As addition i tend to use a dry paintbrush to reach al the grit in difficult to reach places in blasters. Learned it in the servicing of sound and light equipment in the past. Hilariously I was giving some maintenance today on a falconfire, strongarm and firestrike with basically the same tools. Nice video!
Lots of thrifting = lots of maintenance. I have a back log of blasters to get to, but should be done every so often on whatever blaster you use. I use a bit of rubbing alcohol too if its really dirty, just don't get it on the o-rings. Well done!
Oh man, I heard advice to lube the moving parts before, but it didn't occur to me to not lube the catch for some reason. Might be why the nitefinder I modded as a kid didn't work lol. Helpful video
Very jelly of the OMW kit. Have you tried the Worker half dart/breech kit parts for the EAT? I want to gas one up to as close to 120FPS as I can get for HvZ, can't find many actual hands-on reviews of the Worker kit.
My half-dart Alpha Trooper has been failing to catch recently, maybe it just needs a nice cleaning. Thanks for the reminder to give blasters some TLC every now and again.
That's unfortunately an issue some alpha troopers have (or develop). There's an upgraded catch on thingiverse you could try or just increasing the catch spring strength.
@@doublestriker4952 I don't remember if I have an OMW catch in the blaster or not. If I don't, I might have one floating around somewhere that I can try.
Assuming you are using the Worker kit, try padding the front cavity of the plunger rod head. I cut a couple of craft foam discs to fit, glued them together and carefully inserted them from the front of the plunger tube. Works like a charm now. I searched about this and read that, if you upgraded the spring, the prime rod bends just a little too much under the weight, leading to the plunger not moving back far enough to catch. Padding the plunger rod head gives you just a few mils more to make the catch.
@@howardlee8074 I am using the Worker kit along with the Blaster Parts reinforced priming bar. I don't remember what strength spring I have in there, I'm getting around 130fps though. I'll keep your advice in mind when I get to opening up the blaster, but even if I use my hand to pull back on the bolt sled, the plunger won't catch consistently. So I think it's something gummed up or worn away back there.
I am very curious why you have left the mechanical locks in place. The blaster should work very well even with them installed. I like to remove them as part of a basic setup just to further simplify the internals especially with maintenance. I'm not saying there's a right or wrong way. It just caught my eye! Thanks, Captain!
Sure, like you said this isn't an assurance that the blaster will work, but there's always a chance things won't work. While that chance can't be removed entirely, maintenance will reduce the chance of a malfunction when done properly. The steps you've shown in the video don't seem like they could ever cause a malfunction, so if it jams after the maintenance, it was going to jam anyway.
@Vessick soo you can still pick up the blasterparts kit that has a stronger primingnrod 8kg spring, and worker still sells their half dart conversion kit that has like a 10kg spring. However the 2 parts captain had the metal catch and trigger are gone gone. OMW had preorders for the wave 2 of the kit and never launched it, so those parts are very hard to find since no one sells them or makes them anymore. The crappy thing is, you kinda need the metal catch for higher spring loads past like 5kg :( ive been looking for one myself so i know the pain lol
It is on the list but honestly, just watch the Rampage teardown. It is similar enough internally that it should give you a pretty good idea of where everything goes.
I'm looking for advice on a build. If I have a plunger tube with an ID of ¾ inch (0.750) how much smaller is recommended for plunger head diameter? 5 thou smaller? 10 thou? If I intend to use an O ring with an OD of ¾" (0.750) and an ID of ⅝" (0.625) do I cut the groove for it right at 5/8? Or do I not cut it that deep and leave it shallow by 5 or 10 thou to compress the O ring a little?
Random question Captain: Did you like the bionicle series, and if so what would be your favorite team? I liked the bohrak due to them being able to roll up into balls and have strike action
Not really? I appreciate that they saved Lego in the early 2000's. But being and old school Lego nerd I will always be a little "get off my lawn" about Bionicle. Which is a shame because I understand it has a very rich lore.

Helpful for cleaning up thrifted blasters too

Thank you Captain! I’m very excited for HvZs this season (hopefully I can make it to one). Bangarang!
This is very relaxing. And reminds me I need to service my worker half dart alpha trooper. Can't wait to see you at UMBC again.
I tried building one of those, and it never worked right it wouldn’t catch and the pump wouldn’t go all the way back
That was informative and satisfying. Thank you.
I like to use canned compressed air (think keyboard duster) to clean out internals.
Fun fact, (cross-hobby info sharing). Super Lube is good safe and can be found at local hardware stores.
food safe?
As in "not toxic". My wife uses it to maintain the Kitchen Aid and Hobart mixers in the restaurants she works in.

I've been wanting a video like this. Thank you!
Wonderful guide. Thanks!

I have helped build one...I would absolutely NOT trust it in an HvZ. It will jam and you will die.
@CaptainXavier Solid copy. I'll try the printable/brass barrel and breach one. Thank you for responding, saves me $40 and the pain!

Exactly. Maintenance absolutely helps and should be done.
Thank u it helps me a lot
Where can I find the Orange Mod Works kit you used for the Alpha Trooper?
Sadly, you can no longer buy them
@@kailebdv Any alternatives to it, like the individual parts?

@CaptainXavier Thank you sir, I'll do that.
Dear Captain Xavier, could you please do a review on the shellington kirin?Would be sniffy
Sure! Send one on over, and I'll take a look! Much appreciated!

I have absolutely no idea. The minutia of springer design is not my specialty. You need to reach out to Captain Slug or Sillybutts for that info.
I’ve never been this early. Wow

I have an original alpha trooper that hits about 75 FPS
5 years still the same
Old yellow nstrike blaster are really unreliable, the jam rate is pretty high, wouldnt trust them in any kind of game.
Agreed...but this isn't a Yellow N-Strike blaster.
@@CaptainXavier my bad,great video.
No worries. Easy mistake. This is the orange reskin of the blue Elite Alpha Trooper.
