Just did my first direct heat chicken cook on Sunday - enough for left overs for chicken tacos last night (Taco Tuesday). Easily the best chicken I've ever made - though I didn't mop it. It was a chilly 37F outside, and didn't want to lift the lid too much. ...and really, this didn't need the mop. Though, I can't wait to mop the next batch.
Nice man. Watching your vids makes me wanna try direct fire cooking. Trying to figure out how to do this woth my weber 26. Can you tell me what is the distance from the fire grate to the cooking grate?
@@swinebovinebarbecue I did this at the weekend was on the smoker for about 2 hrs but only one chimney and I can’t get my usual charcoal at the moment so used a low grade supermarket charcoal. Heat started to disappear after about 1.5 hrs so just finished in the oven for about 15 mins to get the skin more crisped. Kids loved it deffo doing again.
Hello S&B. 2 questions. Im a Chud box rookie what lump charcoal seems to work best all 4 seasons? Second, do you just throw away the left over mop sauce?
I use jealous devil lump charcoal. Love it. I either save the mop sauce if I’m going to cook again within a week or strain it and reduce on the stove and use it as a sauce
Awesome cook. Love the things you do on the Chud Box!!

Love to hear it! Direct heat produces incredible bbq even without a mop sauce. Especially chicken as the skin is incredible
@@swinebovinebarbecue - still hitting the leftovers, and it's phenomenal.
Looks so good! How many inches is charcoal grate from the cooking grate on the chud box?
Around 18 inches

Direct heat halves with mop is the best way to do chicken
Would you recommend powder coat or no powder coat on the Chudbox?
Definitely powder coat. They look incredible and it’ll last a lifetime. Wish I had gotten my new one in powder coat
@@swinebovinebarbecue thanks for the reply! That is enough to sway my decision.
