    I have loved Zheng's game since i first heard og her a couple of years ago. Her clean strokes and aggressive style are refreshing, but that tweener was outstanding. I don't see many women running that well to catch most lobs already over their heads. Maria gets shaky but this time she stayed focused and pulled off the win.

    Zheng needs an additional coach who is good with match strategies. With her skills and power, there is no way she keeps bowing out in first or second round in almost every tournament. A strategist who teaches her how to play each opponent to their weakness will help Zheng to get a title quickly.

    • @打倒前苏联
      @打倒前苏联 Год назад +4

      Good point, and she also needs a better coach to help with some key tactics: her return game is seriously sub-par. No other top-30 players stand that far behind the baseline for second serves! She is so afraid of moving up that her opponents can always getting off the hook by serving long and wide. Right now it is just so difficult for her to convert break points, against even average servers. It will take a real expert to fix this problem. Her current coach seems to have done his best already.

      During the third set Zheng injured her wrist and received medical treatment. I think Maria was kindly asking if she’s ok. That’s probably what the shrug-off is all about. Zheng cannot be “too happy” after a tough loss, but the handshake looks pretty standard at WTA.

    @Shilo1987 Год назад +3

    With the caveat that she's talented and has upside:
    The disparity between Qinwen's actual results and the amount of hype she gets is absurd at this point. Her biggest achievements on court so far are taking a set from Iga at RG and losing a 500 final to Samsonova, yet the tennis media + tennis fans on social media act like she's the second coming. Is it because she's conventionally pretty? Is this inevitable for younger players from big tennis markets? Whatever it is, she's not backing up what she's selling right now.

    • @zweigackroyd7301
      @zweigackroyd7301 Год назад +12

      With your last sentence, you seem to be criticizing her. The hype isn't on her, and in this case not on the WTA. It's just a few fans who are clearly getting under your skin. Any young player who has a few good results immediately has people commenting on how they are "guaranteed" to win multiple Grand Slams, are a future number 1, blah blah blah. Of course it's absurd. But she's out there doing her job. And you do seem to ignore (intentionally?) that she clearly has a great energy and attacking style, has shown a great tendency to go for her shots and not play it safe, etc. Whatever her career turns out to be, being a fan of what she is bringing right now is hardly unreasonable.

    • @jliang70
      @jliang70 Год назад +3

      Well, how old is she? She has times to sell what she got in the game and I will leave that judgement in a few years time.

    • @staycalmandcarryon6970
      @staycalmandcarryon6970 Год назад +4

      @@zweigackroyd7301 sorry, however, you can clearly see that there is a bias towards her. The highlights are 95% of her shots, two of Maria making a mistake and then perhaps 3 shots of Maria winning shots. After watching that highlight, it had nothing to do with the match but just one player. This is the @WTA highlights and who they want to promote! If it was a fan posting the highlights I could agree with you.

    • @zweigackroyd7301
      @zweigackroyd7301 Год назад

      @@staycalmandcarryon6970 lol, this is one of the oldest whines in the book, and especially ridiculous if you use logic for a second. I know this is really hard to grasp, but they have two goals - limit the amount of time editing and post interesting shots, not a statistical recreation of the match. There is no nefarious WTA plot, but if believing that makes you happy - have you run across Einars?

    • @打倒前苏联
      @打倒前苏联 Год назад +3

      Funny comment. I don’t see her selling anything. She is just a hard working athlete with tangible achievements and huge potential that the entire WTA are on notice. Even if there are hype and promotion, as you suggest, it is not Qinwen’s fault. If anything, she is more of a victim than beneficiary of them, having been exposed to such great pressure and high expectation at age 20. I hope you can put things in perspective: Maria is 27 and has got only one title, what’s the rush here?
