where do you live now? im from jackson too and now i live in southern california. i never really ate at those places. ive had virginia coney food but not their actual coney dogs. the jackson mi mexican food doesnt even compare to southern california mexican food. ive never heard of carne asada tacos, burritos, fries, nachos or anything with carne asada until i joined the marines and came to california.

@@UNKNOWN-le2tu Virginia Coney Island turned me on to sautéed onions on a hamburger.
The New York and Virginia "Coneys" at both are competitively the same. A stroke looking to happen.
So I think they use Beef Hot Dogs and a no bean beef heart chili sauce but the secret ingredient is the friggin fine chopped onion.
So I was raised on Coney Island Hot dogs.
Also for me, the only Pizza in the world is Andy's Pizza.
I grew up on the Southside(Avery st, which is now the Martin Luther King Center) and Eastside(Tomlinson st)
So I went to McCullough, Pleasant/Tomlinson, East Intermediate and Jackson High(class of 70). My wife went to Queens and Lumen Christi and lived near Spring Arbor
We moved to the Wilmington NC area in 1982 after the Carter Misery Years destroyed Jackson's industrial base.
My last job there was at Goodyear Tire.
Jackson had some great fast food in the 50s thru the 70s.
The Dome, Loud and Jackson(still there different name), Beas drive in, 4 or 5 A& W type root beer stand which also had popcorn, and a great hot dog too.
Downtown was also a great place for fast food.
I never really ate at any of the Dinner restaurants like Gilberts or the Brown Hut.
Now if you've been to Camp Lejeune than you've probably ate in Wilmington. My wife and I order out all the time.
Yeah, you're totally right about Mexican food in Jackson. I did have some friends that opened a place on East Michigan at Horton street that didn't last long
But My Tamale addiction began as a child as my friend Alfonso Jiminez's father used to make a batch and sell them in his front yard on South Dwight street.
Jackson used to also have the best Rib joints, which are gone, maybe set up somewhere else, but I don't go there enough to know where.

You got some good places on your list. But the conies need to be adjusted to the junk yard dog. Best conies I have ever had in my life.

    Honorable Mentions:
Yen King is an Amazing Chinese restaurant.
Greystone Tavern has the best burger in town. Full stop. End of discussion. Go there and have one; you need this in your life.
Best pizza -- three choices; Slice of Spice, Klavon's, and Andy's.
Breakfast -- Roxie Café or Amna's House of Pancakes.
Fish Taco -- Bone Island Grill... I mean, even their wifi password is fishtaco, and I think that says something.
