero thought has gone to the audience, just pure indulgence on their own behalf, with any bits that weren't just these two laughing at themselves, offering no political insight or analysis of any adult level. It's little surprise, with this quality of their content, that Douglas Murray makes her look ludicrous whenever she has been on the same shows as him. This was simply awful.
