  • Yes I try to avoid fusions, but if the patient needs it- let’s do it! This is an ALIF cage. When I do surgery, I use what I consider are the newest and best technologies

Watching your channel has helped enrich my decision making process of going forward with my L4-L5-S1 fusion next month with Dr. V. in Tulsa. A couple years ago I consulted with a surgeon in the area who was well-reviewed but his patient engagement was poor in my book. Even through three office visits. I have the benefit of the doubt the first couple thinking maybe it was a rough day. But it never improved.
Thankfully I found one who is excellently-reviewed, is equipped with a friendly demeanor and is willing to answer my questions and concerns. God-willing I will get some relief and be able to live life again.

How are you doing 6 months postoperative.

    • @CavanalK5
      @CavanalK5 11 месяцев назад

@@SJ-nl6xlI have rough days. Most days are pretty good. My doc definitely undersold the pain. It was BAD for a while. At this point I feel better than I did before the procedure so that is a plus. At my 5 month mark, the doc said the bone growth around the blocks looked more like that of the typical patient at 7-8 months. I’m pretty active, and probably do too much at times pushing the limits, and some overdoing it too. I get some pretty good swelling at the low back area, especially the lower left quadrant where it was the wrist before surgery. I believe there is somE SI joint issues in there. From the follow up x rays he said it looked decent. We’ll keep an eye on it and allow the rest of the repaired areas to finish healing. I use ice packs still on the lower back quite often, especially at night.
I do find that I hurt my sleeping on my stomach. I do ok on my sides, but laying on my stomach with a knee pulled up with he inner knee more flat on the bed used to be my favorite sleeping position. Now it feels like it puts pressure on the actual fusion site. If I lay in one spot for a long time, it’s pretty painful to turn over. Laying on my side hugging a body pillow and with it between my knees is most comfortable now. Or on my back with the foot of the bed raised up.
Mobility is pretty good. When I get tired or a lot of inflammation, I have to get somewhere and sit or lay down. Still it’s better than pre-op shape I was in.
I would totally do it again. I would plan for longer off work. I work from home for the most part and travel by car for a lot. I’ve keep on a 30-min and then a 1-hr driving radius to keep from sitting too long and driving, as that is pretty rough. On me. I was completely off for 7 weeks and wish I had been off about 10. Even just sitting up at a computer was pretty painful when I first went back.
Definitely get a walker, a good cane, a good grabber handy. A stool or nightstand that is tall and easy to reach. Lots of pillows available to find comfort. Flip flops for around the house. Or other comfy slip on that won’t trip you up. Toilet riser was a must. Didn’t get a toilet tissue tool but borderline needed one. I reached to take care of business once, and my back popped down there and scared the hell out of me. Prepare yourself the best you can. Get you a shower chair, do some practice runs pretending you can’t bend. Get your shampoos ready. A loofa on a stick. A way to dry off if you don’t have a helper. Flip flops or slippers to put on so you don’t risk sliding with a wet bare foot. Put stuff in the pantry and fridge at easy to reach level. Think about every single little move you make during your day and go through those motions to see what you beee to modify. Get on Amazon and order some huge gel ice packs. Get 3 or 4 so you can rotate them out if needed or to cover multiple areas. I had big swelling on my left love handle in addition to the low back . Stick a gel pack in a pillowcase to lay on. Especially if you don’t wear a shirt. Some of that area will hurt but it will also feel dead and you can overdo it on ice and not realize it.
Fortunately my wife is wonderful and a major help.
I can still move a certain way and hear/feel the hardware creaking. Supposed to be normal, but I sure hope it goes away.
My neck is going to need attention next and I’m not looking forward to that.
Best wishes on your experience! Holler if you have any follow up questions.

At least you try to avoid surgery and fusions as a first. I hope more people get to know about the 'CLEAR' physio method for scoliosis as time goes on. A long fusion has been my biggest regret.

I recieved 3 fusions in 2019 and 2020 im literally dying in pain every single day of my life. First fusion failed when i stepped off a short step 3months after 1st surgery they redid that one and added another level to the fusion and then did my neck and went 4 levels up there. Sure as shit cost $800k but i dont feel like a million bucks... dont think i ever will.

How do you know if a patient needs a fusion vs a disc replacement or something minimially invasive? I have a c6 c7 issue and my surgeon wants to do a fusion but i dont want it. Im a 35 year old truck driver but i deliver fuel so i lift heavy hoses. I also ride motorcycles. I dont want to be out of work for 6 months with a fusion or lose motion because i also have 1mm or so protrusions above. I dont want to damage them more and need another fusion. Trying to find my best route to continue to live the way i do. Help please.

Hey there, I do about 15 new patient telemedicines💻🌎 every week. Here is the best path forward:
1- email your insurance card to Spine@TSCspine.com (We don’t take HMOs or Medicaid, but can private pay, unless Medicaid)
2- if we take that insurance THEN upload your images to my portal for our 1st visit.
3- I must have X-rays and MRI, X-rays are critical! “Just” MRI isn’t enough. Need to be from last 12 months. Nothing older is needed, or wanted.
4- You need to get your CD 💿 of your X-ray and MRI (imaging centers will never send them to us)
5- On the top of my website (www.DonnallySpine.com) is the link to UPLOAD images, from YOUR HOME! 🤯🥰 (or at a CVS with Physician LookUp Code k5037438)
6- To recap: email us, get CDs, THEN upload!
      Step by step:
      ruclips.net/video/HpKOfI_1FSs/видео.html
      -
If HMO you can reach out to a Patient Navigator at www.sonoSpineSurgery.com and they can try to help connect us! Or for HMOs email: Refer@sonospinesurgery.com

Hey can i ask you how serious is a 3mm x 6mm t6-t7 thoracic disc protrusion that is posterocentral? I'm scared this will lead to spinal cord damage? I can't find information on how many mm is bad for that area, I'm only 29 and I'm just worried how this will effect my life or things to be worried for the future, i was in severe pain, it's almost been 3 months and still have tongling/nimbness/ prickling and stiffness but less pain.

I wonder if it would be possible to create an artificial and articulating disc out of PEEK and something along the lines of Wharton’s jelly. My father had a fusion in the early 2000s on his L3-5 and it has caused alot of cervical problems with degenerative discs as well as not being the most well executed fusion to begin with. Is there any way of preserving what mobility he has left?
