Can Michigan’s defense stop Washington’s passing game to win the National Championship?
• Can Michigan’s defense...
Can Michigan win it all?
@JoelKlattShow Yes, keep the pressure on Penix and trust your back end DB's to make some plays. Rely on our offense with long sustained drives, utilizing Blake . . .We can win this. BTW, love your story and faith, Joel!
Of course. So can Washington
Joel, I have to break this down easy for you......
Washington has the 90th ranked overall defense and 119th ranked pass defense, making it the worst defense that Michigan has faced all season.
Michigan has the #1 defense in the country.
What wins championships?
The best offense Michigan played all year was Ohio State - #47 offense in the nation. Big 10 weak with QB's and offense this year. Even Alabama does not even have a Top 50 offense. We simply DO NOT KNOW of Michigan has an elite defense because that defense has not played even ONE good offense! Kinda easy to be contender for best defense in the nation when you don't play even one good offense! UW just beat the #2 offense (Oregon) and the #9 offense (Texas). If Michigan was playing great offenses all year like UW, Michigan would not have the #1 defense. @@JohnLougheed-d8i
Oh yeah...the days of winning nattys with scores like 10-7 and great defense are long gone. Look at the last 4 or 5 years - the National Championships are won with scores in the 30's to the 60's! The average national championship game winner averages over 40 points in final game! Defense is great but nowadays you gotta put points on the board too! @@JohnLougheed-d8i
As a mi fan I'm so proud of the way the fans showed up at the rose bowl. That shows how much believe in this ball club there is. Hope our fans show up in Huston. Go blue
What Joel doesn't mention in detail here is the efficiency of Michigan being able to run the ball against stout defenses like PSU and Ohio State. Long drives while breaking down a defensive line will benefit Michigan as the game gets long. Keeping WA's defense on the field will also wear down the Huskies' defense, and keep Penix on the bench.
That’s a fair point. That goes along with Joel’s analogy of Michigan being a boa constrictor.
@@scheung14 yes, I watched all of Joel‘s videos. Andy always talked about how great Michigan is ;however, he picked Alabama to beat Michigan. I totally agree with what you said Michigan is playing a defense which is marginal and then running the ball will wear down Washington’s defense go blue.
Sorry, not Andy. Joel always favored Michigan throughout the year and then he picked Alabama to beat Michigan. I was surprised.
Yep. Michigan beat the #2, #3, and #4 scoring defenses in the nation, primarily by running, and averaged 27pts against them (Penn St, ohio state, Iowa).
UM also is
-#1 scoring defense (10.2pts/gm)
-#1 defensive TDs (5)
-#2 pass yards allowed (150yds/gm)
For sure, I think matchup wise you have to favor Michigan, but even as an Ann Arbor native I can’t count out the penix passing attack cuz he’s just that talented, plus even though they were great against milroe, the secondary has still been seen as a weak point of the defense
I can’t believe the Joel Klatt show use to not exist. Great analysis as usual!
As a Michigan fan, this will be a fun game. Washington is a great team and Michigan is a great team. I’m just happy we will have a new national champion.
that's right the Boogeyman is gone from here which is the SEC conference
The Big 10 will be the new SEC starting next year.
@313soldier313 whoever offers more money to these recruits will be the best team. Difference between michigan + washington against teams like Bama, Oregon, Georgia. BOTH want it more... but who wants it more between these two will win
I don’t think people understand how long Joel has been covering Michigan now. This analysis is exactly how Coach Harbaugh adjusted after the Covid year and couldn’t have been more accurate. Joel is the 🐐
The best voice and analysis in college football. Thank you Joel!
Joel is arguably the best voice in college football; however, I have forgiven him for picking Alabama to beat Michigan. I’ve watched all of his broadcasts And he used to respect Michigan more so than other teams, and has the famous quote Michigan is like a bullet constructor. I truly believe that Texas does not have a good enough defense against Michigan 35, Washington 27
@@DougalsBrooks 😳 ???
It’s a shame he turned into a Company Hack conveniently forgetting that Michigan is a program devoid of any ethics.
Washington does not have the best defense in Michigan will exploit that weakness. Jim Harbaugh may be quirky, weird and odd; however, he is a great coach, and so glad he’s at Michigan go blue.
And your defense won't stop Washington bet me. 22-0 coming up.

@@MiaSoreryOF… Don’t sleep on UW’s defense, while the rankings don’t look great they get timely turnovers and pressure the QB well I’m big moments, and have all year … And keep in mind they’ve faced top offenses, Oregon twice and they have the best O in college football…
Mfs keep underrating this michigan pass defense I swtg they are battle tested from osu and Alabama WIll Johnson is getting 2 ints at least I guarantee it mark my words
I came back to listen to Joel's thoughts on the game at the time. He sounds like a prophet. This guy knows his football. Just amazing analysis.
Excellent well thought out assessment.
If Michigan plays a clean game overall then they will win. If Michigan makes mistakes like they did against Alabama then Washington has a good chance of winning. I’m a Michigan fan but I’m excited about this matchup. It’s fitting the last four team CFP has a B1G and PAC 12 team playing for the championship.
Michigan’s defense is elite and Washington’s defense not so much. I see JJ throwing for three touchdowns and the two awesome running backs totaling four. Go blue.
I don’t see us scoring 49 points if Michigan plays their way they win like 38-24 where wash scores a lot and racks up over 350 yards but Michigan takes 5-8 min to score which makes just 2-3 stops of the Washington offense would be all we would need if we control the clock and the end of the first half and beginning of the second half
They’ve cheated for the last 3 years. Why would you think anything would be clean
This.
@@DougalsBrooksdelusional
Long sustaining drives for Michigan is one of the best defenses against Washington. If Michigan can get pressure with their front 4, that will be huge too. I think their defense will be able to make enough stops
Great Points Joel Klatt!!!!
Michigan is bringing that heat on defense. Washington's center will be rushing the snap so he could get into position
No, he will not! He was dealing a with 1st DT on Texas who is T'Vondre Sweat who 6'4 and 360! Washington C is 6'3 and 280! He held his own well against him! Sweat was pushing the pocket!
@@arronfrazier7873you're not comparing Texas D to Michigan are you? Lol Look at the stats and come back to this conversation.
@@James-mm6jh he is comparing a possible first round draft pick. that texas d line handled the bama o line. Texas doesn't have the db's Alabama has. But they have some big guys that would start at Alabama. These are not the same Saban defenses that rolled through their schedule.
We rotate basically 2 nfl defensive lines , that Washington oline will get tired
How about cool it with the stats people! We all know playing in conference doesn’t show squat versus OOC teams. If anything, you revert to the mean than the extreme. People referring to stats all the time gets so friggin tiring.
I fully expect Penix to have a Herbert Rose Bowl type game. It's the final game of his career, the playcalling is going to be much more free and loose. I'd expect Penix to run a lot in this game and show flashes back to his Indiana days. Should be a great game!

week 15 of “what does MICHIGAN (the favorite) have to do to win” never “what does the underdog need to do?”. i love Joel but it’s ALWAYS BEEN MICHIGAN VS EVERYBODY. ITS BLATANT.
This matchup is probably as even as it gets. Washington's explosive offense gets tested against a tough Michigan defense. I wouldn't be surprised if this game also went into overtime
It’s not even though Michigan has the actual ability to slow down Washington. Washington doesn’t possess the ability to slow down Michigan. Their defense is atrocious.
@zandercerlong7238 They don't play defense in Pac 12. They just Air it out score points on each other that's it.
@@MiaSoreryOFwell i agree but that’s what everyone has said about a uw vs whoever matchup, and none of the times has it really slowed down penix or the offense. it’s gonna come down to whether michigan corners can slow down the offense and which offense can outrace the other to the endzone. it’s all up in the air, although michigans performance in the rose bowl wasn’t amazing so who knows
@@MiaSoreryOFand the defense is bad on uw, i’m just taking about slowing the offense
@@cameron8858 Michigan was rusty on special teams only that’s not something we did all year long to think it will happen Two games in a row it’s unlikely. Anyone who watches the Rose Bowl over again we’ll see that Michigan actually totally dominated Alabama on both sides of the ball. It was one of those games were the final score didn’t tell the whole story the fact is Alabama has 16 five star recruits and 35 four stars they are a harder team than Washington. We already know Michigan and can stop an exact offense that Washington has Michigan did it just one year ago with the same exact team who beat CJ Stroud, and the best wide receiver court in the country.
What am I missing here? " they got him down once." That simply not true. Try zero on the sacks. Please, what game is he talking about? They had (( 0)) sacks. How can you do a show and have your premise so off?
Beyond strange.
Nice breakdown Joel and GBR!
I thought that was an excellent breakdown and explanation as far as limiting possessions etc….. made total sense. I do think Penix gets his yards and some big plays, but against OSU and the last month of the season when things got tough they bent, but didn’t break. So, I tend to understand and agree with Joel that if we hold them to a couple FG’s that becomes a huge advantage for Michigan. Let’s face it, it’s going to be much harder for them to score on us, than it is for us to score on them.
Yes.
The highest ranked defenses in the top 50 that Washington has played this year:
Utah (13)
Oregon (22) x 2
Texas (34)
Oregon St (38)
Arizona (48)
Keep in mind that Washington hasn't had a win by more than 10 points since 9/30/23, so ALL of those games above were within 10 points. The average margin of victory in those 6 games was 4.67.
Michigan's defense is ranked #1.
good points to make
Those close games against good teams, means UW is way more battle tested than UM. They are built for this and proven everyone wrong, each and every week.

Interesting seeing this after the game, Joel is mostly correct!
A couple other points. Michigan always struggles after time off. Whether it is a bye week in the regular season or a bowl game. This game being a week from the semifinals is good for Michigan. As Joel pointed out Washington was a bad matchup for Texas, and they still had several plays from the 12 yard line to win the game. People are acting like Penix drove them down the field on every possession. Michigan however is a bad matchup for Washington. It isn't just Michigan's D Line that is good. Their defensive backs are excellent also. If Penix throws up 50/50 balls as he did in the Texas game that his stud receivers kept coming down with. Some of those will be picked off with Michigan's dbs. Penix will not be able to play the same game he did against Texas. If Michigan plays the way Saban would coach them this game isn't even close. I think Michigan wins 45 to 31. Giving Washington a late gimmie touchdown to get the 31.
Also, washington’s inside defense is not great against the run. their defense in general is not that great. I see Blake Corum having a field day and JJ also passes for 300 yards go blue I give respect to Washington for beating Oregon twice at one time I thought Oregon was the best team in the country, other than Michigan. I hope it’s an injury free game I think it could come down to whoever has the ball last, and it better not be Penix. Go blue.
Hope you’re right, but to be fair, many of those passes against Texas were well defended and the ball still found the Huskies receiver due to perfect ball placement.
I agree that the defensive backs will need to get physical with their receivers to disrupt timing. Penix often throws to the spot he knows the receiver is going to be, so it’s often based on timing.
letz go Washington Penix on a mission hes gonna tear it up they will be prepared to protect him at all costs against Mich defense
Washington hasn't faced a tital team like Michigan. Michigan can beat you on defense, rushing, passing and even special team. Washington beats you by passing the ball and trying to score without stopping anyone else. Penix is great, but Michigan is greater.
This point makes zero sense lol, Washington won their last game with a stop on defense, Dillon Johnson is a great running back. Penix is a single player, Michigan is an entire team 😭 tf you mean greater? That makes no sense

In a Championship game , I’m going defense all day everyday.Michigan by 10
Best Defense vs best offense let’s go!!
Of course. I'm convinced. Yes . Absolutely they can . UM hasn't in any of their last 6 games including PSU , OSU , MD , Iowa,Bama, had a elite pass scheme or game from JJ McCarthy and still won . It's been Defense and Blake Corum consistently and milk the clock . A diet no one in CFB really likes to watch but call , BORING 😂 UM Boa Constrictor belongs to KLATT 😆 it's the football IQ he has that brought that out. Facts 💯 . Washington isn't a defense juargger knot like UM . So now McCarthy absolutely can showcase all his talent if he makes good decisions. That's easy if you play run Blake Corum wisely and take what they give you football. UM wins Natty.
Michigan has never seen a QB, offensive weapons, coaching and scheme like Washington brings. OSU is not at same level - nope! It won’t be a blowout by either team.
@@SWest00072what?? 😂😂 they've seen way better in the past 2 years. This is almost the same team from 2 years ago. Michigan wins cause they have more experience. Period.. not only is Michigan familiar with playing Penix but they have beat Washington 2 years in a row. FACTS
I thought Michigan would easily beat TCU last year and major mistakes cost them the game. I thought Michigan would need a near perfect game to beat Bama and it was far from that, other than the defense. If Michigan plays clean I like their chances. If they make multiple major mistakes against Washington it will be the third year in a row the Wolverines come up short in the CFB playoffs. Looking forward to a great game and looking forward to the Huskies joining and strengthening the Big 10! Go Blue!!!
Not having to wait a month to play should help
I'm usually nervous for big games like these, but for some reason I am way more excited to watch this match up
Washington has been in games this year where the offense has had to play with a ton of urgency. Just look at all the close games that Washington managed to win this year, even when the offense struggled (ASU for example). UW is an anomaly and everyone has been betting against them all year, to the same result. They keep winning.
If Washington even slightly plays how they played against ASU it will be a blowout
Go Dawgs!!!!
Michigan played 77th ranked defense msu and scored 49 and played 85th ranked defense and scored 52. Huskies with 94th rank defense will struggle and Michigan can control the ball and time.
You talked about possessions being key in this game, yet not once has anyone been talking about Michigan having the ability to eat up the clock and keep the other offense off the field.
The thing is even the best defense won’t stop an unstoppable offense. Look at 2020 Alabama, 2022 Ohio State vs Georgia, 2019 LSU. If Washington has a great game plan their offense will score over 30
The UM D is so fired up that UW’s OL received the Joe Moore over UM’s while playing in a JV defensive conference. We didn’t need more motivation but we’re about to welcome Washington to the B1G….
Michigan has to run the football and keep the ball out of Penix hands. 40 carries 200 yards and just run the clock. Corum needs to be the bell cow and own this game.
If Washington is able to start fast and put UM in a hole early I like their chances. UM needs to keep up early and limit UW’s posessions.
Washington defense is terrible. Michigan can most likely keep up offensively if it Has to go there.
Michigan was in a shootout with TCU last year. Michigan offense actually scored more than TCU. It was the two pick sixes that JJ threw is why Michigan lost.
@@MiaSoreryOF Offense really put our defense in a BIG hole, 2 pick sixes and 2 fumbles inside the 5 and both turned over. 28 points right there left on the board. I don't blame our defense for that game one bit. But yeah really shot themselves in the foot that game.
Go Blue! 💙🏈💛🏆
So if Michigan isn’t built to stop a mobile qb then how did they do it Joel ?
Michigan will have to slow the WRs off the line. 2 sec passes are hard to stop if the wideouts are open
Hearing another analyst say “2021 shows they were built to beat a team like UW” in 2023 while leaving out so much context. Is Hutchinson/Ojabo coming back to play for the game on Monday? Scheme can be similar but personnel is very different which impacts the scheme
The defense is licking their chops at this offense
A lot of people picked alabama to beat Michigan. I think that helped motivate Michigan to prepare harder and play harder.
Now the opposite is happening. It seems everyone is picking Michigan. I have the utmost faith in this team but I hope they aren’t looking too far ahead.
Go blue!!!
Not really all the coaches picking Washington and one laughed about JJ being called good.
@@seanmcginnis7564 I don't think any coach in the country is laughing at JJ being called good. Any coach would want him
lol no, you may see it in comments sections and RUclipsrs that don’t know what they’re talking about, but many that do know what they’re talking about are saying that Michigan can’t stop Washington. Which may be true, Michigan is built to beat this style of offense, but it could prove to be too much for them. At the same time Michigan could surprise Washington and not give up a whole lot. Yet, Washington fans are so desperate to play the underdog role they have to manufacture it, just sad lol
I think an interesting comparison is if you go back to the division 2 national championship, Colorado school of mines had arguably the greatest D2 quarter back of all time as far as numbers and a prolific offense and Harding dominated them in that game from start to finish by playing good defense and controlling the ball all game long. Harding only threw 2 passes the entire game and beat them 38-7. Michigan is going to do something similar to Washington just at a higher level. If you haven’t watched that game I would suggest it. I’ve never seen a team dominate and leave another team demoralized from start to finish quite like that.
Harding grad here! Go Bison!
Yes if special team play better 😊
I think the biggest mistake for Michigan in this game is to play like they are not the better team. When they get ahead if Washington crowds the box and Michigan doesn't try to exploit the pass defense they are playing into Washington's hands. Their offense needs to play toward what Washington gives them for 60 minutes. That may not limit possessions but you can't play this game trying to win 14 to 0. Washington is capable of scoring even if unlikely of scoring in bunches. I remember watching Michigan dominated games and then adjust their play to try and sit on a lead. Only to hand the opposition momentum. By the time Michigan tries to get going again it is too late. In college football any team that tries to sit on a lead and run clock with more than 2:00 minutes left in the game are idiots. Only asking to get beat.
That is something you left out. This Michigan offense is much more dynamic than the ones playing OSU in 2019. In fact it is arguably better than Washington's offense. Certainly not as explosive, but far more balanced. I don't know that I agree totally with your analysis. I think if Michigan does get beat it will be because they tried to sit on a lead. I have never seen Nick Saban take his foot off the gas against a capable team. In college football momentum is huge. in doing that you are only asking to get beat. Act like you are the better team.
Arguably better than Washington's offense? That is laughable
Roman Wilson is your best receiver and he's average at best
Also, Washington has an 1100yd rusher in Dillon Johnson
@@xj2225 It's a fair point, they can run the ball against anyone and throw the ball well too
@@xj2225 Nothing laughable about it. The PAC 12 is the best conference top to bottom, but the Big 10 has the best defenses hands down. Against power 5 teams, Michigan has outscored better defenses by more points than Washington. They have done this pulling their starters early in the third quarter of half their games. Yes, Washington's offense is explosive, but TCUs offense was more explosive than Georgia's last year. How did that game turn out. Michigan should win this game by 3 touchdowns.
Go Blue!
It depends how good Penix is. If he is as good as Joe Burrow was Washington can take this game and make it one sided, but if Penix is more CJ Stroud than it is closer with Michigan advantage. If Penix isn’t as good as either of those two greats it could get very ugly for Washington. Also McCarthy is every bit as good as Penix and much better along the same development trail. The advantage Washington enjoys is greater depth and quality at wide receiver, but Michigan almost makes up for it at tight-end and running-backs. McCarthy is a real Junior and Penix is a sixth year senior. Just because Michigan did not have McCarthy throw the ball 30-40 times a game doesn't mean he isn't capable of it.
The biggest difference is as Penix goes, Washington goes. Michigan isn’t dependent on any one or two players even JJ McCarthy.
JJ is not as good as Penix. He has a better team around him. Better defense and better running game. The path to victory for Penix is more narrow. If the Washington o- line can protect Penix Washington can win. If not Michigan will win.
@@gordonschiff3621 You look at his passing statistics and McCarthy is every bit a good a Penix, he is three years younger, and he is much more mobile. His critical passing on third and forth down is significantly better than Penix. You talk about better team around him. What about a Joe Moore awarded offensive line who are mediocre run blockers? Almost any quarterback can shred a defense if given enough time.
Mccarthy isn't close to Penix. Penix averages more yards per attempt on nearly 200 more attempts. Yeah your going to have a higher passing effeciency when you throw 190 less times than another QB and are in less critical situations. Penix's counting stats dwarf McCarthy's.
@@CRMdrifter Sorry have to disagree with you except for volumn McCarthy is as good or better quarterback in every statistic. Bo Nix has the same volume and is better in every other statistical measure. Jayden Daniels is in between in volumn and it far ahead in every other statistical measure. Penix is good, but he isn’t close to being another Joe Burrow.
@@matthewhuszarik4173 I don't believe he's as good as Joe Burrow in 2019 but I do think Penix is the best QB in the country. 65% of Bo Nix's yards are from YAC and Penix dwarfs him in air yards. 18 of Jayden Daniel's total touchdowns came against Army, Georgia state, and Grambling state. One guy is a compiler and the other guy is heavily reliant on the skill positions around him. Mccarthy on the other hand is a great leader and winner but I don't think he's thrown for 300 yards this season. Penix clears.
People are underestimating Washingtons defense because they are statistically bad due to performances early in the season. They are a clutch D with a lot of playmakers. They just contained both Oregon and Texas's offenses and have faced Bo Nix, Caleb Williams, and Cam Ward. And they've always made the plays necessary.
The difference being that Texas, USC and Oregon don't rely on pounding/running the football. Washington will have to line up man-to-man on the dline and attempt to stop UoM's run game. On the other side of the ball, UoM's D uses a lot of stunts and mixed coverages to confuse qb's. Add to that that UoM uses a lot of personnel and substitutions making match-ups a nightmare for opposing offenses.
I don't know what game you were watching, but Washington just gave up 498 yards to Texas while allowing over 7 yards per play.
They're last in the nation in first downs allowed, 78th in 3rd down conversion %, have allowed 35 red zone TDs to Michigan's 10, and are 94th in the nation in total defense. Anybody who wants to take a few minutes to look over their season can recognize that this has nothing to do with some bad performances early in the season.
Maybe that's the PAC-12 version of "containment", but good luck to them with that defense in the B1G.
That is actually a great point Texas was one of the best offense in the country and Washington did a pretty nice job
@@CTA2AD They gave up 498 yards and over 7 yards per play. If that's a pretty nice job, Washington might as well stay home on Monday.
@@igotnukes6011 I watched the game where Washington only gave up 31 points to a team that had just scored 49 and 57 the two games prior and 7 of those points came from a muffed punt. They also forced 2 fumbles and got 2 sacks against a great O line compared to Texas's 0. The 2nd game I'm a row where they've done their job against a high powered offense. Both Oregon and Texas are also superior on offense compared to Michigan. They are better than the statistics show because they've hade their 2 best games in the last 2 weeks of the season. Not to mention the fact that it's a little harder to have good defensive stats when you don't get to play a putrid big ten offense every week.

It’s going to come down to this: can Washington stop Michigan’s run game? That’s it. If they can’t, they lose no matter what else happens.
They only have to stop them enough. The bigger question is will Washington’s defense be able to get off the field? The answer is very probably no. Michigan might score on their first 7 possessions.
Washington is the worst defense that Michigan has faced all season.
@@JohnLougheed-d8i lol you are in for a surprise
It's Washington that is going to carve up your NFL secondary with their average Pac12 receivers. What a dumb comment.
Great analysis in my opinion. Now Ryan Day needs to humble himself and copy Jim Harbaugh.
Make the opposing Quarterback "uncomfortable?" Sounds like something his Klatt's son, Colin Cowherd would say.
Im a lil worried about Michigan acting like they already won and everybody picking them. I hope im wrong cuz i love Michigan with all my soul.
if you think they (the actaul team) thinks that you don't know michigan at all
I don't think the team actually thinks this. Even during their Rose Bowl post games, they all mentioned that the job isn't done yet. They've become great at blocking out the noise this year also.
I’m hearing Washington’s offense will score at will in Michigan and Michigan has no passing attack and won’t keep up with Washington.
You guys are right. I don't like all the pundits that picked Alabama now picking Michigan
@@thebluefusreally gonna hurt your souls when 3 years of games are vacated because your program sold its soul.
Milroe had 16 passes. They got pressure 12 times. 6 sacks. Penix passed 38 times. Texas got 16 pressures. Texas got 1 sack.
Michigan pressured Milroe on 75% of his dropbacks, sacking him on 38% of dropbacks.
Texas got pressure on about 40% of his dropbacks, sacking him on less than 5%.
Washington has a better offensive line than Alabama, even if it may be inflated against weak Pac-12 defenses. The question is: can Penix deal with pressure up the middle as well as he deals with pressure from the sides. If he can step into a clean pocket, Michigan will be vulnerable. But if they get him moving side-to-side, those routes get shallower and shallower. The game gets longer. Advantage Michigan.
Hope we get this one.
Actually, Texas had zero sacks against Washington.
If Harbaugh leaves I hope they make Minter the head coach.
Minter would probably go back to the NFL with Harbaugh.
Michigan doesn’t need to completely shut down Washington’s offense. They will keep Washington in the mid 20s. Meanwhile Michigan’s offense will have a big day against Washington’s porous defense. Which is a big mismatch! That few people are talking about. Washington is no Bama on defense. They give up a lot of yards. Michigan will light them up on the ground and in the air! And won’t give the game to Washington like Texas did. The pressure is off of Michigan after beating a very tough Alabama team. You could see it in Harbaugh’s demeanor during the press conference in Houston. Consequently Michigan will play more relaxed and execute better. Michigan 38-24
Michigan Wolverines didn't come this far, just to come this far.. Be WILLING to give 110% each play, start fast, and finish strong. GO BLUE!!
On paper, Washington’s defense is underwhelming. But you have to remember who they are playing. Washington played Bo Nix twice, Caleb Williams, Quinn Ewers, and Cam Ward, all NFL QBs. Michigan played awful B1G offenses all year, with the best QBs being Tagovailoa and McChord. The defensive number are heavily skewed in Michigan’s favor, and are very misleading.
Don't try to cover up for UW defense stinks
Yeah, Michigan hasn't played anyone. Tuck coming!!!
U right after they beat UW they still wouldn't have played nobody
We just saw Michigan's defense hold Milroe to under 120 yards.
you dont want to be making the argument that milroe is on the same level as a passer as penix jr@@K0rium
JJ needs to get them rest & buy the 〽🏈💪 defense time.
Why is everyone talking about how Michigan has to stop Penix who has never faced a defense like ours. They should be asking how can they beat Michigan. They are afterall the favorite. Did we not just eat Bama’s line for lunch? Lol The only reason the Washington offense seems so elite is because the PAC 12 has abysmal defenses. Just wait until they play Michigan. They’re going to eat their polynesian line like peeled pineapple!! 😡
What's the bear offense Michigan has face all year? Certainly not one as good as Washington's, those big ten offenses are atrocious.
I certainly hope they can’t!!!
Go Huskies!!!
Oh no, JK picked us to win.
We are in trouble
Question is, Can Washington’s offense over power Michigans defense?
Washington 30 Michigan 27!
Washington will prove that they are the number 1 team in the country and get the win. I really think Washington will win by a couple touchdowns
No
Michigan TOP 35+ minutes.
Michigan has to score. Penix has to be taken off of his spot in the pocket but Washington is too talented to not score. JJ has to make plays in the air consistently to take pressure off of the running game and defense
This is a bad analysis. Michigan is going to run the ball down Washington's throats. It's how they beat Penn State, it's how they beat Ohio State. Penix can't score if he isn't on the field. 9 minute drives that force a 90th ranked defense and 115th ranked run defense to stay on the field is going to be unbearable for Washington. It's going to throw Penix rhythm off and make it very difficult for them to get anything going.
Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant.
Stealing the other teams playbook and sending one of their Coaches to the other teams sideline in disguise might help. Oh wait....
If michigans offense controls the football and keeps penix off the field they’ll be better off
I predict a Michigan win.
As a Michigan fan, Michael Penix alone makes me lose sleep lol. You give him even half a second longer and he’ll torch you. UM has better DB’s than Texas, yes, but from what I saw, a lot of Penix’s best throws were completed to guys who Texas had great coverage on and he just put it in the perfect spot. Michigan will have to sack Penix at LEAST 5 or 6 times probably. Cause if Michigan has to win by simply outscoring, I don’t think they’ll win. We gotta get to him often and control the clock with the run game and keep him on the sideline.
You must think Texas is a slow, small defense. Most of their players are from Texas and fast! Penix was making throws with CB right next to WR! These are the kind of throws, he makers regularly! These throws can't be defended!
@@arronfrazier7873look at Texas stats compared to Michigan. Washington is one dimension and when Penix doesn't have time to throw Washington is dead in the water. Michigan can beat you multiple ways like Joel has already mentioned.
A lot of talk, but the stats for Michigan don't lie, look them up lol
@@arronfrazier7873 Texas lost to a similar but less powered offensive attack from OU. Let's not act like Texas' 70th something ranked pass defense is anything to brag about.
All those throws you mentioned, the pocket was clean. Michigan's DL will close the pocket pretty quick.
The Baltimore Ravens defense will turn Washington’s offense into a nightmare , penix will get exploited
Nov 2020. Penix was the starting QB at Indiana. This was his line against Michigan in albeit an awful Covid year for the Block M.
Michael Penix Jr., 30/50 for 342 YDS, 3 TD, 0 INT
3 years ago. He’s not easy to 🛑. Maybe M can take the ball away. 2 interceptions is my prediction.
Michigan can not match Washington in scoring so they have to put pressure on the quarterback.
Washington is ranked #94 in total defense. They gave up 30+ plus in six of fourteen games. Michigan is favored by 12.5 points over Washington in S&P + ratings. Washington is excellent on offense but they are facing the #1 defense in America. Michigan is hungry and motivated. Michigan 45-35. Btw, Washington fans are more courteous than OSU, MSU, and Bama fans. Welcome to Big Ten Huskies, hope Michigan destroys you every year in football lol.
Tuck coming
@@slapshot1xtuck deez 🥜
@@slapshot1xtuck came and went ☠️
this may bore the crowd but UM is going to run run run run and WA is NOT going to get the ball very frequently. UM D is going to be breathing down WA QB neck and make his compleation rate go to 45% . WA D is going to be exhausted by the end of the 3rd qtr and thats when UM is going to stack up points.
Nope guarantee that's not happening every team has tried this, this is a lazy narrative shows me you just parrot the same thing every team's fan base says.
It will be a close game if anything going down to the last possession.
You aren't good at this
Good luck, huskies! GO BLUE 〽️
Im a UW fan, but if they play like they played ASU, its a wrap.
That's a long time ago way to cherry pick the game the whole team had the flu and was in poor weather conditions.
Ohio state only had the ball 3 times in the second half vs Michigan if we can do that to WASH Michigan wins
Isn’t Michigan built to beat Ohio State? Doesn’t Washington’s offense look a lot like Ohio State’s offense? Isn’t Washington the perfect matchup for Michigan?
