- The Philippines almost had their 3rd Miss Universe Crown when Miriam Quiambao placed second at the 48th edition of the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant held at Trinidad and Tobago.
Quiambao was one of the strongest and most visible contenders for the crown. She consistently placed second during the pageant's preliminaries and bested a composite score of 9.52, just trailing behind the score of Sonia Raciti, the South African candidate. At the semifinals, she once again placed second overall in the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, racking up scores as high as 9.32 and 9.42 respectively. It was Spain's candidate, Diana Nogueira that dominated the semifinals with a marginal lead over Quiambao of 9.33 for the swimsuit event and 9.45 for the evening gown competition.
During the preliminary round of the evening gown competition, Quiambao slipped and fell on stage. As she walked, the heel of one of her shoes got caught in the trail of her evening gown and she slipped on the floor. Despite this incident she collected herself, regained composure, walked graciously, finished her walk, and drew applause from the audience. At the finals, Quiambao referred to the incident during an interview portion. She said "she felt she represented those women who have fallen both on and off the stage" and hopes to be "an example to the rest of the women in the world".
Early at the competition she received the Clairol Herbal Essences Style Award, the only Asian candidate at the pageant to do so. She was called as one of the final three delegates, alongside Misses Botswana and Spain. Quiambao faltered during the final question, which tackled the debate of whether a Miss Universe should continue her reign even if she gets pregnant. Spain's Diana Nogueira placed as 2nd Runner-Up. It all came down to Philippines' Quiambao and Botswana's Mpule Kwelagobe, and in the end, Quiambao placed as 1st Runner-Up, with Kwelagobe winning the Miss Universe title.

Ok ure entitled to ur own opinion mga maams but if i were pia and i was reading this, id be damn feel betrayed, by my own miss u batchmates and aswell as to my fellowmen. She had enough negativity thrown at her

classy, sophisticated, elegance and a scene stealer, i mean look at her moves, shes a queen in motion. her stage presence is oozing with glamour and prestige. she could have been the 3rd MU from the Philippines and janine tugonon as the 4th MU for the Phils, but fate is in the hands of some
biased judges while happiness is in those bitter individual who dont want the Phil to win...

This is actually the year that the philippines got their 3rd crown if she did not choked in final Q and A. She got nervous. All the judges eyes is on her but she failed with her answer and turned out that botswana gave a better answer. Even the audience are rooting for her.

OMG, Ms. Miriam Quiambao was truely a contender for MU in her year. She had the body proportions of a fashion model. Her beautifully carved facial features was very striking and is a represantative of the Philippine native beauty. And what a graceful and effortless walk!

i disagree with the notes the uploader wrote. Mirian did not falter in answering the final question. she gave a very clear and correct answer. i strongly believe that she gave the best realistic answer. bostwana however, gave a better sounding answer but she flat out said that being pregnant is a celebration of femininity and that is enough reason for her to continue her reign. now where is the logic there? what about the safety of an unborn child? not a very good answer for me.

wow!Miriam is beautiful in her own way..as cliche as it is, "Beauty will always be on the eye of the beholder."..She is for me, a classic Filipina. The skin, brown, hair is black, eyes almost almond shape...not too broad forehead, nor that big bosomed.
Miss Philippines actually had this title won BUT she flubbed the last question badly. Miss Botswana aced it and took the crown.
