Super Mario Bros. Wonder was announced at that very same Direct and released only four months later, for example.
They did the same thing for DKC Returns yesterday. It's so strange. A re-release is announced 7 months prior to release, but a brand new Zelda is announced 12 weeks before launch?
Metroid Prime gets revealed and shadow dropped on the same day, with massive visual improvements, but Luigi's Mansion 2 takes a year? Sounds like Nintendo tbh.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is going in the exact same direction, but it was announced seven months in advance instead. Maybe it just doesn't take as long to make, but it's still kinda weird.
Well Paper Mario TTYD was selling for around $100 before the announcement of the remake, but ya in the case of this game and DK Country Returns, those games are still fairly cheap.
That inflation part is key there. The increase isn't just corporation wants more money, it's people need more money to keep the business running and to keep their families from going hungry. $40 was standard for a decade and didn't shift with Western inflation. It only makes sense it would eventually go up. If we assume it's the same for the Switch era of games as it was with the DS systems, $60 should be a constant until Nintendo decides to innovate upon their hardware.
@Space97. Doesn't really change the point that developers need pay too and the business needs money to continue operating. The price increase was likely to guard against inflation. Now that it's as bad as it is, I can see why they're pushing the envelope and getting desperate with the sales of some games. I'm not saying I like it either, I'm just saying I understand the human element on the other side.

To put this in perspective, Kirby's Return to Dreamland on Switch had an artstyle uplift, a mini game mode consisting of old and new mini games, a new post game mode, masks they players can wear and crappy amiibo support. There is no excuse.
To be fair, the team behind the Kirby games really do seem to be super passionate about their projects and that really shows in the games released on the Wii onward. Forgotten Land was my game of the year over Elden Ring, that game brought me more genuine joy than any game had done in like five years lol
Luigi's Mansion 3 has sold over 14 million copies. Metroid Prime remake barely sold over a million. They know if even a quarter of the LM3 buyers buy Dark Moon they will make bank. At this point I doubt we get a Prime 2 or three remake unless it's super basic of a port.

Anecdotally, I went to buy it physically around when it came out and it wasn't in stock at my local gamestop for a few weeks at least, which caused me to buy it after March 31, 2023. I'm not sure if that was a common issue, but that could have caused it to sell a bit less than it could have before March 31.

I'm definitely buying it I had a goal like 3 years ago trying to attempt to 3 star every level but couldn't do it bc my 3ds screen blacked out in some places and I couldn't see anything so I actually have a good reason to get the remaster since I technically can't play it on 3ds and the game is probably cheaper than trying to either buy a whole new 3ds or somehow finding someone that fixes 3ds'
I don’t understand how the first game wasn’t involved at all I thought it could’ve been bundled with 2 or shadow dropped during the last direct it’s a big missed opportunity
Skyward Sword was kind of a mix; it was basically an up-res’d skyward sword, but they re-jigged the controls which was a real problem for people when it first released. They did some other quality of life bits as well, but not a huge amount, and I love that remaster as I got to play SS and enjoyed it!
I really wish that the first game was included. It would go a long way to making it feel a lot more worth buying. It’s just so weird to me that now we just don’t have the first game in the series on the switch when it’s the only one missing.
Another thing that’s really weird is how long it’s taken to come out. Both this and TTYD were announced at the same direct but TTYD had so much more done to it and it released like two months before, which is really confusing, especially also considering Metroid and Pikmin being shadowdropped when this seems to have as much done to it as Pikmin and definitely way less to Metroid yet it’s been almost a year since reveal
TTYD is basically a remake rather than a remaster. It's just very similar to the original in terms of gameplay. It does not run on the same graphics engine as the original game. That's why the game runs at a lower framerate than the Gamecube original. Metroid Prime Remastered and Luigi's Mansion 2 HD are remasters because they are not built from the ground up.
@@imgomes6425 I know TTYD is a remake that’s why I said it was insane to be announced at the same time as this simple upscaling of Luigi’s Mansion 2 and release so much sooner

@ausgod538 Fair point. However, the problem with _Luigi's Mansion 2 HD_ is that, for being priced at a full $60, it really doesn't have much to justify it aside from better-looking graphics. The original game was $40 and was put on the Nintendo Selects line for $20. If it had new content made or had the 3DS remake of _Luigi's Mansion 1_ bundled with it, then the $60 price tag would be more understandable to a lot more people.
People may think im lying but I remember luigi's mansion 2 being called luigi's mansion dark moon. I feel like i'm in a mandele effect moment right now.
I'm really excited to play this again! I wish they were marketing it better and a lower price, but I'm still gonna get it regardless. Would love to see a review from you, Arlo.
It's so baffling that this is a thing. The superior LM3 that was made ground up for the Switch exists.... and they want to charge full price for an up-res 3DS port?...🤯
With the marketing being so barebones in general, they really should've done Side-by-side Comparisons in the trailers because this is a perfect example of those "how I thought the game looked" memes. The art style is kept so intact that you legitimately need to do a "spot the difference" in order to see that the environments have more polygons and better textures. Like you said the character models are the only obvious improvements because not even the lighting engine is that big of an upgrade. It's not like they're hiding that this is a remaster, the game literally has "HD" in the title so why do they refuse to show footage of the 3DS version? It's like Nintendo expects everyone to remember exactly what the original versions looked like or something when I can guarantee you that having an actual Side-by-side comparison would improve sales. It wouldn't be by much because most of the sales will come from people who don't have a 3DS but if most people think "all they did was smooth out the character models" they aren't going to be the game when it's on sale for $30 much less pay a full $60. Either they should've remade the first game alongside this one or cut the price because this ain't worth $60 unless you lost your 3DS or are a diehard Luigi's Mansion 2 fan.
You waited until nearly the end of the video to mention it, but I'm glad you got there eventually: this is the first opportunity we've had to play this game on a console (i.e. on a big television screen). In my opinion, it cannot be overstated just how huge this is. Luigi's Mansion 2 was a great game that was utterly hamstringed by being exclusively on the 3DS. That was massively disappointing to me, because Luigi's Mansion (the first one, on the GameCube) was one of the first games my family owned, and I would play it in the living room while my three siblings watched and vicariously enjoyed the kid-friendly scares. I would have loved to do the same with Dark Moon, but that was impossible. It always seemed weird to me that it got relegated to the handheld. Yes, $60 *is* a lot, but I'll gladly pay it for a chance to play this game as (in my opinion) it was always meant to be! The only weird thing to me is that we didn't also get a remake of the original in tandem with this.
I loved Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon. I didn’t mind the mission structure at all. Playing a mission at a time was like reading a chapter of a book at a time. It gave you an optimal place to stop and a good place to return whenever you were ready. But I can see it being annoying if you wanted to do many missions at a time. But I don’t think they could have removed that structure because, if I remember correctly, some missions changed key things about the mansions and you’d have to spot the differences. But speaking of underwhelming ports, so help me if Donkey Kong Country Returns HD does not have Funky Kong. Gonna buy it either way, though… 😅
I don't love or hate the mission structure, it has pros and cons. But I will say the variety in the game imo is much better than LM1 or 3. Having multiple distinct locations feels more refreshing than one large one imo (and the mansion/museum location was pretty large anyway if memory serves).
the youtuber irony is theres the NA trailer literally a few hours after this, came here from that. but yknow, a week before and noting changed from Japanese trailer other than translation
It's true that it's a barebones port but i'm still incredibly excited because I love this game, and more importantly, becuase i'll get to play online Scarescraper again. LM2 Scarescraper is legitimately one of my most favorite games to play online, so to have the Switch port essentially bring back the online and the comunity from the dead makes me so happy
Metriod Prime 1 even looks amazing and cost $40. This looks... fine... and is $60. Mario vs DK was fully redone and $50. Pikmin 1 AND 2 is $50. Very weird to me.
Okay so obviously this being $60 is ridiculous and they shouldn’t be charging that much for a remaster, but I also feel like Arlo is underselling just how much remodeling has been done for this game. Like, if they put the original out on Switch and “just upresed” it, you would be able to tell lmao. I just don’t feel like he’s giving the devs enough credit because they put some genuine work into making this game look better than it did 10+ years ago
it sucks to be an older gamer and have to pretend all these remakes and remasters of games i played years ago are remotely interesting because there's little stuff going out these days that it isn't a remake.
Personally, I don’t even care that they are literally just porting it over with HD graphics! They need to just do that with more games. This game is important to be ported over. For achieve purposes. We NEED backlogs of games. And this game is one of my favorites so I’m glad.
It’s really unfortunate that they redid all the assets, yet the game still looks EXACTLY like the 3DS version at first glance thanks to the not-so-fancy lighting
They only redid the character models, just look at the furniture and the walls. You can easily tell they're low poly 3DS assets that have been dragged into HD with new lighting.
Considering the original game was only $40 and you can get it easily still these days for $20 this is insane. At least with Paper Mario the original game was like $150 on eBay
Compared to how they marketed the heck out of Paper Mario before release it is so scarily quiet for this game. I wouldn't mind the low effort for this port at all, if it wasn't wayyy to overpriced for what it actually is.
You know reusing the Luigis Mansion 3 engine and remaking the entire Luigis Mansion 2 game with it (which wouldn’t even require any new level design) would be much much easier than it was to make Luigis Mansion 3. Yet they’re the same price… I wasn’t expecting that kind of Remake for Luigis Mansion 2 whatsoever but the same price for an upscale port as the newest game is kind of a scam
Arlo, come on. Sometimes It's just about making a game available for people who didn't get the chance to play it on other consoles. We need to normalize relaunching games without some massive grandiose reason for it to happen. Now, for the price thing, yeah if old games are worth less, then it should be cheaper.
I’m really hoping there’s SOMETHING new and improved about LM2 HD. Something that would make me wanna get this game again, other than JUST the new model(s) and textures. If nothing is new or tweaked about the levels, what’s the point of getting it again? LM2 deserves so much more than just being a simple port.
Some small corrections: -The game wasn't 60fps, it was unlocked FPS. So it ran anywhere from 20fps to 60, was pretty inconsistent based on the scene and what 3DS could handle. -You're right, character models are the most changed (and clearly based on their LM3 conterparts), but they *have* upgraded many of the models. Most of them are simple subdivisions that make them a bit more rounded/high poly, but there are others where some legitimate detail has been modeled in. Will say though, really not a fan of the look, subjectively speaking. Its just kinda unappealing with how inconsistent the level of detail is from object to object.
Ya know, I got so used to these sorts of remasters that I never really thought about it... They did....not so much work. Then again, im pirating them, so I never noticed my entire savings draining after playing them

Dark moon is basically a perfect game already, all you need to do to make it perfect is make egadd mutable/ skippable and maybe make the mansions free roam able. (Make the mission structure a toggle) Boom, best Luigi’s mansion game
If the new version changed to free-roam and dual-stick controls are the standard setting, Luigi's Mansion 2 would actually be a MUCH more enjoyable game. But that would actually require Nintendo to put EFFORT behind it.

@@peacockmenace Thing is Dark Moon/2 is just a meh game. I never was a fan of the mission-based structure where you keep getting kicked out of levels and, aside from the first boss and the final boss, every boss in the game isn't too fun (one of the bosses has a very poor battle mechanic incorporated in for that fight only). I still have the 3DS version of it and I am just like "Eh I'll play this $40 game I've bought nearly a decade ago instead" lol
@@peacockmenacebut the game is already long enough. I don’t think they needed to add new content. I think maybe looking on par with LM3 would have been justifiable.
I honestly think we should harp on the price more.
And not even buy it for that matter. They keep doing it because people don't even bother putting up a fight.
@@zeospark9715totally agree. Dark Moon for sure the worst of the series, and really not that fun. Not missing out on anything if one happens to have a spare 3DS around and wants to play it over switch
There has to be SOMETHING new. The original game was only $40. Granted the economy has changed since then, but still. Charging a 50% markup for an HD upscale of a game that has already been fully written, designed, coded, play tested etc...is asinine. If they completely rebuilt the engine, that's one thing. But c'mon.
Citra, Citra, Citra. There are archives of it still. You can still use it. Do it
The only wrong thing is the price.
Correct
I think if this were Luigi's Mansion 1+2 you could make a case for the price. It isn't, though.

I was gonna say that, it doesn’t necessarily need anything else other than the price change
And the fact they brought mid to the switch
I think it looks good. My only problem is that it's $60 for what seems to be the same game with enhanced visuals, animations, and some quality of life improvements.

why is this just luigi's mansion 2 and not a collection of the first 2, especially since there is a version of lm1 on 3ds. it makes literally no sense

I just wanted to point out that the 1.09 million sales figure for Metroid Prime Remastered was from March 31, 2023 with the game only having been released digitally on February 8, 2023 and physically on February 22/March 3 2023 (depending on region), so it has definitely sold more than that at this point. Anecdotally, I went to buy it physically around when it came out and it wasn't in stock at my local gamestop for a few weeks at least, which caused me to buy it after March 31, 2023. I'm not sure if that was a common issue, but that could have caused it to sell a bit less than it could have before March 31.

Arlo: Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD is remarkably unremarkable
Nintendo probably: THAT’S OUR CUE! DROP THE TRAILER NOW
Nintendo of America just uploaded a 4 minute trailer! You summoned them.
I think Nintendo saw your video and finally decided to upload that overview trailer lol. Edit: Your points are still valid.
When you're watching a video on how there's not a trailer and the trailer comes on as an ad.... XD
Literally the next day they drop the full trailer Arlo asked for.
Of course Nintendo releases an overview trailer the day after Arlo releases this video.
They posted an overview trailer, 4 minutes long, just an hour ago when writing this comment.
Y'all this is exactly like the Luigi's Mansion 1 remake on the 3DS that they released right before the end of the 3DS 💀
I don’t understand how the first game wasn’t involved at all I thought it could’ve been bundled with 2 or shadow dropped during the last direct it’s a big missed opportunity
Damn, you have power over Nintendo, Arlo. Can you convince them to quickly drop The Wind Waker? Thanks, man!
100% agree
Luigi’s Mansion 1 is 🐐
Another thing that’s really weird is how long it’s taken to come out.
And also with Pikmin it was two games shadowdropped, this is ONE game there’s no LM1 so WHY has it taken this long?
@@GalaxyJakeYTSome people are saying it’s purely to fill in some holes for where a game release should be.

The controls not being dual stick is honestly a dealbreaker. That was the whole appeal of it being re-released at all.
It is dual-stick. Look at the settings menu in the new gameplay footage. There is an option for using the right stick to aim
Wait seriously? That’s like, the one bare minimum thing I expected

It's cool that we're getting remasters and ports for the Switch in-between the big new games, but if a re-release of a single game is going to be the same exact price as a brand new Switch game, we should expect more effort to be put in them.

What’s funny is that this morning Nintendo of America uploaded a 4 minutes long overview trailer for it 🤣
I'm actually super excited for this game because I've never played Dark Moon
reminds me when they randomly dropped LM1 port to the 3ds
LM3 remaster for the Switch 3 confirmed (?)
People may think im lying but I remember luigi's mansion 2 being called luigi's mansion dark moon. I feel like i'm in a mandele effect moment right now.
No Mandela Effect, that was indeed its name in America
Ironically, if they dropped Starfox 3ds on the switch in the SAME WAY, I would actually really happy.
Wait a second why the hell was Metroid prime remaster 40 and Luigi mansion 60 that is complete bull and I’m glad you brought it up
Not even a day later and they’ve now posted the overview trailer
Hilarious the English overview trailer just dropped when I went to watch this
The narrator in that overview trailer kinda sounded like arlo for some reason. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure.
I’m still excited for it. This game is a giant nostalgia bomb for me and I haven’t been able to play it for years after my 3ds broke.
I'm really excited to play this again! I wish they were marketing it better and a lower price, but I'm still gonna get it regardless. Would love to see a review from you, Arlo.
It's so baffling that this is a thing. The superior LM3 that was made ground up for the Switch exists.... and they want to charge full price for an up-res 3DS port?...🤯
they literally just uploaded a trailer like 6 hours after you uploaded this
With the marketing being so barebones in general, they really should've done Side-by-side Comparisons in the trailers because this is a perfect example of those "how I thought the game looked" memes.
Me less than 24 hours later:
Uh, about that…
You waited until nearly the end of the video to mention it, but I'm glad you got there eventually: this is the first opportunity we've had to play this game on a console (i.e. on a big television screen).
Luigi always gets the back end of the boot...
Well Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD finally got an overview trailer a day after this video came out. Who would’ve thought?
I like the mission structure as well. Never got the hate for it.
I don't love or hate the mission structure, it has pros and cons. But I will say the variety in the game imo is much better than LM1 or 3. Having multiple distinct locations feels more refreshing than one large one imo (and the mansion/museum location was pretty large anyway if memory serves).
Highly dissapointed that theres no coop like on the 3ds remake of 1
Ironic. The overview trailer has come out right now
the youtuber irony is theres the NA trailer literally a few hours after this, came here from that. but yknow, a week before and noting changed from Japanese trailer other than translation
Scarescraper is the whole reason why I'm getting it lol, it's so good, so much replay value
I loved the online as well, the one thing I'm wondering is if maybe they added couch coop to it, but probably not ?

The price tag really is the only problem here. I’d be fine with everything- even the lack of control options- if it was just like a $20 game
Wish we would have just gotten the first Luigi’s Mansion remastered. Would have been way better.
This aged like McDonald's fries 😂
Glad that doesn’t cost $60
Personally, I don’t even care that they are literally just porting it over with HD graphics! They need to just do that with more games. This game is important to be ported over. For achieve purposes. We NEED backlogs of games. And this game is one of my favorites so I’m glad.
It’s really unfortunate that they redid all the assets, yet the game still looks EXACTLY like the 3DS version at first glance thanks to the not-so-fancy lighting
they didn’t redo all the assets lmao
They only redid the character models, just look at the furniture and the walls. You can easily tell they're low poly 3DS assets that have been dragged into HD with new lighting.
Kinda aged like milk knowing we have a overview trailer.
Especially compared to Monster Hunter Stories 1, which looks like they put in the same amount of effort, but it's only $30.
Considering the original game was only $40 and you can get it easily still these days for $20 this is insane. At least with Paper Mario the original game was like $150 on eBay
Well this video didn’t age well
lol
pls explain...
They just released a 4 minute trailer on this game
Compared to how they marketed the heck out of Paper Mario before release it is so scarily quiet for this game. I wouldn't mind the low effort for this port at all, if it wasn't wayyy to overpriced for what it actually is.
You know reusing the Luigis Mansion 3 engine and remaking the entire Luigis Mansion 2 game with it (which wouldn’t even require any new level design) would be much much easier than it was to make Luigis Mansion 3. Yet they’re the same price… I wasn’t expecting that kind of Remake for Luigis Mansion 2 whatsoever but the same price for an upscale port as the newest game is kind of a scam
everyday i question why they announced this game a whole year before its release when theres so little notable about the remaster

Some small corrections:
-The game wasn't 60fps, it was unlocked FPS.
