  • Al Coker at the Texas Skateboard Museum spent some time setting up a Dan Wilkes reissue skateboard from the 80s to add to his collection. He showed us a huge problem that he often runs into with this old school setup.

    One cool grandfather. The holes got smaller because doing nose and tail slides you would grind up the mounting hardware then they were a pain to get off. Good vid guys.

      And doing nose slides the wheels would hit the rail or curb before the base of trucks or deck so NO sliders just sticky bails so that's also why they changed the holes, also PEOPLE were complaining about breaking the base plates right there at the 2 holes so indy changed the design.

      Gosk8now! ! small holes dont compare to 80s hole patterns thats why i only buy powell boards they come with 80s hole patterns on there reissue boards but i will compromise with a 87 reissue of the Lake Guts Skates skateboard it comes with modern hole patterns but the board still looks like the OG Lake Guts Skates Skateboard and i might re drill the holes so i can put oldschool trucks on it like it should have

    i remember the task of putting loose ball barings in our wheels on our Val Surf bananna boards we even gripped our plastic bananna boards i found the plastic grooves in the board were not grippy enough then i got a white 1985 Lester Kasai Clown board my first pro board for $14.95 at off the wall skate shop in 1987

    Don't know if they got any better, but Gullwings had cheap kingpins back in the day. Switched to Indy/Thunders and never looked back. Then put grindking kingpins in the Indys. Golden Ponyboy. 🤙

    I have (purchased in 2013 online NEW) a Tommy Guerrero Iron Gate (blue stain). Just at the rear, on front of the back truck says MCMLXXXIX (1989). Is this the issue/press year?

    • @GeezerSkateCo
      @GeezerSkateCo  2 года назад

      Hi Daniel, is this deck from the reissue series or a NOS one? Either way, the date stamped on it indicates the year it was issued. For the reissues, I believe they all have the year they were reissued stamped on, to avoid confusion with the originals, but I could be wrong about that. Unfortunately I don't have one to verify currently.

    Hi mate, im doing a set-up of a Jeff Kendall pro series 86 and was recently given a pair of powell peralta bombers which seem huge like 66mm or i have a pair of original alva (not sure of name but are a little smaller at about 60mm and am wondering which would be more authentic for time period ,?also i was wondering too ,i have a Danny way H-street blackhole model and was wondering what would be the size of wheel back in about 90-91 just before we went with tiny wheels or would it have been the small wheels ? As a kid i had many nice boards but dream of getting a sims Stabb again i had one with gullwings bullets and clear grip ..

    • @GeezerSkateCo
      @GeezerSkateCo  4 года назад

      Hi Matthew, thanks for checking out our video and your questions!
      For our personal preference, 60mm is the perfect wheel size! 66mm is way too big, though if you're doing a lot of ramp riding, that might be nice.
      For a little more authentic wheel choice, try a 63mm.
      1990-91, wheel sizes were mostly in the high-50s (56-59mm) and low 60s (60-63mm). You can't go wrong with 57mm or 60mm.
      A Sims Staab would be sick with the setup you described! Let us know if you get that!

    • @matthewcody1757
      @matthewcody1757 4 года назад

      Geezer Skate Co. Yeah would kill for that Stabb again even as a reissue, but alas i dont think i will ever own one again as they go for over a $1000 here in Australia, yeah i went the Alvas ,which are 59-60mm's as those Powell Bombers are huge at 66mm , they are a strange set of wheels and randomly came across them .thx for reply .

    Ever gonna use them skateboards on the wall ? I've 41 boards(different sizes & shapes,from17 & a half inches to 46 longboards,2 of my collection are wide 80's style that's making comebacks. I use all as I could and can maybe 2 or 3 or more a day. Sessions from half an hour to 2 hours & once maybe twice a day or more maybe.
