- William Robinson is one of England’s most influential gardeners and garden writers. He called Gravetye Manor home from 1885 when he purchased the home until his death in 1935.
William Robinson promoted the notion of what he called “wild gardening”. The idea is to select plants that will thrive in their chosen locations without a lot of cost and maintenance.
Robinson was vocal about his dislike for the Victorian idea of bedding out plants. He hated overly formal gardens and used the Palace of Versailles as his example of what not to do 😉.
The readings in the video are from the book The Wild Garden by William Robinson with Rick Darke.
Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the tour. I have found that my garden is much lovlier since i stopped imposing my will on it by allowing the plants to naturalize themselves.
I think the idea of finding plants that are suited for a space is the way to go. It makes things so much easier.
Just magical❤Thank you for sharing, you video is so well done
Thank you so much!
Worth mentioning that Gravetye Manor is today a very high end -- and very lovely -- hotel and restaurant. The gardens are well preserved and the restaurant's vegetable gardens are planted in a manner that would please William Robinson.
That walled kitchen garden was incredible, wasn't it? So glad it is being care for.
Beautiful home and gardens 🥰
It's a gorgeous place to visit.
Thank you for the kindness of this fine information
I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
