I love the range of creativity, risk's they took on odd concepts, yet a sorta simplicity that focuses directly on gameplay mechanics & modes. This era- as well as the PS3/360 era, is such a great era in gaming. I hope we can utilize our current capabilities yet get in touch with those aspects that made the PS2/360 era's so good & enjoyable. It should show us that it's not just about GRAPHICS/Reflections. No. If you can create satisfying movement, physics effects, particle effects, responsive parts of the environment, a detailed environment that makes you want to explore it, engage it, etc. That stuff is so important. Not just "who can make the largest game world, or game with the best Graphics." Art style, design, vibe, aesthetic is so important that you don't need top notch graphics to greatly appreciate and enjoy playing that game. That's why we are seeing such a resurgence of players who have gone back to playing older games because they realize the aspects of gaming that they care about and are unhappy with most modern games. So hopefully gaming will enter a new era. That mixes in aspects of the older era's.
We still get all of that, but from indie developers. AAA titles will never give you this kind of experience ever again. But Indie games? Go play any indie game and it's sure to give you a unique experience, even today

Oh boy, this is going to be a lengthy series that will provide a large number of videos, especially if you count japanese exclusive games like the Another Century Episode games or Macross. Even if you stick to western releases only, I can think of Crimson Tears, Urban Reign, Death by Degrees, Gradius V, Grandia 3, Shinobi & kunoichi... Maybe even the red star. IIRC, there was a PSP port of that one but it was digital only and you can't buy a legit copy anymore Also, interesting choice to control only 1 character during the Silmeria segments.
I remember the early _The Getaway_ marketing; Initially, they intended every building to have an interior, said that if you damaged buildings or street fixtures, city workers would be later seen repairing them, all the in-game cut scenes were originally shot live action (seen on early demo discs) _and_ it was originally supposed to be on PS1! I was so excited when it finally came out, though I'd be lying if I said it played the way I wanted! Shame we never got a PS4 sequel/remaster/remake
Playstation 2 will always be my favourite game console, mainly because of the very diverse library of so many games... You should try Shinobido Way of the Ninja, it will not disappoint you, you should give it a try definitely... ✌️☯️
Blood will tell is one of the more expensive games that are on the market now it's interesting to say the least I owned it long before it got expensive thanks for sharing the memories♡
No mention of Chaos Legion? Is it because technically it came to PC before the Steam community went full swing? Nice shout out to Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria though. That one is especially a school day nostalgia.
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is the game I remember playing when I was younger. I forgot the name of it and thankfully, your video had it. Thank you :D
More games to emulate at 4K/60 (some of them) and widescreen on my TV! For those collectors out there, good luck. Some of these go pretty high in price. I no longer have the kind of space to collect, so I only have a few physical which I rip and play emulated with all the benefits in my gaming PC connected to my 60" TV. De-interlaced and in 4K or above internal resolution, games look great!
The music in the background sounds like Musashi Samurai legend. I just started the video so idk if I’ll see it on this list. But that’s one of my favourite hidden gem games of all time.

IIRC, there was a PSP port of that one but it was digital only and you can't buy a legit copy anymore
Also, interesting choice to control only 1 character during the Silmeria segments.
I love your videos and you bring to light so many hidden gems... Keep it up bro
Resident Evil 4 on the ps2 is a master piece also love Valkyrie profile ❤
Was better on the gamecube 😅
I'm probably the only one that preferred Valkyrie Profile 2 over the first one
My favourite console, and I haven't even heard of these games except for Valkyrie 2 and The Getaway (both good!). Keep digging up these gems for us :)
Thanks Ernest! Plenty more on the way 🙂
No mention of Chaos Legion? Is it because technically it came to PC before the Steam community went full swing?
Nice shout out to Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria though. That one is especially a school day nostalgia.
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter is the game I remember playing when I was younger. I forgot the name of it and thankfully, your video had it. Thank you :D
Glad the video helped out!
I'd kill to see Gauntlet Dark legacy, shadow hearts and xenosage trilogy on modern consoles
I’ll second this!
The PS2 will forever be ingrained in my memory as the first console to get me into video games.
Great video! Haven’t heard of any of these before.
Thanks for watching!
Valkyrie Profile 2 Silmeria is an amazing game
Omg 😭 i finally find the game that makes me wonder for years what the title is. Thank you!
Blood Will Tell seems like it's just a rolling dodge away from being classed as a souls like predating the genre. I'll check it out thanks!
De-interlaced and in 4K or above internal resolution, games look great!
it's 5pm and raining here today in my place, this video is a notalgia punch to my gut
Thanks for watching Blink, hope the weather clears up!
The music in the background sounds like Musashi Samurai legend. I just started the video so idk if I’ll see it on this list. But that’s one of my favourite hidden gem games of all time.
Samurai western hell yea. And the music playing is Musashi Samurai Legend "New Hope - Enter the Forest"
Good ear! 😅
Man, I've been trying to find Twin Caliber FOR YEARS, like, since 2008 but I couldn't remember the game's name, at least until now.
Glad the video was helpful!
@@thatvideogamesshow Gotta tell ya that they ALL are, you always keep increasing my backlog lmao
Samurai Western runs at 60fps on PS2, so good
You got to remember there was a time when it wasnt guaranteed there was just going to be another console that would just remake or make available all previous generations games. And no internet connectivity and eshops... things are incredibly different now.
The Getaway was one of my favorite PS2 action games, along with Max Payne.
Definitely need to make another one of these. KoF XI needs a mention lol
great song choice (Musashi Samurai Legend - A New Hope) 👌👌
The Getaway and it's sequel were a blast to play. We need a remaster of the original, and a sequel. If only the planned PS3 sequel didn't get cancelled....
Mad Maestro! was a rhythm game based around, yup, classical music, an underserved genre if ever there was one.
Dude, I love the Mushashi OST in the background, you're a real man! :D
It's so good!
@@thatvideogamesshow I totally agree! I play parts of the OST when I'm doing 1 hour car drives and it's insanely fun! :D Maybe you wanna give that a try, it's insanely fun! :D I really like the shop theme and mystical princess the industrial version.
Great video & awesome selection of games that should be looked at or even added to modern consoles. My brother owned the Getaway on PS2 years ago & that is a cool game, also huge congrats on hitting 100K subs, well deserved...!
Thanks PSX that means a lot 🙂
I would love to get into Shadow Hearts but all of them are very pricey. Thanks for the video.
Valkirie Profile 2 looked beautiful in the PS2, even better that many PS3 games in its firts years, such a shame I wasn't able to finish it as a kid.
mana khemia series, monster rancher 3 & 4, breath of fire IV and suikoden 2 won my heart. ps2 the best!
Congrats man for the 100k! You totally earn and deserve it, and WAY more actually! Keep it up bro 🙌
Thanks mate!
Raging Blades looks pretty fun! Might have to add it to my list of games to buy as I try to finish up my retro game collection. Valkyrie Profile 2 I've only played a time or two. Wasn't too into it.
God hand, Onimusha DOR, Dark cloud 1&2,... best era too many good games
silmeria had great gameplay and amazing soundtracks.
