Seems utterly pointless to ever switch characters. Unless you want to break the game with either Tails or Knuckles. In that case, never use Sonic.

Hi, one of the authors here. Sonic is just much slower in many levels 😊 he is selected in those levels where he actually can beat the level faster than the others.
