Mr. Freddie Hubbard your techinal facilty first blew away then your range, then your warmth. When I heard of your passing, I thought of your rendition of Here's that rainy day. I will miss you greatly.
All the rythm guys. Think how many choruses these guys play. Once did an I got herpes jam thing With thirteen front line. I was experiened then, I only did 43 choruses. Sorry Miles, I wish you were around to have said/croaked "Take the horn out !" On a remerance Friday in the Uk And meant with no disrespect to other people who have lost live etc. We must pay homage to the Rhythm sections of the world.. FOR MY BRETHREN who are the engine, the SOUL, the the the. CAN A GET A B FLAT ( no, please, B flat) They are not only the heart beat of any band (it was B flat yes ) Yes my Brethren, the HEART BEAT OF THE BAND, BUT, BUT They look good and get the girls 😭 Sorry, just a disgruntled Trumpet Player, finding God, asking him If we blew the wall down, why did they get all the girls ? Gits
Don's having a tough time keeping up with this speed! Ha! Freddie was just floating over it...or burning through it! Don became better after playing this piece!
when I heard that lick, the ending of cherokee was the first thing that came to my head. Can't think of anything else other than that personally... I hear a LOT of clifford licks in freddie's playing too.
@peytonjmusic Freddie talks about it his playing hiatus in an interview. Search for When Your Chops Are Shot in google. It's an article by Fred Shuster. Hubbard injured his lip because he played too much and then tried to challenge Jon Faddis, of all people, to a high note duel. Then later his top lip "popped" as he calls it.
hmm dont think youve heard much miles. He did have that sort of virtuosity. especially in his early years. he was just one of those players that held back alot. which i like.
As far as I'm concerned, the three trumpet players that really matter are Woody, Freddie, and Fats Navarro. This is a great example...thanks for posting!
@enorman71 do you have some examples of recordings where miles shows off his skills? i'd actually love to listen to that, i'm so used to his sound on "kind of blue"
"... i aint scared"' Freddies horn said. respect! never a day off frm pouring everything into the music. much respect
Been a Hubbard fan since the 70's and blown away again! Best gunslinger of all time.
The great jazz musicians are a special breed.
370-380 beats per minute
For a bass player, this musical territory is known as "just survive this tune".
You don’t have to survive this tune, just don’t play it!
Just incredible - wouldnt have wanted to be in Don Branden shoes - imagine having to follow that. RIP Freddie.
The master in all his splendor...

Freddie Fast Fingers is one thing, but imagine how trained the chops of the base player must be o.O

Simply perfect!!!
Not even 20,000 views...I weep for the future
We’re in the future now… 201k views lol
Imagine what that shit would have sounded like WITHOUT the mute!!!!
Don's having a tough time keeping up with this speed! Ha! Freddie was just floating over it...or burning through it! Don became better after playing this piece!
Amo la música del sr Hubbard y lamento profundamente saber que nunca podré ver su arte trompetístico en vivo.
ハーバードのチェロキーは聴いたことないなぁ。🙄 良かった。

I believe they both were influenced by Fats Navarro.

"Fried Lip Freddy"..but killing!!
Amazing.
I believe that's the ending riff that Dizzy & Bird used at the end of their version.

Sir Hubbard.
Freddie. Baddest ever!
@enorman71 miles did not have this sort of virtuosity though
Don sounds just fine to me... I’d like to hear Benny Green... part two?..

RIP Freddie.
I've never heard Freddie use a harmon mute before this
shoutout to every cherokee record below 260 bpm so I can actually learn from them
Tempo is smokin'
Is that Ron Carter on bass? Woah....
It's almost pointless to listen after Freddie plays in this particular instance...Don ain't ready.
id like to hear what you sound like playing it , load of shite i bet.
Do I hear a bit of Dizzy in Freddie's playing? A good thing.
poor don..
indeed lol
WTF!!!! Where's part2???? Good GOD!!!!!
spouting a soul from a mouth
Damnnnnn!!!!!
0 dislikes. Nuff said.
I think he was referring to those of us who play jazz.
jajajjaajjaaj
,no words
Yyyyyy
This might very well be possible ;).
That venue should have good fire insurance

This was before his lip injury.
Anyone know if this is before or after the lip injury?
And I never want to.
pre-lip injury w/ a Calicchio (3?)
This probably caused the lip injury! No, in all seriousness, this is an example of someone doing the impossible on the trumpet.
i thought he burned his lip on a crack pipe
There was nothing wrong with his chops!
He sounds like miles here and not just because hes using a mute,
didnt he get like punched in the mouth for some reason and stopped playing for a while? (face melting vid btw)
I just took a shed in my pants
About 15 bpm too fast
He sounds illiterate next to Clifford on this.
No trumpeter can touch Clifford’s solo except maybe Wynton, but to say he sounds illiterate here is insane 🤣
